Actually, as I mentioned, all the governments in this area (which is all the blocks surrounding the default, a few deep in any direction, especially "north," actually) have all been in contact with each other for millennia. Your idea would need to go someplace out of the way...this is perfectly fine (we've got lots of space), but you couldn't really "interact" with any of the other established civilisations.
