I'm currently compiling a list of real-life Earth spacecraft actually seen or mentioned in Star Trek. I believe I have most of them, but I'd like to know if I missed something (perhaps in the form of obscure desktop models or matte paintings, etc.).

Currently I have:

Apollo-11
(mention of the first moonlanding in "Tomorrow is Yesterday" [TOS], Apollo-model in Wesley Crusher's SFA quarters in "The First Duty [TNG], Apollo-11 400-year anniversary festivities plaque in Harry Kim's San Francisco house in "Non Sequitur" [VOY])

International Space Station
(opening credits ENT)

Pioneer-10
(ST V)

Space Shuttle Enterprise
(rec-deck ST:TMP)

And the Voyager-6 from ST:TMP, semi-confirming the existence of the real-life Voyager-1 and -2 probes in the ST universe.

Some of this depends on your definition of "real." The ISS in Enterprise's opening credits is not the same ISS that we've got, as the design of the real thing has been cut back as the cost overruns become impossible to ignore.

Along the same lines, Sisko had a model of an earlier design for the station, back when we were still calling it Freedom.

I guess that 'similar' does it too. Thanks anyway.

Isn't that VentureStar paffing away from the station in the ENT creds?

Enterprise (edit: The shuttle, of course. [Smile] ) does also appear in the credits of Enterprise as do some other ships (I think the Apollo 11 lander, too).

The rocket (I think it was - or was supposed to be - a Saturn 5) in 'Assignment: Earth', TOS

Is the Ford pickup from 'The 37's', VOY concidered a spacecraft? [Smile]

TVH was dedicated to the victims of the Challanger explosion. Does that count?

What about 'Future's End', VOY? Didn't they mention Hubble?

That isn't the VentureStar, though it does look a bit similar, but then most second generation shuttle designs do.

The Enterprise Space-shuttle, is of course in the Enterprise opening credits too.

I don't know if anybody's mentioned it yet, but the Space Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise (OV-101) is in the credits for Enterprise.

"Space Shuttle Enterprise(rec-deck ST:TMP)"

"Enterprise (edit: The shuttle, of course. ) does also appear in the credits of Enterprise"

"The Enterprise Space-shuttle, is of course in the Enterprise opening credits too."

Oh, I guess it might've been already.

Did we mention the space shuttle docked at Sisko's ISS-model? I think it was the Enterprise. [Roll Eyes]

Is it true that the Buran is being dusted off and is going to be used again!?!

I think I heard something about that... Although knowing the Russians, by the time they have Buran up and running the US will be using the next generation shuttle. [Roll Eyes]

I thought I heard something about some Russian hangar facility's roof collapsing... though they didn't say it outright, I got the impression that it was something related to the old Buran.

That is quite interesting. I didn't know that the carrier Enterprise is an Earth spacecraft.

^^^^^ oh, you'd be surprised. It's all part of a secret US government strategy to deal with alien invasion.

I think it's extremely unlikely that the Russians or anyone else will be able to get anything more useful than spare parts out of the completed Buran prototype(s). Would be neat if they could, though.

Can I post the (almost) completely unrelated tidbit of info that the Russian have un-mothballed the Antonov An-225, the world's largest airplane ever built?

I say almost unrelated, as in the old days, the An-225 was used to carry the Buran just like the 747 sometimes does with the shuttles.

I just think it's a fascinating piece of technology. Check this out for more info:
Antonov 225 Info page
Enjoy!

Speaking of Buran...

AGH! You beat me to it! I'd just read that article!

Well, there are 462 memebers, at $12,987.00 each, a little more for shipping, handling, and taxes....

Another $20,000.00 to $30,000.00 each for getting it flight ready, advertising, and the such....

Get a few Tito's to want to be passengers.....

If you read that article, you'll find out something fishy . . . several copies of the original Buran were built, and they're all known by the same name.

What the heck is *that* about?

On the good side, though, this probably explains the NX-01 Enterprise and NX-01 Dauntless thing. You see, in 2151 Starfleet outsourced the handling of registries to the Russians, obviously, meaning that every Starfleet vessel of the era is NX-01.

(Later, of course, Starfleet caught on and got on to the Russians, saying that they wanted *different* registries for each ship . . . hence the crackpot registries of the TOS era. Ah, yes, it's all come together now.)
