terrorists will probably wait until we go to the lowest alert level and strike.
oh well. another meaningless national propaganda rhetoric system goes into play.

I won't get sacred until the U.S. goes to Blonde alert. That guy is a fucking psycho...

This one is a comic I saved from a while ago, but still appropriate:

This reminds me of the story with the shepherd boy and the wolf.
They'll continue with these terror warnings till nobody believes them.

I might as well do the obligatory:
"That's it. Step up to red alert."
"Are you absolutly sure, sir? It does mean changing the bulb."
Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :
Orange Alert?? Does this mean a return to Seventies colours!?! Lots of garish oranges and browns!?!
What about "purple alert! purple alert! " "What's that Holly?" "Well it's more than a blue alert, but not quite a red alert"
Hey did they only use 'blue alert' on Voyager once? in the 37er's? Or again in Basics Part 1?
They never used it again.

I'm personally on Plaid Alert: I currently have my ful bio-protection gear on and my Hello Kitty Ricine detector has a fresh pack of AAA batteries just in case. I'm so scared that I'll go along with whaterver Der Department Of Hemeland Security says. I've also noted all the locations of all the 7-11's in my city (known arab hangouts)and reported my neighbor's suspicous activities. Truly I'm showing my loyalty to Herr Ashcroft's New World Order.

I believe that they missed it out in Basics but used it again in Demon.

The best is still "brown alert".

From what I heard on CNN, many local and state agencies are not doing additional measures in protecting the public. These agencies are confronted by the vagueness of the threats and are constrained by budgetary limits.
There is a belief by some, by some , the raising of the alert level is part of a larger White House plan. Three days ago, Sec of State Powell warned of possible chemical and biological attacks by terrorist cells affliated with Iraq. A day later, the Department of State issued a warning to all embassies which are then to pass the information on to Americans living aboard of possible chemical and biological attack. Subequently, the threat level is raised.
According to the White House, and contrary to the belief by some, this action was prompted by an increase of chattering on the terrorist networks and there is no connection between this event and prior events.

Just watched "Sum of all fears", I hadn't looked at any trailers, I was totally surprised when the Baltimore stadium detonated.
Orange, what's that? DefCon 4?
Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :
I was watching on the news and they were talking on the news with the mayor of my city (Milwaukee) about how to be prepared and what our state is doing. I know the authorities are required to beef up security but, I sincerely doubt the terrorists are going to attack Wisconsin! It's too cold, for one thing, and our crime rate is destroying us for them!
Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :
Nim,
As you might imagine, the Baltimore region prefers the novel "Sum of All Fears" where nukes do not detonate in *our* city.
Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :
I'm trying to remember where the target was in the book, but I'm stumped. Then again, the bomb didn't actually detonate per se, it fizzled.
Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :
I think it went to Orange Alert after that Michael Jackson special!! I had it taped and watched it today... what - a - freak.

Denver.
Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :
Better Denver than Baltimore.
Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :
Denver is apparently quite a nice place, while nothing I saw on Homicide: Life on the Streets made me want to go there. Its status as Birthplace of Snay is just the icing on the cake.
Posted by Kosh (Member # 167) on :
Denver is the easy way into the "Mile High Club".
Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :
John Denver? the 'mile-too-low' club..

And you know this how, Ed?
Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :
When I was in Denver the summer before last, the dog was rather displeased with the hot weather, so he, being the sensible little fellow that he is, decided to spread his legs on the marble floor of the State Legislature foyer and treat his poor crotch to the cool kiss of democracy.
Anyway, this is relevant because of this. Only vaguely, I suppose, but I get the sense it'll clear up Vogon's confusion. (And also, I guess, because dog crotch relates indirectly to sex.)

It's a mile above sea level, without the plane.
On the orange alert, well, I live in the boonies, and even though there are some rather large chemical plants here, they are not doing a lot of business these days, and I don't worry about being bombed or whatever.
My sister is getting some training for her job. She works for FMC in North Carolinia, and the training was in Virginia. I didn't think anything about it till she called last weekend. Her husband is with her, and the group was sight seeing. As she was hanging up, she said they were pulling into Arlington National Cemetary. That's when I realized she was not only close to DC, but in DC at that moment. I started worrying a little more at that point.

I live at sea level -in South Florida. As fucked up as we are I doubt anyone woyld even notice any WMD going off: we have a pretty thick skin for the surreal.

if Bush really wanted to get some terrorists, he would build a new World Trade Center that looked partially finished, even though it was fully operational and armed much better than the original, then set the national alert level to the lowest color.
the terrorists would all be caught in the ensuing trap!
Operation: Ackbar

"Now witness the power of this fully armed and operational World Trade Centre?"
Posted by E. Cartman (Member # 256) on :
No, no, no. The terrorists would use fighter jets to attack the WTC's main reactor and defeat the New Imperialist trap.
