OK, I've just gone through The Mighty Monkey of Mim's shiplist and as usual when I do this, I've found a load of holes in my own list.
As you can see I kind of shoot myself in the foot by including such a detailed description of most ships (except the show ones enterprise, deftiant etc..) I'd like some help in adding in where I've missed a ship reference in an episode (dialoge, display, whatever...)
this is a list of ships and the episodes in which they are mentioned that I donnot know in what context.(if u get that, your smarter than I am)
I'd appreciate it if somebody(s) could tell me what these ships were doing in these episodes.
for instance, if they were on a display what was the mission assignment, location, whatever is there basically. If it was in dialogue, what was said about the ship. It may seam VERY nit picky (which it is) but I think it paints a more vivid picture of starfleet in general.

This is slightly better
I see it as "Deep Space 9 - Vessel Arrival Stardate 47558 - 47561"
As for the rest, the first column are stardates (presumably arrival times) the second is ship names (U.S.S. ******)
The third is a mystery (and so the most interesting) while the last one looks like a list of the ships' captains.

Force of Nature (TNG)
Just my personal opinion here, but... I think that the USS Intrepid mentioned in "Force of Nature" could actually be the Intrepid-class prototype. I have two reasons for this:
1) The timing is just about right: mid-2370. We don't know the Intrepid's registry number for sure, but it's relatively close to Voyager's. At the very least, the Intrepid would be in its final pre-launch shakedown.
2) Geordi was having a little competition with his friend, seeing who could keep the best warp core efficiency or something like that. It would make more sense for the Enterprise to be competing with the warp design of a brand-new, top-of-the-line model, rather than a forty-year-old Excelsior cruiser.
quote:
Just my personal opinion here, but... I think that the USS Intrepid mentioned in "Force of Nature" could actually be the Intrepid-class prototype.
I never really thought of that, but I think you could be right, it does make a little more sence.
But then you could also argue that Geordi would be very conserned if his mate managed to get a better engine efficiency than a galaxy-class starship out of an old excelsior. But being outclassed my a brand new state-of-the-art Intrepid-class wouldn't sting as much...But still, I like the possible Voyager reference.
Although that would not have been the intention consiering that at the time of this episode, Voyager was in early pre production and I dought that they had nailed down a specific class name.
I personally still have this ship listed as USS Bogue NCC-70915 because I still don't see how the word Bonchune could fit there...
Sorry.
The thing about the Zhukov (Zuhkov) is this:
1. The studio model says NCC-62136 (The name is also spelled (presumably mis-spelled) U.S.S. Zuhkov.
2. The Encyclopedia gives the NCC-62136 in the individual entry for the ship, and on the diagram. The shiplist gives it as NCC-26136. In all cases, it is spelled correctly as Zhukov.
3. Okudagrams from TNG bridge displays have presumably given both registries.*
*A commonly unobserved fact is that when there is a discrepancy between registry numbers as given in individual Encyc entries and the shiplist, it is usually not due to a typo, but due to the fact that both registries have been given in panel displays or other readouts. They are not 'mistakes' per se, but are rather a straight record of what has been shown for each ship. The reader sort of has to choose between one or the other.
In the case of the Zhukov, I choose NCC-62136 as the correct number because it appeared on the studio model, plus it is the predominant registry given by the Encyclopedia, and it was probably given in an Okudagram at some point. And, in a bonus, it supports the theory that I maintain which states that registries are not sequential or chronological.

Nope, it's from the Captain's Chair-CD ROM. This display was in the Enterprise-D observation lounge and on E-D bridge computerscreens.

quote:
I forget why I was trying to look at the USS Trieste. Obviously something concerning it's class.
Yes, because a pre-production idea for this computer-display said that the Trieste was a Yosemite-class vessel.
The deal with the Trieste is that some early Okudagrams may have assigned her to the Yosemite-class, rather than the now well-established Merced-class.
quote:
I think what happened was the makers of TCC modified the panel to match the info in the Encyc
And I think they took the display from the TNG episodes and used it for TCC.
quote:
The display was almost always on in the Conference Room, and was quite viewable a lot of times, except not close enough to see the words clearly.
For the entire 7 years of TNG? What I am trying to do with this is establish what other ships in starfleet were up to & when. I'm not especially bothered if some of the class/registery info is conflicted (that is the norm).
I do recall one of the injokes from that chart being mentioned in one of the books (possibly the encyclopdia, or compedium). Look at the USS Thomas Paine's mission.
Now, apart from the already huge problem which means that the same group of people have been responsible for designing ships for 100 years (How old is Admiral Roddenberry now?), this same fanatic devotion to on-screen detail now has you believing that Alderaan is canon.
Let me say that again. You believe that Alderaan is canon in the Star Trek universe.
You need help.
Monkey: Okay, that's at least the third time I've seen you say "you friggin' stand-up comedian". Perhaps you should think of something a little more original (and sensical) now...
(Of course, in THAT universe, it was the dismal failure of Episodes II and III that sparked World War III...)
I would point out, if you believe that Alderaan is canon because of a display, then you'll have to accept that the USS Brattain is dedicated to Gilligan's island, whoever designed the Excelsior was a fan of Buckaroo Banzai, and that Starfleet has Chiefs of Staff called Admiral Gene Roddenberry and Les Landau. And that Starbase 515 looks exactly like a city from Angel One. And half a dozen other places.
I will also point out that this is the first time I've heard Mimmy call someone a "friggin stand up comedian". Sorry. I go to record "Just Another Manic Mojo".

Liam: I'm not saying the things that are simply silly can't be ignored. But "Alderaan" is a perfectly valid name for a planet. If the display said "Diplomatic mission to that planet that Princess Leia was from in Star Wars", we'd have to ignore it. But there's nothing wrong w/ "Alderaan".
Besides, we've got a ship class called "Akira". Isn't that just as bad?
...No wait, nevermind.
