And That's not all. From NefariousMuse.com
"That the meat of my body, or a portion thereof, be used for a human barbeque...my skin, or a portion thereof, be removed and made into leather products...my feet be removed and umbrella strands or other ornamentation be made from them...my eyes be removed, mounted and delivered to the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency..." -from PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk's last will and testament.

What, did they all look at each other during their AGM and say "You know, we're actually starting to be taken seriously and make a difference, how about we pull some insane stunt and set our reputation back ten years or so?"

Those people are just plain weird. I get sick of their whole "Oh it conjures up violent images." It is a city name that has a history.

okaaaaaaay. That's well, silly. Also $15,000 is a bit on the cheap side for changing a towns name.

Yeah but we're talking about it now, aren't you? That was the whole point. Awareness.

Incidentally, what does "Hamburg" really mean? Obviously, the "ham" part has no relation whatsoever to the meaty leg of a swine, but is it related to the vaguely Anglo-Saxon word for "village"? Does the name mean "Village Castle" or perhaps "Village Town"? Or does it have more complex origins?

Dang, this made me want to get the grill out, get some nice unhealthy ground up animal flesh, cook it, and consume it. A thread that made me hungry....
I must write to PETA and thank them to giving me the urge to kill another cow for consumtion.
The one that got me was the Got Beer? slogan.

Craptastic.
This is exactly the kind of thing that'll convert new members.
Give ME the $15,000 and I'll invent a meat-free styrofoam-based meat-replacement product.

A cursory investigation reveals that "ham", meaning a village, comes from Germanic words that also meant "house". So "Hamburg" might be "house-castle".
