What would be a good way of dividing ship production into periods for specific classes?
For example

TOS 2235-2269 > Daedalus class and original Constitution class
POST TOS 2269-2293 > Constitution class refit, Miranda, Excelsior, and Oberth
PRE TNG 2293-2363> Constellation ------>New Orleans
TNG 2363-2371> Galaxy---> Intrepid
POST TNG 2371-PRESENT Defiant------>Prometheus

Sounds like a good system, but the Defiant itself would go in one category and the class into another...

Some ships could be from a few possible eras, though (Akira, Sabre), so...

Well, If you were going to put the defiant into two catagories, you would change the catagories.

I think Catagory Groups there are good but maybe alter them a bit to account for the first appearance of the class, i.e. the registry number of the NX vessel.

Daedelus
Constitution

Constitution Refit
Excelsior
Constellation
Miranda

Ambassador
Norway
Akira
Steamrunner

Galaxy
Nebula
Olympic
New Orleans
Cheyenne

Danube
Defiant
Intrepid
Sabre

Sovereign
Nova
Prometheus
Data's Scout

Hmmmmmmm there seems to be about 4-5 classes with in each 'bracket'

Just as a side note, I'd like to point out that the only ships that we've actually seen with an NX regestry are those carrying experimental technology, so NX may signify that instead of class prototypes.

Or you could conversely point out that every NX ship ever seen has been the first of its class.

*SPOILERS*

My theory on the NX system goes thus: the class ship which bears the designation keeps it only as long as the technology is considered new. . . the first time it receives a major refit or upgrade, it reverts to NCC. Therefore by the time we see the USS Galaxy it is 10-15 years old, and just adding some of the refinements they developed, tried and tested on the Enterprise would add up to a significant overhaul of systems. Likewise the Excelsior. If the Defiant had survibed long enough to merit such a refit, as opposed to hasty repairs (Like after FC), it too would have changed to NCC.

uh.....guys.....this is a question about ship periods not registery classifications, but since we are on the subject I am with First Of One.

I agree with the top except switch defiant with intrepid.

Defiant used Galaxy class type engine system

and the Intrepid used the new "bradbury" type engine system

Bradbury engines? Nah, they're Intrepid.

Ohno, they've discovered our plot to create the perfect being by splicing the DNA of The First One and First of Two!

*aside* Better hide project "First among Equals," too.

And "First in War," "First in Peace," and "First in the Hearts of his Countrymen."

*Trek allegory mode* You're proposing that you're the Borg and First of Two is the Kazon?

Just thought I'd point out guys that the Nebula Class was introduced before the Galaxy Class, not after. The registry on Maxwell's U.S.S. Phoenix was lower than the U.S.S. Galaxy's. The New Orleans Class which obviously uses similar parts was also introduced prior to the Galaxy.

OTOH, the Phoenix was commissioned just before the Enterprise-D. The NO was used in the Cardassian war, though.

Andrew: I wonder why you list Norway, Akira and Steamrunner as ships contemporary to the Ambassador, or is there another reason to group them this way?

First One: well, people keep telling me I look a decade younger than I actually am...

I can adapt to higher ranges of temperature than most folks in my family, and still remain comfortable.

I have a gift for memorization and factual recall.

I can go for fairly extended periods without sustained physical activity (some call it laziness, I call it deep thought) without growing too restless.

I can eat just about anything.

With an average reading and comprehension speed of over two pages a minute, I can read your average novel in under two hours.

Also, I'm counting on various gene sequences to reinforce each other, allowing certain obvious strengths to have a cumulative consequence. Like, when two people of high intelligence mate, sometimes their kids are smarter than they are.

Please guys, I don't think mating needs to be discussed in this particular thread...

Especially when you consider that First of Two is using that as an argument as to why The First One should "assimilate" him.
