Here's my weekly post on the new upcoming ep -

This one, I'm looking forward to!

I can't wait to have Seven kick serious 'Rock' Butt !! (Not that I'm a WWF fan anyways)

Here are some shots from the ep.

- Combs

I've only seen part of the trailer .. and getting it from Continuum has been difficult ..

Anyone have the whole story behind this one?

Actually, the ring looks a heck of lot like the Stellar Cartography set from Generations.

Yeah, can't wait for a huge WWF commercial. Although we'll see how it turns out.

Y'know what might make this episode worthwhile? If, instead of fighting, Seven merely assimilates all her opponents. That would be okay... :-)

They obviously don't get sentimental, especially with their space and money constraints.

The Rock is in this episode for five minutes, saith Robert J. Doherty. How come no one realises that doesn't make this a commercial for the WWF?

Oh! And the difference between the violence in "Tsunkatse" and "By Inferno's Light" is...? (Neither Worf nor Seven want to fight, but they sort of have to in order to accomplish something: survival.)

I loved that episode.. one of my favorite DS9 Eps !!

I hope this one does it justice then !!

Yeah, but the fighting in "In Inferno's Light" was a little more essential to the story, and a little better written. Jem"hadar warriors fight the inmates to entertain themselves. It was intresting to see the jem'hadar in thi way, it enhanced both worf's character as well as our understadning of the jem'hadar and the dominion. This voyager epsiode is just a chance to see seven in even more derogitory clothing in a vain attempt to increase Voyager's sagging ratings. DS9 wrote good stories to get more viewers, Voyager has to be sexist.

I really don't think you should be commenting on the writing before it airs. You know only the basic outline of the story based on spoilers, etc. The episode may reveal a more detailed scenario. And is trying to capitalize on the fame of the WWF really such a wrong idea? It's not as if this is going to happen every week. And excuse the pun, but like all other TV, Star Trek is still an enterprise.

Having not seen "Tsunkatse" yet (unless you have special privileges somehow), how can you say this?

And wait... more essential to the story? In "Tsunkatese", this is the story, while that in "By Inferno's Light" was almost a subplot.

Sagging ratings? Not at all. Ratings are equivalent to last year with less coverage over the U.S. That means more people are watching the show per capita. And, again, if you were to do the math for Voyager's ratings compared to DS9's (On fair ground! Meaning same national coverage percentage, multiple viewings in areas, the canceled UPN shwoings which just reduce the overall ratings, etc.), I'm certain the difference would be negiligeable.

Really? If I wanted to, I could call some things on DS9 sexist. But seeing as I like the show, I don't particularly want to try to. And I still don't see how this is a sexist show...

I will wait to see the epsiode. But come on, in yet ANOTHER seven story, she's kidnapped by some alien race and forced to fight in some galactic wredstling match. This is not going to be some great episode on the "human spirit," and its not going to be an integral part of a multi-year story arc like "in Inferno's Light" was a part of the dominion arc.

And I know that trek is an enterprise, and it has to get ratings to make money to survive. I'm just disappointed that Voyager can't write good stories to get ratings, put has to pull out a story like this.

I think Seven's going to kick ass !! Why should I be offended .. she's being portraited as a woman who can defeat a large man !!

If it were Chakotay in there .. why would you feel any different?? - seven can kick his ass too ..

Whining about a little airlock?! They took down the entire Promenade!! That's my favorite place!

That's Jeffrey Combs in the first picture? No!! they've blocked his cuteness!

That's J.G. Hertzler in the first picture. Jeff Combs isn't in those pictures, I don't think...

AndrewR: Yeah, I see that it is a reuse of the DS9 airlocks. I totally love the design of those doors, and while I don't have a problem with reusing sets, I think they should be altered enough that we can't point to a low res picture on the internet and recognize where it came from!

But does anyone else think that the ring (from the third picture way up there) looks like the bottom of the Stellar Cartography set from Generations?

Jeff Combs is the first pic.... He plays the lead Hirogen that forces 7 to fight I think.

J.G. Hertzler is the Hirogen. Combs is the guy who kidnaps all these people and forces them to fight. He's not in the pictures. Besides, Combs doesn't look tall or strong. Hertzler does because he had been cast to play Martok.

I'd say there's no need to think that the Hirogen or the others can really travel across great distances. After all, the gamesters could simply be employing somebody with long-range kidnapping technology to keep the arena manned. Plenty of races have had that sort of tech, the cases most relevant to this episode being VOY "Caretaker" and TOS "Gamesters of Triskelion"...

I liked the ep .. The fight scenes were good for a Voyager episode .. considering they don't exactly employ martial artists all that much.

The first fight was the best ... Grabbed my attention right away.

I found the bonding ( or the beginning of it finally) between Seven and Tuvok long overdue .. and real.

It was good to see Combs and J.G. Hertzler again. I would have like to have see this Hirogen more in the future !! There's a possible arc there.

I'm not so sure that the door there is from DS9. I mean, for one thing, it opens down the middle. Plus, it just doesn't look much like it, aside from being round.

Alshrim! YEAH! There has definately been bonding between Tuvok and Seven before - in the middle of Season 4 especially around the events and just before Year Of Hell - there were some very touching moments between the two... the understand one another...

I was glad to see Chakotay and Seven talking in "Survival Instinct" - THANKYOU Ron Moore! 1 ep and he was in there doing stuff that should have happened years ago.

I just thought - we've never ever really had a Tuvok/Doctor relationship...

"Survival Instinct" was so heavily rewritten, it's rather doubtful Ron Moore actually wrote the Seven/Chakotay scene, especially as the two have had quite a bit of interaction since.

Yeah.. I find that Seven and Tuvok are well suited for other eps together .. they'd make an awesome team...

IMHO, there's not enough of Tuvok !

I liked seeing Jeffery Combs again. I always liked Weyoun as a villian in DS9 and his character in Tsunkatse looked like Weyoun, acted like him, and sounded like him.

The episode itself wasn't that bad either, not great either. An average Voyager episode.
