And, if this site were to vanish suddenly one day, how would you find out why or what happened, get in touch with people - if you actually wanted to, of course!

I’m not on Facebook. I am on Twitter, for now, and Bluesky (for which I have invite codes) and Mastodon.

On one or more of the above, I’m linked in with the following:

Snay
Liam
Frank
Chris (Siegfried)
Stephen (Omega)
Simon (Sol System)
Bernd

… not a full list, that’s off the top of my head. Also, Krenny - tried DMing you but it says your inbox is full…

Connected to Siegfried on FB, Fabrux on FB & IG. I occasionally see some second-orders throughbthem, but beyond that...

I was thinking about Jay The Obscure a little bit ago because I'm now in what was his general area & was headed out to his more specific area at the time.

I still exist. Pretty much only have an outside connection to anyone from here through Facebook.

Geez, long forgot we even had that capacity. Went and cleared out some space.

I’m still here, and plan to be here until Flare goes offline, or until I die, whichever comes first. TBH, though, I tend to post on the TrekBBS far more than here, but if I ever come across something really cool, I’ll be posting it here first.

And although I have Shik’s email address, I have zero contact info for anyone else here.

I’m here. Always here…. Always watching…

Almost always silent as well.

Just another lurker, waiting to pounce.

I'm still here.
Longtime reader, almost never poster.
I check in every few weeks to read whatever posts interest me (but without logging in).
If Flare went down, I'd probably increase my reading of posts on TrekBBS.

Same.

Way back when, I'd "make my rounds", hobby-wise. Sometimes I still do, and when I do I still hit the same places I did years ago. Flare is always high on the list, if not first. I sometimes remember to swing by TrekBBS but, frankly, I often forget it.

As for contact, I can find Lee on Twitter or go hit up Phasers.net but that's about it.

I don’t see why, I’ve not really updated it since before ST ‘09. I should just let it die: it needs a major site redesign, content update and upgrade to some sort of auto-generating website software. And I don’t have the time or the know-how to do that.

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

Yeah, that's what's been keeping me from making my own site again. That, & time. Been thinking about breaking it up onto a Tumblr, though.

I pop in every now and then, but mostly I'm on Facebook, Twitter, various Discords.

My habits have changed. I keep thinking of this place and thus keep popping back but...

Is this place going to close? That would be sad. Many fond memories from here.

Do we have a Facebook I could join? Edit: apparently I'm already signed up there. I really need to dust things off more.

It's perfect just as it is. Static sites are the new hip thing, you know. And as I've said, I'll take it if you don't want it.

As for Flare, I've long feared the moment all the knowledge and history here disappear. Hell, it was useful not long ago regarding the "War Galaxy".

Still here but unless there's Lower Decks or SNW's I guess I don't have much to post about. I miss the heydays of the 90s and early 00s when TNG, DS9, and VOY along with the movies going strong.

And Mucus moves into second place after Krenim for "Lowest User Number" in the thread. (Charles, for reference, is #9.)

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Looks like the only people with lower numbers that Charles are Altair, Baloo, and Bernd, who haven't been here since 2008, 2010, and 2020, respectively.

Posted by Charles Capps (Member # 9) on :

The numbers are an artifact of the early UBB versions storing user records as files named according to the selected login names. Those were converted into numeric records without regard to regdates.

Also, given my regdate is March 12, 1999, this place is an utterly terrifying 25 years old.

Within the next weekish I'm going to be sending out an email to everyone (that hasn't opted out) inviting them back to say hi. First there's some other work to be done, like making this place reasonably browsable on phones.

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

I have no problem browsing it. Chrome & Brave, Android 10, on a Huawei Mate 20X.

I love Flare and will always check the site out, but I would also love for it to have a massive update.

Same at least until some nitwit -- usually me -- posts some frame-breaking megapic, but that's most board software.

That makes me feel better about 743 from November 2001.

"22 *years* ... would they even recognize me?"

We missed the 25th Anniversary? Or am I recalling that this was a sort of second generation of the board?

Hey, on the bright side, it should be well nigh unhackable since I'm pretty sure that means it was programmed in punch cards and running on a curiously snappy PDP-1. ;-)

(Still, backups. I'd even host a mirror.)

Third or fourth, even? I would be inclined to count from the old UP board, which I started lurking on in the latter half of 1997. Not sure how old it was at that point. Probably no more than a year, if that?

I actually found a version of that saved on my hard drive recently, but I was too lazy to go find it again before posting.

Same, but taking it relatively easy compared to before. My eldest is now only a few years off the age I was when I first discovered the original incarnation of Flare, so am spending more time at home.
