We know the Federation constists of over 200 species. But what species are in Starfleet and have been seen on the show? Here's a small list of all the species I can think of:

1.5 Klingon
1 Betazoid
1 Ferengi
many Vulcans
many Bolians
too many Humans

So, if you don't count the non-UFP species (Ferengi's and Klingons), you have only four species left. I musthave missed some here...

To state the obvious,
The Trill for one.
In st:IV we have the species with the long white hair, (the same species as the federation president in st:VI)

A little known one, people from Tiburon. They have ears like lettuce leaves. Dr Sevrin was seen in TOS, and we saw one in Uniform in DS9: "The Ship".

Bear in mind though that you don't have to be in the federation to join Starfleet. (As ever, it's who you know that matters! )

OK, i agree with the UFP-Starfleet relation.
But still, Ferengi's and Klingons aren't conventional Starfleet officers and don't really count as 'Starfleet-aliens'.

Who's the .5 Klingon? The only Klingons we've ever even seen in SF uniform are Worf and B'Elanna, and Worf's the only one who's actually a member of Starfleet.

And you forgot Benzars. And... That guy that Wesley was supposed to insult as part of his Academy entry test in "Coming of Age"; I think it started w/ a 'Z'.

And I'm sure there are other uniformed extras who have been done up as aliens. You might even say that some of the "humans" we've seen are Betazoids, as long as their eyes weren't shown close-up. Or even one of all the other species that look exactly like humans, as evidenced in TOS and early TNG.

I guess they have naval exchange-programs! I remember Riker serving on a BoP for a while. He got smacked around alot.

Didn't they show "Centauris" or "Centaurians" in TOS a few times? I think they had white hair and antennae.

The .5 Klingon is of course Torres. She's half Klingon half-Human, to create intereting plots when they run out of FX-budget

Just a question. Where did the "200 species" figure come from? I thought that the UFP had around 150 planatary governments and colonies in it.

There's also Deltans. (Ilia in TMP)
And we first saw an Andorian in a Starfleet uniform in either Trek IV or VI. He was balding if I remember (to show off the fact that they finally had a budget).

To see more Starfleet aliens, check out the recreation deck scenes aboard the Enterprise in ST:TMP. The Art of Star Trek book has a clear shot of a Saurian in a white jumpsuit. Also, regarding Tellarites, have we ever seen one of them in a Starfleet uniform?
In Star Trek VI, there was a alien crewman with weird feet and in "The Drumhead" a crewman was one quarter Romulan (trying to pass as one quarter Vulcan)

I'm sure they give Jaresh Inyo's race in Encyc II - its its a bovine derived species...

Someone here once also mentioned the name of the race that was the communications officer on the Saratoga in "TVH" and the Federation President in "TUC"

We'll have to work this out properly - see my wish thread somewhere - about having the next TNG having a PROPER Federation council scene - in some huge - but not idiotically huge and CGI'ed like Star Wars: TPM

but a huge circular plus room - lots of blues and yellows... and a splash of red... with all the members of the Federation - so a complete back catalogue - that HAS to include all the races we have seen over the years - I'm sure they could employ us to do the work ;o)

just give us access to scripts/makeup records for the movies/series... We'll give em back complete lists with gaps for unseen races + speculation about previous NON fed members who could now be fed members - The First Federation? The Yondarans? heaps of TOS basically...

plus they'ed have to have 'seats' for non federation ambassadors - Klingons - were we could have a nice Worf tie in...

Romulans - SELAR! (just a thought) or Creetak or Carolyn whats her name - she played Marla Astor in "First Contact" and the "Maid" in a few Voys and the Rom Commander in "The Face Of The Enemy" and the subcommander from "Contagion"

Well, he wasn't Starfleet, but his people are most likely a member of the Federation and thus have at least a few members in Starfleet.

I have a list of known or almost known UFP worlds floating about somewhere, but I'm not sure it would really help in this case.

The Pakleds aren't in the Federation, the Bynars might be, or might not. I lean towards the second. If they had been, it seems unlikely that everyone would have been so totally unfamiliar with them. Also, I doubt a Federation member world would need to hijack a starship in order to use its computer.

Odo and Kira are in the Bajoran Militia (I think it's called this) and Garak was only wearing a Starfleet combadge, but had no rank.

Now that I think of it, there was a Bajoran in SF, Ro Laren.

I said you'd have a chamber with all the federation members - plus EXTRA SEATS at the front (like ST:4) for NON Federation ambassadors...

of course - to bring back old favourites more than a few characters make sense

Garak - lived with the Feds for nigh on Seven years
Kira - is the Bajoran LIASON to the Federation (and probably more after Sisko left)
Talarian - for continuity's sake
Romulan - T'Rul (Martha Hackett) or Carolyn Semour or Senator Vreetak would be a nice presence
Klingon - WORF of course - the Klingon Ambassador to the Federation
Ferengi - we'll either having the Nagus himself - the father of a Starfleet officer or Nog since he is already in Starfleet

Odo for the Dominion - the only trusted founder... and the only founder to coexist with solids peacefully for at least 1000 years.

Tholian and Gorn cause it would be just sooo sooo cool.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but doesn't it make more sense for Worf to be the Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire? After all, I thought Worf was a Federation citizen, not a Klingon citizen. I have to watch that episode again.

I had a thought about the Tellarites (the pig guys). Although we have never seen one in a Fleet uniform, the Klingon in the DS9 ep where Sisko dressed up as a Klingon and went to Ti'Gacore (SP?) said there was a Tellarite Conn officer aboard a Starfleet ship he raided. He even called him a pig.

There was an alien named Barash. He's the one who kidnapped Riker to be a companion in "Future Imperfect." He looked a lot like the little grey aliens. Though we don't know what his race was called.

Funny thing is - Barash also created worlds of illusion with his mind.

I reckon a pair of the ambassadors in the council chambers in Star Trek IV were of that Roman planet... Although, I don't think so actually - they didn't have spaceflight capabilities did they - they were of about 1960 Earth time at the time of the episode.

I, myself, wonder about the Iotians from TOS "A Piece of the Action." They were a highly curious and imitative people... and they had McCoy's communicator, with it's "transtator," basis of Treknology.

What could they accomplish in a hundred years? Did the next starship to visit find a fully-functioning Starbase in orbit, and a bunch of guys wearing TOS-style uniforms?

Well, why not? They did manage to translate that book and build an entire planet full of cities in the time between the Horizon and the Enterprise. For all we know, they could have some pretty advanced fabrication technology.
