Note that I got this through browsing the toxin that is the forums from the "Satan's Toy Bag" thread, but I thought this deserved a mention in its own section.

I read "nuclear".
Why was it necessary to mention that the guy was an eagle scout? What possible affairs could an Eagle Scout and a convicted drug abuser share???
I would've been less surprised if the man had been shot by two newly-graduated boy-scout teenagers, those kids can sound pretty brainwashed sometimes. "Must protect my family, my country and the corps*, to the best of my abilities, in the name of the Lord!!", or somesuch.
*At least in Sweden the scout organization is called a corps.

Those are the kind of people that need to be forcibly removed from the gene pool, just take a big pair of garden shears to their nads, problem solved.
Question from the ignorant Englishman - what the hell's an Eagle Scout?

Yes, because if there's one lesson we can learn from the twentieth century, it's that eugenics is a good idea.
And I think an Eagle Scout is the US equivilent of a Venture Scout.

I don't know what a Venture Scout is, but an Eagle Scout is the highest... thing... you can get in the Boy Scouts.

What the hell is a scout? Do they even exist anymore? I haven't heard about or seen a scout (boy or girl) here for years.

It's an age thing, rather than a rank thing. You have Venture scouts at the top (over 13, I believe). Then you have scouts, and then beavers (yes, I know) at the bottom.

Re: Eagle Scout -- It's the highest rank you can earn as a Boy Scout. The ranks go: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. Promotion through the ranks is based on age, merit badges, community service, etc. Generally, you earn your Tenderfoot around 6th/7th grade and work towards the Eagle at around 11th/12th grade. At least, this is how it worked when I was in the scouts. I doubt it's changed, but it might have.
Re: The Article -- It's worth mentioning that the suspect is an Eagle Scout since scouting in the US (Cubs, Girls, and Boys, at least) is pretty pro-religion. Most troops are sponsored by churches or other religious institutions, and the oaths, pledges, rules, etc., all contain religious elements. Hence, you see the Boy Scouts in the news facing lawsuits for kicking out gay and atheist memebers. But that's another thread altogether.

Five legions of my fighting Eagle Scouts? Less than impressive.
I am the only male within a certain age range in my immediate family (in a geographic, rather than genetic, sense) who didn't make it to Eagle Scout.

Now what the fuck did that have to do with anything? He did not believe in god, but that's no suprise, as he was a convicted drug user...

Only without the elaborate song-and-dance sequences at regular intervals. I think. I've noticed that there sre some very long intervals when we chat online. That, and he's changed his publicly-displayed name to Bollywood System.
