I was wondering if anyone knows of the name of the comic (or better yet, knows of a picture somewhere) that has a Romulan-ized D7 with a double hull? I saw this ship in a comic a while ago. It was set in the Movie-era, of course. It just looked like a D7 with another wing thing going under the nacelles and a weapons pod in the middle of it. Thanks!

Tests of Courage, had Captain Sulu in it.

There was a similar one in a 5 part story that ran in the Star Trek comic. The Romulans went back in time and messed up Klingon history. When they returned to the 23rd Century they found that the Federation had joined forces with the peaceful Klingons (a race of diplomats and scientists) to wipe out the Romulan Empire decades before. In that timeline, Uhura was Kirk's first officer, Colonel Worf was a Starfleet lieutenant and his science officer, and David Marcus had never died. The Klingons' sense of honor compelled them to return the timeline to normal.

hehe... Lieutenant Worf. And yes, I know it's the Worf from ST6 and not the TNG/DS9 Worf.

Here's my scan of the movie-era Romulan Warbird from DC's Star Trek #55 entitled "TIME CRIME, PART THREE: Time...To Time!"
That's the only panel of the ship in the issue I have, but the others in the arc might have more...

The single lamest ship design I've ever seen. Period.

I dunno, I always thought it was a nice "link" in the design lineage...

I agree it's a bit clumsy, even if it is a logical progression.

"TNG era Warbird... a more elegant design for more civilized ages. Not as clumsy and random like movie-era Warbird"

How would they get to the lower section of the ship?
The TNG warbird has connections fore and aft to the lower section, but this....

The drawing also blows. I can't abide perspective problems
Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :
Well it looks like the lower section is just equipment. There probably isn't any living establishments down there. Also, the same problem is apparent in the Oberth...
Thanks for the scan, Mim!

They should have mirrored the head and body to the bottom position, but pointing the oppposite direction. They could then go in all directions equally fast!!!!

Then it would spin on it's vertical axis as it moved, like it was rolling toward you!
i tried doing a graphic of the warbirdized K't'inga a few years ago and realized how ungainly it looked.. i ended up using artistic license to make it look a little more stable, then gave up on finishing a rendered version..
the gif-bash i was intending to work from:
i didnt end up spending any more time on it, maybe i'll render it someday

Now it doesn't look half bad... But its still a weird kitbash
And, with all due respect to April Wells modeling skills, I think his battleships looks even worse... like a Bat-warbird with big nose

I have a clear version of that Comic ship at home (should have read this thread at home). I post it when I get home.

Wells' version takes a lot of getting used to.... but it grows on you.
I'd have lost the BOP's bridge section entirely and that nose as well, but that's just me playing devil's advocate.

The nose part on Well's model is the work of the Devil, you don't want a penis for a nose (although it never hurt Karl Maldens career I suppose). The rest of it I can live with, it's not too horrendous from the front or side but the top section view reveals it's Frankenstein origins. The one in the comic is the work of a bored comic artist, it suck AND blows.

Here's that pic that someone sent me a long whiles ago.

*ponders* Both of those designs have some merit...at least the concepts are interesting. I don't know, I may be (or may not) able to do something with the concept and I have been meaning to do a TOS-era Romulan design for a while now. And no Masao, I'm not naming it after a vegetable!

I still like the design.

Me too.

And I thought the "Event Horizon" was the poorest design I'd ever seen.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Those designs are completely different though. I liked seeing an outgrowth of the Romulan's use of Klingon ships. Technological continuity and such.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
The ships I linked would be of alater vintage than that....no TNG era Romulan would ever serve on a filthy Klinbgon design!
I never cared for that idea that the Romulans had to "use Klingon designs"....I DO like FASA's (movie-era) crossover designs though like the Bright One destroyer and the Whitewind cruiser: they have just enough klingon influence to suggest some tech trading but not so much that the Romulans dont have a unique design esthetic.
