Hi fellows Trekkers I was just watching trek2 and I have a question. The Avenger/Miranda class has all ways been my most favorite star ship it just plain cool looking, well anyway I have all way wondering why it was given the hull number 1864? Is there a story behind that like there is behind 1701? Just wondering and thanks;-)

It's easy to read and obviously different from 1701?

Simple.. It's the 64th ship of the 18th cruiser design 8)
Here we go again

'Twas the year before emancipation, and all through the new world soldiers were readied....

That's the distance in cubits Harve Bennet and Gene Roddenberry got before falling down laughing in the big three-legged race that determines all registry numbers.

Starships are always given registry numbers based on cool facts about the captain. Captain Terrell once ate 1,864 marshmallows in a single day

and washed them down with a tall cool glass of melonade

I thought it was a Mint Julep?

Melonade!?!?! LOL!! (I've just sprayed the water I was drinking over the computer screen!)

No, no - there can only be 2 or 4-legged races - no 3-legged or 1-legged races

That's right, Andrew. A 3-legged race would not be stable, resulting in a loss of efficiency.
However, a 4-legged racer could, under attack, cut the binding strips, seperating into two 2-legged units for a multi-vector attack.

Oh well, our favorite pastime:
humorous Newbie bashing...

I wouldnt saw anyone bashed him (yet). We just dont know any answer to the question and thus the tread becomes a Monty Python sketch unto itself. Lighten up member #250! The multi-vector line was funny! Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :
Only if you look at it from different points of view....

Well perhaps I should have rephrased that. Not bashing, but showing sarcasm...
Not that I would mind. Perhaps I only chose the wrong smiley.
So Jason, no need for me to lighten up. I'm already lightened up. One week's holiday to look forward to...

Well okay then. Rest up on the holiday and then we'll bash the newbies.
