Taking into account what we've discussed here, I have put up a new page about the New Orleans.

Look here:

Wow COOL!
You should pass on the URL to Rick Sternbach - Lets him know - we WANT to SEE and KNOW about ships like the New Orleans and the Cheyenne...

I think a little library of such pages on the net - would be great!

Good job Bernd. Now that's a good solid collection of info on a little known ship. We all do great when we pull together like this (i.e. Cheyenne and NO)

Astounding. We need more pages like this. (Which reminds me, I ought to get the Stuff We Don't Agree On one organized....SWDAG for short. )

Shouldn't that be SWDAGO, or are we afraid of being picketed by Mexicans? 8)

Things In Trek Which Are Not Known? No, that would be. . . never mind.

Actually, that's was a typo. It should be SWDAO. I'd edit the message, but then everyone reading this thread would be confused.

Next ship, please!

Frank: I think I leave the SWDAO page to you. But be warned, there are those long evenings when I'm alone with my computer...

Why not call it STUWEDAGO?

Eh, call it whatever you want.

Is this the thread we call The City of New Orleans?

No.

Very nice, Bernd, this is the kind of analysis I like to see. Any chance of you doing one for the Excelsior and/or Ambassador variations?

Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :

Excelsior: There is not much left to analyze, the differences between the original (NX-2000) and the modified Excelsior (NCC-2000) have already been extensively discussed.

Ambassador: That's a nice idea for the next ship analysis. There are a lot of small differences, but I don't know of a comprehensive list. Since I've recently built the model, I have a lot of refernce material...

Ooh... I got my name mentioned... *jumps up and down clapping* :-)

And, to be grammatically corect, Frank's page should be SOWWDA (Stuff On Which We Don't Agree). More pronounceable, too, for that matter... :-)

Hm, "final solution" sounds a bit dubious, especially from a German :]

Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :

Hmm. Bad name. We should really call this thread The City of New Orleans.

Posted by Pedro on :

True, Bernd, the Excelsior modifications have been discussed, but not really well documented in one spot (I tried on my Excelsior page, but I get a little lazy when it comes to text). Let me know, I'd be happy to work on either with you.

I think you're right about the extended nacelles, though I was doubtful at first. The AMT 1701D model's nacelles taper slightly toward the front, which would make it difficult to splice them together to extend the nacelle. However, you can see in figure 5 that there is some "chunkyness" at the splice point, which would indicate the construction method you refer to. Sharp eyes, as usual.

I'm honored to be listed as a contributor, though I feel like the only thing I really did was argue with TSN and post Guthrie lyrics.

Pedro: Apart from your site, I would have to steal some reference material here:
http://www.ao.net/~chas_art/sbg/ref_excelsior/ref_excelsior.html
They have already worked out many details.

I'll you tell if I'm going to care for the Excelsior.

The nacelle taper is an obstacle to put together two pieces, and I think the whole rear end was made even with putty.

Sol: I am sure we all have appreciated your contribution.

Congrats, Bernd. Very comprehensive.

Hmmm, looking at Charles Adam's site (forgot about that one!), I noticed that the original Excelsior model must have been modified yet another time during it's stint as NCC-2000. One of the bridge closeup pictures shows the Enterprise-B type 'ridges' around the bridge module, which were not present when the model was first modified. Hmmm, I wonder when they did that....

Posted by Pedro on :

Nope, I take that back. Charles told me that the picture in question was actually grabbed from a pic of the 1701-B, since he didn't have any good Excelsior bridge shots.

Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :

I see. You think a more comprehensive treatise is necessary? I would prefer to care about the Ambassador next, there is reference material, but I didn't find any text about it, except for few hints at Roger Sorensen's site and the IDIC page.

Posted by Pedro on :

Ambassador's good with me, though a bit more difficult because of some of the very subtle changes to the model (things like moving the dorsal forward a few inches). I certainly think a proper analysis is desperately needed. I do have some new pictures that should help...

I think I will have a look at the material I have and open a new thread about it.
