some serious homosexual vibes from the Borg Queen. Especally during 'Endgame.' Serously! We all got this impression the the Queen was more attracted to the women than men. Have you been getting the same impressions?

Remember First Contact? That's just the way she acts. If you want to think of it as an "attraction" thing, I suppose you'd have to say she's bi.

And, maybe it's just me, but I never even thought about the Borg queen's sexual orientation (nor even that she had one) 'til you brought this up. Why are you even thinking about such things? *L*

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Because it just ain't American, darn it! Such behaviour is an affront to God and plain simple decency! We don't want our kids watching this filth! It could turn them into faggots, or, worse, Democrats!

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Oh, right. Forgot about that... *L*

Posted by MIB (Member # 426) on :

ummmmmmm yeah? ok. whatever. LOL.

Posted by Treknophyle (Member # 509) on :

'sides - her organic genetalia was removed at assimilation - the only thing between her legs now is a scuzzy port.

Posted by MIB (Member # 426) on :

LMAO!

kinda off topic but the borg don't reproduce naturally at all do they???

but they can't go around assimilating forever can they???

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

Well, we've saw a Borg nursery in Q-Who, but never really found out if the babies had been born there or assimilated recently.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

I think it's been decided that those were recently assimilated youngins...but I still think the idea of breeder drones is kind of cool...well not cool...but interesting. Why wouldn't they make use of natural reproduction to increase their numbers?

As for the Borg queen's "sexuality"...here's my twist on it...I've always thought of the Queen as the physical manifestation of the Collective...she's not so much an individual Borg or a separate entity as she is a consciousness within the Collective...she IS the Collective. Her seemingly sexual overtures are a representation of the Collective's attempts to seduce and get into whoever's mind... it's not actual sexuality...

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

Possibly natural reproduction is 'flawed'.
My guess is that cloning is much more efficient (no random chance).

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

Yeah, but would adding clones be "adding distinctiveness," which the Borg seem to crave?

Posted by Matrix (Member # 376) on :

I think they clone the Queen but not drones. They don't really need the Queen its like a well trained group without a leader. That group is trained enough to operate on its own but in the end they still need a leader for further directions.

I doubt the Queen is Bi, homo or hetro for the reason all she has is a head and shoulders. Even the skeleton of that part is also borgified.

Posted by Hunter (Member # 611) on :

Maybe the Queen is some form of contingence plan?
A response to sitauations that normal borg programming/descions can't handle? Of course this sort of clashs with the whole rational for the assimalation of Picard but it might explain why a collective might consider such a plan in the first place.

As for the 'biolgical distinctiveness' why isn't better used? For instance why not use assimilated Klingons and Hirogens as Tactical Drones? Or for that matter why not whip up your own super drone with, for instance, Klingon biological redundencies and strength, Betazed Telepathy etc?

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

Or what about an assimilated shapeshifter?

Posted by Nimrod (Member # 205) on :

Hunter, there were borg klingons in FC and "Unimatrix Zero". I think they use them to their advantage.

S/M is a pretty recurring theme amongst the borg, also. Cutting that off and putting on this, inserting a bolt here and a tube right up there...

About the sexuality of the borg, it's expected of the producers to portray their biggest foe in the series as sexually deviant.
Of course the queen should be slimey, suggestive and dominating, if they'd had a reasonable spokesman for the borg, why people might grow to respect them!

It goes with the whole "we are bad, we are sick and we like it, put all sympathy in the good guys, they are the ideal which we want to destroy but will never succeed".

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

Would be even scarier if the Borg would try things politely, with an adequate spokesman.

"Hello, I am the Borg, could we make an appointment for assimilation? Oh, and BTW, resistance is futile."

It seems like the Borg could need a media training.
Or some well-thought marketing.
"If you get assimilated TODAY, we will give you this FREE cyborg arm as a gift!"

Harry: I read a story once where the female changling was assimilated and forced to take on the form of Kirk in an effort to make the Federation join the Borg...

Nimrod: Where the Klingons in FC in the Engine room/Queen's lair? I thought I saw some there when Data makes a break for it.

Raisinfonnel: What was the name of the story?

Harry: Maybe the Borg should hire a PR firm?
Imangine an ad campaign featruing a bikinied 7 of 9, surronded by male drones, exthorting the joys of the borg? How many assimilies do you think theyd get after 7 of 9 utters "So let me assimilate you" in a low voice?

Of course I've also had visions of the Borg as evangilists. Basiclly sprouting of stuff like "We are the Borg, Is your flesh weak, are you consumed by guilt, do you feel all alone? Then join us in the glory of the collective. Let the revealed Voice of the collective into your life and we will show you the path to perfection. Amen and glory to
the Borg" After that they ask you to send a donation to unimatrix 01 to help spread the word of the Borg

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

The Borg as evangelists. That's WAY scarier than they are now.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

In FC, there was a Klingon Drone on the deflector dish, IIRC. There was also a Cardassian Drone in the movie somewhere. Thought there was a Bolian too...

Posted by Treknophyle (Member # 509) on :

I don't even want to think about that!

Posted by MIB (Member # 426) on :

You know wanna know what I really want to see? An assimilated Gorn. An Assimilated Tholian, and an Assimilated Sheliak. That would be cool.....

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Might be somewhat necessary to actually come up with designs for those species first, don't you think? Well, aside from the Sheliak, though I'm not at all clear on how amorphous blobby things build ships. And an updated (read: non-silly) version of the Gorn.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Well, just make the Gorm costume much more finely mobile, and less rubbery...

Posted by Wes1701E (Member # 212) on :

If the borg queen is bi, that would be the first sexuall oientation other then straight in Star Trek. I say a good step forward.

<-- Libral and Proud of it

So Intendent Kira was straight?

Americans have funny definitions of sexual orientation.

And, unrelated, while I would love to see the Tholians, an assimilated Tholian is, well, silly. Not as silly as an assimilated Sheliak (which is very sill), but still pretty silly.

And, again, I would love to see them pull off a cool, modern version of the Gorn, but I woulnd't put money on them managing it.

Well damn. I forgot about her. It's been a few years since i've seen DS9. I don't remember her actually habving a girlfriend or something to that effect. I'm not sure though...

Not definitions, its our god damn beliefs surrounding it. Someone wears a gay pride shirt and everything is fine. Students get expelled from schools for wearing straight pride shirts. Ugh... thats something for the flameboard tho.

Her and Ezri were just good, Christian friends.

Yes...that's why when they have sex, they do it the missionary way with a double-headed dildo...

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Doesn't everyone?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Simon doesn't. For some hilarious reason related to his mammouth member.

I can't be arsed thinking up a decent joke. Sorry.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

"Mammouth"? Is that like "metaphour"?

Youu really dou have a proublem w/ wourds countaining the letter 'o', doun't youu?

Big gooey looking alien species from, um, early third season TNG. They're pretty reclusive.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Yup. From "The Ensigns Of Command".

They looked remarkably similar to Armus (from "Skin Of Evil"). For slightly obvious reasons.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

A little less oily, I suppose...

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Actually, I thought they looked like the big-boss Cylons, the ones they ditched in favour of having John Colicos ranting and raving. . .

Posted by HappyTarget (Member # 670) on :

The queen will use whatever means necessary to make you either join the collective or rejoin the collective (Data and 7 of 9 respectively). If she thinks that talking in a suggestive manner will make you come over to the borg, she'll use it. I dont think that the borg have sex, why bother when you can transwarp a few dozen cubes over a densly populated planet, transport down a million or so borg dones and assimilate the planet before anyone can say Resistance is FUTILE.
Always wondered why they sent two single cubes to assimilate earth then decided that that tactic didnt work well so looked for other more subtle ways of assimilation. Sheesh! Stupid Borg! Just send in about a dozen cubes, didnt you see how much trouble starfleet had with the single ones?!?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Because they've had a 90% chance of succeeding (both times) with only one cube. They were stopped the first time by a fluke, and the second time by Picard having some previously unmentioned telepathic contact to the Borg.

Two cubes would be inefficient.
