the evidence that everyone said supported this did not came from the episodes after episodes of voyager beating the borg...but was claimed to have been said by Tom to Harry.
i have absolutely no recollection about this episode, so can anyone confirm this---apparently Harry was playing his clarenet and someone was bothered making a comment about voyager's walls...then Tom said the wall were built for combat not accustics or something????
the rest of the episode they were chasing some traiter jonas or something....
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS EPISODE IS ABOUT
please doese anyone else remebers this???
I was pretty sure up to this point that intrepid class ships were built for medium exploration or scoutwork.

holy smokes!
so much for federation not building many warships.
btw is it meant to fight the borg?

But warship?
The idea of building a "warship" is totally against Federation's believes.
And again, even though that Voyagers pocess many qualities found on a warship, such as its' weapon and defensive capabilites, however, there are still many design which does not qualify Voyager as a "pure" warship.
For example, too many windows, and there is a high percentage of internal space in a warship delicated to "war" purposes, Voyager clearly failed in this area. Further more, all energy sources on a warship should be made avaiable for combat purposes, again, Voyager failed in this area.

So, how do you explain the Defiant? Sure, they classified it as an "escort" ship, but Sisko admitted it was a warship in "The Search."
The same with lying to the authorities. We could make the conclusion that ALL StarFleet officers love to lie to get what they want. Dirty turncoats! :-)
For example, Scotty's surprise that Geordi DIDN'T double the estimated worktime so as not to get stressed.
That's the only thing I hate about ST:VI (except for their pussy-inability to drink Romulan Ale) is that they must've done that pathetic "skippingSchool" manouver at least six times during the whole movie.
"Um, we may have some problems with communication, could take long to repair, over. heehee, that will fool those stupid people that are trying to tell us what to do. Whatcha call it, superiors?"
That's why I loved that scene in Voyager. Janeway wanted Torres to fix something during a crunch, I think Torres said "I need 3 hours". Janeway, assuming Torres was looking to buy time, said "You have ONE hour".
But Torres responded "No, I can't do it in one, I'm sorry. I MUST have three". That was cool, she really was dead serious. Kinda shexshy...
When Kira said she thought Starfleet didn't believe in them, Sisko should've said "Well times change. We have to defend ourselves against the borg and the dominion." or something.
At least he would've been honest, because they really needed warships. When they don't, just dismantle them, it would be even greater cause for celebration.
Besides, it doesn't matter what Starfleet calls their ships if the other powers don't recognize the classifications, like Kruge's gunner in ST:III, when identifying the Enterprise.
I understand and respect the wish not to support war, but Starfleet ships are already powerful enough to function as war ships. Putting families on board and holosuites and steam baths is just details. Look what Captain Maxwell did to the cardassians...
"No, that was no warship, just an explorer vessel with guns that can level a city in seconds!"
Or if a romulan ship would be ambushed by 10 rogue Nova class ships, would the romulans say "We are being attacked by ten starfleet science vessels with mediocre armament!!!"
I'd bet more on fast scouts...
'Course, I type this as I listen to They Might Be Giants' "Kiss Me, Son of God": "I look like Jesus / So they say / But Mr. Jesus is very far away / Now you're the only one here / Who can tell me if it's true / That you love me / And I love me..."

But any millitary needs good warships because there are alien races out there that want to distroy the federation.
ANY military? Amazing. 55 years after the fact, Wes is able to give the Nazis a suitable excuse to break the Treaty of Versailles' proscription against Germany rebuilding their Navy. . . 8)
It doesn't have Type X phasers, it was never established to have Type X phasers.
I've always been a proponent of Starfleet's angle of adopting naval terms, in itself a military. we know all this. One of the pages on my site deals with ship designations. As well as a little creativity to fill in certain gaps and grey areas this is based on canon knowledge.
http://www.trekmania.net/the_fleet/utopia/DEFINITIONS.htm
Its a canon fact that Starfleet uses the terms Frigate, Cruiser, Escort and Destroyer. The latter three alone were used by Sisko in the DS9 Dominion war to describe Federation taskforces. Perhaps as Seven Languages suggests, all ships are adequately armed to deal with potential threats, and could quietly be described as potential ships of war. Voyager included.

Werd, Commie Naval Dude. I've always thought that. Exploration first, defense secondary.
Frank is using me for a sig line. That, in my opinion, is not good. Espeically since I no longer do that. I now wake up thinking about madly sexualizing my girlfriend. And getting food. And caffeine. And figuring out exactly in whenwhere I am.

Oh. Okay. Hang on. Let me track down Rick Sternbach and smack him and tell him he's wrong about the ship he designed...
