Wait, which one is showing the Nemesis clips? Entertainment Tonight or E! News? Also, when are they showing the clips?

Posted by Praetorian Guard (Member # 499) on :

The clips will be on Entertainment Tonight airing Wednesday (Jan. 9).

And there are already some spoiler snippets on the net. TrekToday/S31 has the goodies. Nothing stunning there - Geordi's eyes still look artificial, and rank pips appear unchanged. Worf is back in his usual uniform and sash, and Riker again hides behind a bush. But behold Lord and Lady of the Rings... Observation Lounge windows appear to be done in greenscreen here, not with a black canvas and pinprick stars, so clearly the VFX budget isn't shoestring. [Smile]

But.. didn't Worf leave Starfleet? And can an Ambassador be in Starfleet?

Posted by Timo (Member # 245) on :

Worf didn't necessarily leave Starfleet. All we know is that he seemed to accept a posting as the UFP ambassador to the Klingon Empire. We've not been given reason to assume that this would require him to resign from Starfleet. Wasn't Picard an ambassador like Tomalak in the fake future of "Future Imperfect", while in Starfleet uniform?

And perhaps Worf never became an ambassador to begin with? After "What We Leave Behind", he might have reconsidered and politely refused. Or discovered that Martok was a devious Romulan spy and slain him in battle, then given the throne of the Empire to Alexander and moved back to serving under Picard. Or perhaps he donated the ambassadorship to his mindwiped brother.

Come on...Deep down didn't we all know they were going to mess that up?

Posted by Ryan McReynolds (Member # 28) on :

I don't think they messed anything up. John Logan rewatched the last season of Deep Space Nine to see what Worf had been up to and how he became an ambassador, according to the reports when he was first announced. Script spoilers indicate that Worf simply wasn't cut out for diplomacy and got back into starship duty, which works for me. It may be a little too convenient for our taste, but it's not like they're just going to leave it unexplained.

Yes, it's not like he just shows up on the Enterprise-E corridor out of nowhere...not like Insurrection.

Hmm. Not even a new Commbadge, or anything. Oh well, they made five and a half original cast films without any significant changes in wardrobe. *pouts* Unless they have new phasers! *perks up* 8)

Personally, I'd like to see the unis stick around as is for awhile. At least for this movie.

Yah...I guess that's what I meant. It's a little too convenient. There may be nothing technically incorrect about it, it's just very convenient.

And yes...it does remind me of Insurrection.

It isn't that Worf not being an ambassador after all is an unworkable or implausible idea. It's just that it was an interesting move for the character. Alas.

We got at least one Trek novel out of the switch, I believe. Plus, I'm guessing he could have held the position for almost three years since the end of DS9, and may even have gotten as sick of the bureaucracy that Martok has. A High Council massacre or two later, and he's back on the Enterprise.

Set watch: The conference lounge set sems to be different. As I recall, in FC we saw that you could ONLY get into it from the two oddly redundant sets of doors on the bridge. Now, there's one exit visible in a location more familiar to the way they had it on the E-D, with a coridor wall behind. It still seems to fit with the bridge decoration motif, though - note the lighted column behind Picard, which I don't think was in the original E-E set. I don't have FC handy to check, though.

Regardless, I'm hoping against hope that this means the E-E bridge has gotten some kind of overhaul to keep at least that part of the ship fresh. I'm not much of a fan of the E-E bridge, and I never liked the modifications they made to it for Insurrection. Can we hope for an improvement in this next movie?

Where hast thou found these screencaps.... [Smile] Are you talking about one of the three at the TrekWeb link above? If so, are you sure that's the conference lounge?

Keep in mind, I've not seen the footage that's being discussed... Sorry [Frown]

Here's the direct link to the caps and teh full article. Spoilers within!

And yes, it's more like the conference room than any other set. I've dug out FC, and while the windows look about the same, the other half of the set looks completely different. Furthermore, you can see that the bridge set (behind everyone being interviewed) has been partly repainted in silver. The Captain's Chair CD-ROM should be able to confirm that.

quote:
[Worf speaks to Picard, standing next to several consoles.]
Worf: "The Romulans live only for conquest."

I knew it - they're just making the Romulans this movie's Klingons... Do people think Romulans live only for conquest - isn't this a line by Kirk about Klingons in "Errand of Mercy"?

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

Worf has *always* said the Romulans live for conquest ... "They claim all that is within their field of vision!" This is nothing new, and is just more of the 'Worf hates the Romulans SOOO much he doesn't give them a single quarter.'

No wonder he made a sucky ambassador...

i can just see it.

Romulan Diplomatic Aide L'Vek: "Jolan Tru. I'd like to introduce Romulan Ambassador Dr'mek, and the Federation Ambassador John R. Williamson. Gentlemen, it's my honor to introduce you to Worf, son of Mogggghhhhkkkkkk"

*Worf jabs mek'leth into L'Vek's throat*

Worf: "You have no honor to introduce anything, Romulan p'tahk!"

So they heard rumors that someone was dying, and they thought it was Picard? I thought all the rumors were that Data was going to die?

He is. [Big Grin]

I heard the Data rumours were false. This sounds like they're to do a Spock with Data.

Maybe Beverly Dies...

in the usual unimaginative Trek death ways...

"Jean-Luc there's something I have to tell you"
"Hang on Beverly! Beverly!?! BEVERLY!?!"
Picard turns and sees Dr. Crusher floating in space - she had stepped out an airlock... Picard shrugs and returns to the action scenes ahead...

Please let it be the boy. Nobody deserves death like him.

Posted by CaptainMike (Member # 709) on :

ive heard a lot how they wanted to have a real hard-hitting villain, like they havent had since wrath of khan. i hope they didnt just reuse the script, complete with data death at the end

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Somehow I doubt Data could be killed by radiation from something in engineering. He's too resilient for that...

ooh.. id love a scene where the Picard-clone captures Riker and Wesley and puts worms in their ears and then takes over the Titan and uses it to attack the Enterprise-E.. and Data dies saving the ship (and Wes vaporizes himself!)

Is it just me, or are all these rumors the exact same ones that were floating around prior to First Contact's release? And then recycled on the rumor sites when it was Insurrection's turn? This confuses me.

Posted by Austin Powers (Member # 250) on :

Kill off Wesley!!!!! I hate that prat.
About the rumors: do with them as you did before First Contact as well as before Insurrection: ignore them!

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Yeah, but this time they're apparently true. This is what confuses me. Has the treatment for Nemesis been more or less complete since TNG moved to film? Am I misremembering old rumors? Are spoiler sites somehow running on FTL servers, with the curious consequence of people being able to access their webpages long before the movies being spoiled have been conceived?

Perhaps there is some sort of temporal anomaly present. Think of AGT. Perhaps someone is trying to mess up the timeline... [Big Grin]
