Further to my Atlas-Class, here is the first pass at the quadruple container tug which I had promised.

Robo-Tug 2

For the purposes of this schematic the port and starboard tow pads have been left empty.

Any suggestions for a name? It should be along the same lines as Atlas, possibly some other mythical figure who was made to carry a heavy burden or was notably strong...not Hercules, that just sounds silly.

Anteus. Perhaps not the best omen for a starship, but it fits and it sounds good.

Blessed be.

Doesn't ring a bell.

Nice DY continuity with the tower.

Name submissions--
Qagwaaz (Amerind hero; exceptionally strong)
Tiera (Finnish mythology; "shield man' to the hero Lemminkainen)
John Henry (American folk hero)
Crius (greater Greek titan; handles weight, denisty, & gravity)
Ebisu (Japanese god of luck through hard work)
Grolantor (god of the hill giants)
Sleipner (Odin's 8-legged steed)
Magni (Norse god of strength)
Vidar (Norse god of strength & silence)
Cratos (Greek god of strength & power)
Strenua (Roman goddess of strength & vigor)
Sir Gawain (One of the strongest of the Arthurian knights)
Sir Pelleus (Another of the strongest of the Arthurian knights)
Svyatogor (Russian hero warrior)
Fenoderee (strength god from the Isle of Man)
Balarama (Hindu god of agriculture & strength)

And Antaeus was a giant, the son of Poseidon & Gaia. As long as he stood on the ground, he could regenerate & draw power from the earth. He would also constantly grow in size.

I say name it:
Bender
Gigantor
Macross
Rodimus
Robby
Calculon

(It is a robot ship after all!)

Bugger!! I saw Bender and I was going to put Calculon!! [Smile]

Does it run on a duotronic processor or a femputor? [Wink]

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

It runs on liquor.

Zaku
Megamaid

I was under the impression that the G in the TAS registries had something to do with them carrying grain. I gave my robotug a T (for transport or tug) registry.

As tempting as Bender and Megamaid are, I think I'll go with Magni-Class...I have a soft spot for Norse mythology.

However I am shocked and appalled that know one even suggested Johnny Five [Wink]

BTW, Shik: How did you compile all that so quickly?

I doubt registry codes are THAT specific.
I just took "NCC-G" as being a special code for autonomous Starfleet vessels.

Oh and for those of you who enjoy the little details, here's a close up of the mechanics of the tow pad.

Ahh.. the all-important GNDNs! [Smile]

Very nice!

Just an idea that occured to me ages ago when one of the fighter threads was going but I don't think I ever posted: Something like this design but carrying attack craft on the tow pads- larger than the usual fighter designs and specialised for combat; they wouldn't have to lug around an interstellar fuel supply or be small enough to fit in shuttlebays/hangers.

The mythology geek's friends: the AD&D "Legends & Lore" manual & Encyclopedia Mythica.

Then might I suggest a slight change to Vidar-class? After all, it's an unmanned drone tug, & Vidar was the Norse god of strength & silence.

I suppose you wouldn't want to have two classes with Greek names, but what was the name of the god (or Titan?) who was doomed to keep pushing a boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back to the bottom just as he reached the top?

Looks cool! [Smile]

The USS Vidal Sassoon?? Captain Mott commanding.

Sisiphus...

I don't know if that is the correct spelling.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Samson... Oh well. [Smile]

IMHO this design makes more sense than a single-container robo-tug.

Just doesn't make sense to send one container zipping along when you should really send a whole bunch. Anti-matter ain't easy to produce!

Ta very much.

I think strength and silence are characteristics more relevant to a stealth ship. I'll keep it in mind if I ever draw one. [Wink]

The singer container is really for the Starliners, which probably travel solo as a matter of policy.

Remember that these containers are very substantial structures and can carry an enormous amount of cargo, so outside of the Federation Core worlds and primary shipping lines one container is usually more that sufficient.

The Samson Class tug was a Reliant-esque tug used for hauling Regula-type stations around from the FASA Role Play Game. Neat design.

Great design job Rev on your automated ship. That would make a decent model, it would...

Well, mabye not for you. [Razz]

Yeah, there's a lab somewhere in the states where they haul around antimatter by the buttload!

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

I'm sure that by the 23rd century they should be able to produce large quantities of anti-matter without too much fuss.

I'm jumping in late here, but if you named it Calculon, and you were staying with the DY-family's antennae, then you could have two of them, pointing in random directions... hehe

Great job, "Reverend"! Creative design w/o going overboard, IMO.

What do you use for creating the line drawings? I'm curious to know, as I'd like to try and do up my original designs in five or six views, plus an isometric angle view.

Again, nice job. I have no suggestions for names that haven't already been offered.
