Can anyone shed some light on this. Enterprise-E's dedication plaque lists the Stardate 49027.5 Yet a contest at LCARScomnet claims 49827.5 as does James Dixon's files. Anyone know where the second date comes from?------------------ "Victory is Life!"

Well, most likely, since it's only a difference in one digit (8/0), one is simply a misreading of the other.------------------ "It'd be a pity if every pencil on Earth suddenly collapsed in on itself and blew everything up." -Krenim, TNO chat, September 30, 1999

According to the picture of the dedication plaque in the Encyclopedia, it's Stardate 49027.5.------------------ "Alright... Who wrote 'Beavis and Butthead rule' on the back of my skull?" - Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Star Trek Parody, The Critic

Ah... I see, they probably thought it was the latter, because the Stardate for First Contact was 50893.5, and Geordi said they had been in space for about a year.------------------ "Alright... Almost a year... *thinks* There's just something messed up with the First Contact stardate. ------------------ Elim Garak: "Oh, it's just Garak. Plain, simple Garak. Now, good day to you, Doctor. I'm so glad to have made such an... interesting new friend today." (DS9: "Past Prologue")

The SciPubTech poster has 49827 I believe, and there is a real picture of the plaque which shows the same number somewhere. Remember, Encyclopedia I had the Excelsior at 8105.5, while II has it at 8205.5 (same with the Chronology). These might not be identical reproductions. Also, why would O'Brian be saying "I'm sure they'll be building a new one soon" as late as stardate 49011 (Way of the Warrior)? Well, since a ship isn't necessarily given a name until just before launching, it's possible that, when O'Brien said that, the decision had only recently been made to call the latest Sovereign Enterprise, and he hadn't heard about it yet.------------------ "It'd be a pity if every pencil on Earth suddenly collapsed in on itself and blew everything up." -Krenim, TNO chat, September 30, 1999

That or the Enterprise-E was originally named USS Yorktown and Miles didn't know about the switch...------------------ "All you people, can't you see, can't you see How your love's affecting our reality Everytime we're down You can make it right And that makes you larger than life" -Backstreet Boys [This message has been edited by Michael_T (edited October 10, 1999).]

I have the book "The Making of ST:FC" by Lou Anders. The book has a nice photo of the real ded plaque. The stardate reads 49827.5.------------------ "Forgive me if I don't share your euphoria!" (Weyoun to Dukat, Tears of the Prophets) Dax's Ships of STAR TREK

I think I have this book (if it's the one I think it is). It's very rare, but has excellent photos. Well done, that Trill! *high-fives Dax* 8)For instance, it should have this pic:

Yep, that pic is in the book on p.69 with the plaque on p.68.The book is published by Titan Books. I got it at a local mainstream bookstore, Angus and Robertson, but they probably don't sell/make it anymore. I'll make a scan of the plaque and post it later on. ------------------ "Forgive me if I don't share your euphoria!" (Weyoun to Dukat, Tears of the Prophets) Dax's Ships of STAR TREK

It boggles me conceive how the mistake would then end up in the Encyclopedia. Wouldn't they just print an image of the plaque itself?------------------ "Victory is Life!"

No, because the Encyclopedia rarely uses the original art. The ship schematics are redrawn in Adobe Illustrator based on photos of the actual models - given their inaccuracy, I doubt that the process was anything more than simple drawing-while-viewing-the-photo. If the plaque was done in that manner, an error could have come up any time.Boris ------------------ "Wrong again. Better late than never: In 'Trails and Tribulations' sais one of the temperal inspectors that there are 6 Enterprises. In fact, he corrects the other guy, who said there were 5.I don't know which stardate this happened, but it seems that the Enterprise-E is launched just before that time. I hope this helps. ------------------ Presenting the NX-59650. It can slice! It can dice! It can seperate into THREE parts!! Now available with THREE FULL warpcores! But wait! Yeah, that's an '8.' Might be a '3,' but definitely not a '0.'

Also keep in mind that launching is different from active duty. Remember, in Generations, the Ent. B was launched, but didn't have all her equipment or her full drew. She hadn't even finished all her tests yet. Launched simply means spaceworthy and habitable and ready to get ready for service. It's likely that the Ent E was launched at least a few weeks if not months before her active duty began.------------------ "Resolve and thou art free."
