In Crushers scene of violation... she's with Picard after the Stargazer incident that killed Jack Crusher. Anyway... there is a sign behind Picard's shoulder at some point... my best guess is that it says "Starbase 12" but I could be wrong. I was wondering if anyone knew more about this sign.

This one?

God, that wig looks crap.

Looks like "STARBASE 27" to me.

Wasn't there a similar plaque in "11001001"?

Maybe it's just a reuse of Starbase 74's plaque? or they've been nice and continuous and reused it as a Starbase format. Funny DS9 never had a plaque.

It wasn't a starbase. And they undoubtedly didn't wnat to offend their hosts, the Bajorans - who probably preferred the name "Deep Space Nine" to "Terok Nor."

There were a couple of designs for the Starfleet DS9 insignia or sign seen in the TM, possibly they were in the background at some point since they were Drexler or Sternbach designs

Actually it was. Sisko mentions the station as "Starbase Deep Space Nine" in a show in at least season 3 if I recall. It was used a couple of times after that, but even if it wasn't at first, DS9 definitely became classified as a starbase later on.

The sign in the background may be for Starbase 32. Such a sign was shown somewhere in season 1 or 2 I think. There's a recreation of the sign on page 157 of "The Continuing Mission" book.

That must be the worst Picard-photo I'e ever seen. One off-topic question though: Here and in BoBW they put something in his face/on his head. What exactly is that supposed to be?

A morphine injector, to forget the pain... [Frown]

future bandages.. theyre shiny and are super-complex, we could not hope to understand them.

seriously.. they were meant to be bandages. (the ones from Violations were reuses of the ones from "The Defector"

i wish there were more caps from this ep of Picard with hair.. if they put a good pic of young Picard on the Stargazer novels i bet theyd sell more

And why do they need them? I mean, if someone was injured they were always able to heal the injury instantly. No need for bandages. Allthough I think you are right it doesn't make much sense. [Confused]

Well, the BOBW bandages (which I quite liked the look of, so there) were on the areas that were borgified, so maybe they were preventing the nanopropes from reforming, or some other funky tech thing.

That's the sign... and it sucks too... I was hoping for something of a ship list.

As for the bandaid... remember this is some years before TNG. So the healing technology might not be as adept at healing the wounds that Picard received during the incident that killed Jack Crusher [did they use the same actor from... "Sins of the Father" (I think that was the ep)]. As for the other incidents of their use... the wound in "Defector" was on a Romulan, and IIRC, Crusher was guessing. During "BoBW" I figured that the nanoprobe inhibitor that was mentioned might be a good answer, but I prefer the excuse of an extremely deep wound.

Yup. Although not that episode. Jack appeared in "Family", "Violations" and "Let's give Wesley a stupid final episode". He was obviously a very good actor, which is why he turned up to lie in a box and be very still in "Violations". It was Emmy-award winning.

Are there any other shots of the not-so-bald Picard availible? Preferebly Something where he isn't trying to poke the camera with his nose.

I ask because I never did manage to finish my Personnel File project.

perhaps a poster here has Violations n a recorded format as a tape or file. Perhaps said poster could cue up that scene and take vidcaps of Picard having hair.

Perhaps.. is S5 out yet?

I think SoundEffect is right, it's the STARBASE 32 sign from The Continuing Mission.

The entirety of TNG came out on DVD last year.

About that forehead doohickey... Wasn't there an odd forehead fixture of some sort on the other telepathic impersonations the Ullian mind-rapist did, too?

And yes, these close-ups raise the question of whether Picard had hair in 2354, or wore a bad rug. The latter would jibe better with Nemesis...

Nope, it doesn't matter. He had hair in "Tapestry" as well.

Maybe in that shot in Nemesis he'd shaved his head for the Starfleet swim team & was now reflecting upon the irony of it all.

And an American accent in those scenes of "Young Picard", IIRC. [Wink]

I think all young Picard did was laugh after he got stabbed.

Posted by Griffworks (Member # 1014) on :

I know that he only laughs in the scene where he's stabbed, looking at the sharp-pointy thing sticking out of his chest. However, isn't there a scene earlier on w/him speaking several lines of dialogue? Like at the very beginning of the episode...?

Guess I need to watch "Tapestry" this evening. I kinda hate to do that, tho, 'cause I've been watching the episodes in order....

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

No. He laughs, that's it.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Yah... I was pretty sure all he did was laugh. Cause the only time we even see him is when Q shows John Luck the fight while he's still in "heaven".

Random Quote: "You are NOT God!" "Blasphemy. You're lucky I don't smite you or something."

Classic Q moment...

i think this is a likely explanation.. for the "Nemesis" picture, Picard shaved his head upon entering the Academy for the reasons that young men frequently shave their heads when joining military academies (or if you like the 'less-military' approach you can assume a swim-team or bunsen-burner-accident excuse).. then, by "Tapestry" he had regrown his mop, but would tragically lose all his hair some 30+ years later (he still had a combover by the time of "Violations"

The young Picard, played by Marcus Nash, did not speak in "Tapestry"

plus, i'm sure its obvious they cut a few corners on Nemesis, they dint want to buy a wig after already having paid Tom to shave his head.

plus, they probably didnt want to confuse casual fans by showing Picard with hair, theyd be like 'who's that guy with hair?'..

plus, i say plus too much.

I heard the story, that he had shaved his head for another movie and didn't want to regrow it for Nemesis.

Hey don't knock the continuity, buster!! I mean look at the other series when they want to have a character brought back... they just recast them... *ahem* Creetak *ahem* Admiral Paris for starters.

Bald Picard? Maybe it was the style at the time - a Bolian fad?

Wow...the Adm. Paris actor was changed, I'll be damned...I never notice. [Eek!] Far less noticable then say, Braxton and Alexander...
