I once read a basic description that went something like "even though Einstein said there was a limit to how fast an object could move through space there was no limit to how fast space itself could move" So in theory a dubspace field 'cuts' a hole in space and moves it??? with the ship itslef remaining stationary in that field? I asked my physics teacher about it years ago (nearly ten! holy shit..) and she just bit into an apple and ignored me.<br />Stephan Hawking once said 'he was working on that' on a visit to the set, i won't be holding my breath for the reason that this is the man who wrote brief history of time based on the fact he thought 'thats the way it probably works' then ten years down the line said 'tear it up, i've devised a new theory about the way it probably works...' There are some vague theoretical (fantastical) propulsian mechanisms labelled as 'warp drive', but the Star Trek variant that involves 'subspace' and 'warp coils' is utter nonsense.
