It seems to me that whenever you see a list of DS9's best and worst eps, you always see the same names. "Whispers," "The Visitor," "Sacrifice of Angels," "Tears of the Prophets," "In the Pale Moonlight;" "Move Along Home," "Meridian," "Who Mourns for Morn," all the usual suspects.

Today I was watching "Visionary," a third-season episode. And I really enjoyed it! So I thought I'd ask if there are any other favourites out there that don't usually come to mind. Did you like "The Muse?" Then say so. Do you wonder why "Tribunal" isn't up there with "Meridian" in the hall of infamy? Then say so too.

"Visionary" was my first experience with a DS9 I actually liked, to be honest (although it was only my third or something, but still...).

I don't know if it qualifies as unsung, but it wasn't on your list. So I'll say "Duet". And I also rather liked the Circle trilogy, what I saw of it anyway. I think I missed the middle part.

Didn't like "The Muse," did like "Tribunal." And "Dogs of War" was great because for once they didn't care about the budget, with the transporter running in the background, extras saying "excuse me" as they walk by, and so on.

I really liked the pilot episode, "Emissary". "The Die is Cast" is one of my all time favourites, too.

"Forgive me if I don't share your euphoria!" (Weyoun to Dukat, Tears of the Prophets)
Dax's Ships of STAR TREK

I also liked the Cardie Rommie attack of the Dominion duo (or trio). I thought it was well thought out and revealed some interesting info. Also Sisko's "Not as singed as THEY're going to get. ENGAGE!" battle. Kick a$$!

"Resolve and thou art free."

Indeed, that was the first episode that featured a full scale battle in Trek (and it looked awesome, too). I also reckon Garak's interrogation of Odo is one of the most memorable moments in DS9 history.

"Sacrifice of Angels" is one of my favorite DS9 episodes. Love the battle scenes in it.

Hobbes: "Maybe if you read more, you'd have a larger vocabulary."

Well, yes, but I believe we're looking for episodes that haven't been hyped up as much among the online community.

"Civil Defense" was a good one. Dukat strolling around Ops while phaser beams lance out everywhere, and he just looks so arrogent. Great stuff.

Exactly. Another one that should be mentioned is "Favour the Bold," which often gets written off as just a prologue to "SofA." There's some good stuff in there, though. . .

Posted by Elim Garak (Member # 14) on :

"Favour the Bold" is much better than "Sacrifice of Angels", IMO.

Another favourite of mine from DS9 that hardly ever gets any credit: "The Darkness and the Light".

Elim Garak: "Oh, it's just Garak. Plain, simple Garak. Now, good day to you, Doctor. I'm so glad to have made such an... interesting new friend today." (DS9: "Past Prologue")

I really liked "Defiant", 'cuz it was a good Defiant ep, and 'cuz Tom Riker's kewl! He just don't seem to give a damn about anything! (except his brother )

I also liked "Captive pursuit" with Tosk, and
"When the shit hits the fan".
No, wait, they scrapped that. Doesn't matter how many scripts I send them, they just keep coming back all torn and wrinkled. Bloody Ingrate's!

I liked the two parter where Sisko, Bashir and Dax went to the Sanctuary Districts in Earth's past. I can't believe i can't remember the name of the eps.

Anyway, classic Trek! It gave us a commentary on social problems with out bashing us over the head with it. By showing us what our future could be, it gave a warning. Contrast this with "Far Beyond the Stars" where all we got was a "look how terrible we used to be even though it has nothing to do with Trek and we can't do anything to change it" thing. Not only that, but it called into question the very reality of the story we've been listening to all these years.

"In the Cards". Best Trek comedy ever. Period.

Aban: You're thinking "Past Tense". Anyway, I thought "Far Beyond..." was brilliant and is one of my faves. But that's my opinion.

Are you people NUTS!?! NO one has mentioned - one of the BEST episodes of DS9 ever... "The Quickening" - I'm afraid to watch it again - Incase I spoil it for myself - thats how high in reguard I hold this episode... that final shot... Bashir... the crowd... the baby... *choke*

Season 2 has to be the most underhyped and underappreciated of any season...

just go watch the Trilogy - but start with In the Hands of the Prophets... and watch Cardassians (watch it a few times - and you'll finally get it.) Melora is great too... not to mention Whispers, Armageddon Game, The Collaborator, Shakaar, Blood Oath, The Jem'Hadar, Tribunal, the one with Dr. Mora Pol and The Wire...

Ralph: Um, Miss Hoover? There's a dog in the vent.
Hoover: Ralph, remember the time you said Snagglepuss was outside?
Ralph: He was going to the bathroom.

"Far Beyond the Stars" is highly overrated, IMO. It's a delicate topic that I think Behr and Beimler didn't quite grasp.

*agrees with Omega regarding "In the cards"*

------------------
Elim Garak: "Oh, it's just Garak. Plain, simple Garak. Now, good day to you, Doctor. I'm so glad to have made such an... interesting new friend today." (DS9: "Past Prologue")

I disagree. It certainly doesn't constitute the alpha and omega of racial issues, but it's a very good episode.

I've always liked "Melora."

"Crossfire" is another one of my favourites. The bit where Odo smashes up his quarters is most memorable. The following scene with Quark is the icing on the cake.

Dax's Ships of STAR TREK

Sol: Yes, but I don't think it needs to be given the title of "DS9's Best Episode Ever," either...

Er, Lee... Is that joke, or...?

I like the Maquis story arc in DS9 starting with "The Maquis" parts one and two and ending with Eddington's death. I thought the whole thing was done well considering Sisko's personal involvemnets with members of the Maquis and the closeness of his command to the Maquis actions.

Why should it be a joke? We're discussing episodes that don't often get a good press. If you just want to rhapsodise about how good "SofA" was because it had loads of battles, find another thread. Otherwise, get with the program!

Posted by Elim Garak (Member # 14) on :

Lee: I just thought you said before that you hated "Melora"... And I have no intentions of glorifying "SoA".

OK. But I DO like Melora. It's got the bird from the Dr. Who movie, and I think the zero-G sequence is cool.

I haven't seen the previous posts in this thread, and the following episodes have probably already been mentioned, but here's some of my 'unsung' favourites.

Captive Pursuit
Duet
Paradise
The Way of the Warrior
The Visitor
Past Tense
Jem'Hadar
The Quickening
Armageddon Game

(I just looked at the whole thread and saw that most of the above have already been mentioned. I suppose they're not unsung any more.)

Woah, Sindiccychops, no need to duck there as the point goes over your head! "The Visitor," "WotW" and "The JH" are all eps that are considered classics, not unsung episodes. . . 8)

OK, here's another challenge: the best Ferengi episode. Considering averyone hates them, it must be possible to come up with one that's really good. I'd go for "Family Business" (which I saw again today; introduces Brunt, Moogie, and sets up a lot of the stuff that came after) or "The Magnificent Ferengi" (mainly for a non-Ferengi in it - IGGY POP!!! The coolest bit of guest casting in 35 years of Trek).

Posted by Elim Garak (Member # 14) on :

I'd say "Little Green Men". If anyone says "Profit and Lace", I'll do something abd to them.

"Business as Usual" gets my vote for best Ferengi episode ever. That is, if it counts. It's a Quark episode, and it does have his cousin in it.

Profit and Lace

seriously - you Americans just DIDN'T GET IT!!!!!! seriously... you really didn't get the joke... It was one of the funniest hours on Trek EVER!

Maybe Behr is English or something... it was so bloody funny... and the whole point of the humour wasn't just the 'Quark in Drag'...

Everyone I've talked to here - in Australia can't understand why all you Americans hate it...

Sluggo COLA! lol!

It may have been funny, but "Profit and Lace" insulted my intelligence. And I'm Canadian.

Actually, I'd forgotten about "Business as Usual". It's my favourite Quark episode.

I'm Australian and I simply thought "Profit and Lace" was OK. It neither impressed or offended me.

Indeed, "Business as Usual" is one of Quark's finest hours.

but you found it funny...???

Some of the reactions I've read on the net - from Americans... just... didn't get it...

OKm, maybe my praise was a little over the top - but not harsh at all - like some I have seen...

I generally didn't find it that funny, Andrew. It did have its moments, though. I remember finding the bits where Rom reveals his feminine side quite amusing.
