Anyone know of stores, online(besides E-bay and amazon) or otherwise, which sell old pc games. I'm looking for Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance, but I can't find it for cheap.

Hmm, I dunno about online but your local EBGames (If you have one) has a nice selection of pre-played games.

You could always get a copy from BitTorrent if you wanted to go that way. If I can't find a game I want in any local stores that's what I do.

I don't usually condone online theft of games but I damn well won't drive a hundred klicks just to see if a store in Calgary or Edmonton has what I want.

BT is also good for getting old games that aren't even being produced anymore. Abandonware is really hard to find in the original disc format.

I was going to recommend HOTU, ut it seems they don't have it/were visited by LucasArts lawyers. Which is weird considering all the hoops you have to jump through to make some of these older games to run with modern OS's. Er, good luck!

Well I've tried torrents, but it takes too damn long! Though I am getting desperate so who knows. But please, if you find a site let me know. I'll check out this ebgames I know it manhattan, but the game is pretty old so it might quite the quest to find it.

You're shit out of luck, son. I've been cleaning the attic and just trashed about 50 games from 1986-2002, I think Alliance might've been among them (other swansongs were "Tachyon: The Fringe", "Redneck Rampage", "Klingon Honor Guard" and "Crusader: No Remorse").
Saved "Full Throttle", though. And several friends and family wanted to borrow that, it turned out.

I actually wanted to replay Alliance one last time, if only to try out the newer hi-res ship textures available at xwingalliance.net (and to get to fly the superior YT-2000 again), but I can't take more time from my studies.
We put shit into our heads to keep the shit out of our heads.

Those hi-res models from Xwingalliance.net were pretty good.

I never really liked Tachyon, and Redneck Rampage was too redneck for my taste. Although the ability to "take a quick pee" cracked me up. I was just thinking about Full Throttle a few days ago and how I wanted to actually finish it, I never got farther than the gorge jump before I got tired of it.

Torrents take a while if there aren't many seeders around. But it's still worth it in my opinion to take the time to wait for a day or two than to wait like a week or two for the game to come in the mail. It's free, did I forget to mention that?

I don't want to be a wet blanket and I'm not a mod so maybe I'm out of my place here, but discussion of torrents consitutes dangerous waters here and just thought I might note:

Is it piracy if the show/music/movie/game you want isn't available by conventional means? ie: retail outlet or e-bay.

I'm gunna shut up now before I get into trouble.

Yes.

(Simply because 'not available' != 'no copyright', unless those rights are officially waved by their holders.)

I'm not sure if it helps but Amazon.co.uk has it for about 4 on "new & used" 7.50 if you want it new. link
With a bit of luck the retailer might post overseas to wherever you are, I can't see it costing much more that 10 total (about $20 I think.)

Links are no good, yes.

(copyright is broken fight the power to the ramparts Creative Commons Copyleft oh boy oh boy mochachino)

Full Throttle has yet to be equaled.

Yeah, I was bumed out when they axed the sequel.

That could have been great. Shame the original was so short, I can complete the whole thing in about 90 mins, if that.

Thanks Reverend but I think I'll just give up. I'll just use this as a reminder to never let good games fall underneath my radar.

It happened on your watch, you will take full responsibility for losing this game and apologize to lord Vader.

Vader can kiss my ass.

Just got dispatch from the ISD Executor; Vader is now crying, after sensing that remark. I cannot believe it, you're actually in a worse mess now than when you started. I just don't understand the inner workings of you meatbags.

Mmm...meat.

So I tried to find a pre-played Xbox today at both EBGames locations here, turns out there are none available, which is wierd considering it is now obsolete. When I went down there earlier today they said they had two and I had them reserve one, but when I went to pick it up it turned out to be a used Xbox360. They mislabeled the damn box. I considered just paying the $360 for a 360, but I decided it would be a waste of money considering the still vast library of original Xbox games available. Oh well, I'll try a few more places tomarrow.
