A WIP for some MCARS graphics.
Most of that stuff is accurate with just a few inventions on my part. If someone can point me in the direction of some good photos of Picard as a cadet and some season 1 photos I might be able to Photoshop something to suit the period.

I know this really isn't the place for this discussion, but since its somewhat on topic....isn't it odd that he has flowing hair in his depiction of a ensign in "Tapestry" yet in "Nemesis" his picture as a cadet is bald (and not shaved bald, but bald bald)???

Thanks Masao.
This isn't as easy one might think, here's my first attempt.
It looks like a wax mask or a botched facelift to me. I haven't altered the hair yet simply because I don't quite know how, at least not with out it looking airbrushed and fake. Also changing the colour seams to be quite difficult. Are there any experienced photo-manipulators out there?

I think you went a bit too far. Who looks sort of like a semiformed pod-person or a larva. He needs his chin dimple back. Maybe just reduce the eye bags and mouth-nose lines a bit.

Interesting, Picard had red thick hair in "Tapestry", but not in the "Nemesis"-photo, but Picard got into the military career thanks to a Nausiccan shortsword, if we're to believe Q.
Shinzon didn't get a shortsword in him during youth, but probably a lot of other things, but anyway he finally got something through his upper torso, like Picard, and so the impaling-circle is complete!

Didn't Picard have black, watercombed hair in some flashback of him commanding the Stargazer? Something involving Dr Crusher's late husband?
That must've been much later than the Academy, and it looked rather good, I would go with that.

Here's what I could find on short notice. From "Tapestry" and "Violations"...

I thought that was REALLY daft them showing that stupid bald picture in Nemesis. And really - Shinzon shouldn't have been BALD BALD.
Oh and what is that middle picture from - I recognise the first from Tapestry and the third from ?Reflections?

The second and third picture are both from "Violations".

Thought I'd do a search for his character, Karla, in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979) and Smiley's People (1982) but all I found was another page on the Patrick Stewart Network (!) and this:

While we're at it, does anyone have a clear version of the Academy picture from Picard's book (the one with Tom Hardy in a cadet jumpsuit)?

The bald Picard Cadet picture was laziness on the part of the film makers. Casual viewers might not pick up on the fact that it was Picard if they didn't make him bald.
*sigh*
Anyway... to the graphic... you'll have to refresh my memory, but do they list the person's rank along with their name in the personnel listings we've seen? I mean, rank could change, though their names wouldn't. With the massive information network starfleet uses, updates to things like personnel files would probably happen fleetwide within a couple of days of any change, but still... I'm wondering if the rank shouldn't be listed elsewhere.

As you like it, I'd say. The personnel files in "Conundrum" and "The Next Phase" had both name and rank, while the files in "Eye of the Beholder" had just the name.

I know. I just wanted to see that picture again. And maybe you could give him hair if you wanted to use that photo and stay as accurate as possible.

In that case, he'd have to give him a new uniform as well.
That's the best picture I could find: http://lobotomy.pleh.net/~flareupload/uploads/322/picard2.jpg

Can someone look at that ("Violations"[TNG]) dream sequence and see if there is a front on shot of the younger Picard, that might prove to be useful.
As for the Nemesis photo, perhaps Cadet Picard has been the victim of a prank.
Isn't that what's supposed to have happened to Garibaldi in B5?

I still can't fathom why people can't seem to grasp the idea that Picard shaved his head for a time while a cadet, later grew it out again, and then lost it naturally as he got older. This is hardly unbelieveable, if you ask me. I personally have a teacher who did the same thing. (Bald for looks as a young man, then full hair in mid-life, and ending up bald again.)

Works for me. Although these were his athletic days, so he could have shaved it for something a little more practical that mere aesthetics.

Quite true. Perhaps he was the star of the Academy's swim team...

Well, either young Picard once shaved his head because he lost a bet. Or he wore a hairpiece for quite some time after his Academy days until his age "allowed" him to go bald again.
I don't even think that whoever made the photo of young Picard (Tom Hardy) for Nemesis was lazy. It was just meant to stress for occasional viewers that Shinzon was exactly like Picard, and to give us something to bother about...

Why not use a picture of Thomas Hardy with hair?
Or meld Stewart and Hardy? Or the boy from 'Family'

Actually - when did Bev meet J-L? I'm guessing academy then - I thought it was later.
Question is - was Beverly bald then too??
Maybe Picard is Deltan!?!
