I have a very hypothetical idea of the U.S.S. Intrepid ship from Enterprise. However. I've done it very lo-res on a raster image editing program. What I'd like is for someone to help me develop a higher-res more accurate version. So, any input on changes would be great. Can someone help me post it on here?

Do you mean you have conceptual views of the other parts of the ship that we've never seen like the ventral surface? Or do you think we've never seen the Intrepid before and you have your own idea of what it looks like?

There are some pretty good screen caps of the ship out now if you're looking to refine your design of the ship. Some of the older threads here should have those caps.

I would love to see someone make a phat mesh of that ship though.

No, what I mean is I have drawn up a set of 4-view (fore, aft, dorsal, starboard) of isometrics of the Intrepid from Enterprise. I realize they're crude, and would love input on what needs changing, but, as I'm new, don't know how to post the image file on the board.

I was hoping someone like the Reverend or Masao could give it a once-over and produce a much-better incarnation of my image.

By the way, I have not done ventral views, but as a long ventral shot is among the hi-def screen-caps linked to on this board, I have used them to construct the Intrepid, so I don't see why I couldn't also add the ventral view.

email them to me at [email protected]

I'll post them. [Smile]

Ok, Mighty monkey....you should have the image file by now [Smile]

Ok, the new Flare Upload doesn't like TIFF files so here it is converted to JPEG. [Wink]

That's a nice set of drawings, Irishman!

Very nice Irishman and it seems accurate based on the screen caps I have see.

Nice job, Irishman!
I retract some of the "newbie cannibal jokes".
I think the rear of the saucer may be a bit off: I'll look into it when I build a physical model of it.
What'd you make that in? If you could just learn Illustrator, you'd be making some really dine schematics then.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

I'm going from memory here, so I could be wrong, but wasn't the saucer a little more than a half-circle? In other words, shouldn't the back of the saucer be made of two diagonal lines when seen from the top?

What kind of software did you use for this?

Is that anything like gay German cannibal? [Smile]

I was thinking the same thing about the saucer. I don't think it cuts off along the center of the circle like that. It's either a little more, like the Akyazi, or a little less making it look more like the Nova's saucer.

Fine drawings, though. I'm with Jason. Learn Illustrator. You'll like it.

It really should be more Akyazi-like. I think that really was the source of inspiration. So we have NX evolves to Akira, Daedalus evolves to Olympic and Intrepid-type evolves to Akyazi.

Nice.

A note about file compression:

Some of us on on dial-up. This graphic really benefits from gif compression as do most line-art graphics without blends or gradients.

Answers to questions:

1. The software I use is proprietary, not off-the-shelf, not really marketed for what I'm using it for. The name wouldn't help you.

2. As for Dat's idea of a lineage based on the Akyazi. I saw the similarity too, but it seems to end with the simple inspiration of the demi-saucer. After all, the Akyazi is not a canon design, whereas the Daedalus and Akira are.

3. When I made the demi-saucer, the easiest interpretation was the straight cut-off. The screen grabs are not too awfully helpful, as we don't get a top-down wide shot from which to gauge that plane. I don't want to infer forms based on what we'd like to see there, or a bad angle. That's also why the back of the saucer on the aft view, and the connecting dorsal on the side view are devoid of details, because we really don't know what's there.

4. Point taken about the GIF format.

5. I'm working on the ventral view.

that's the same reason i won't tell them who i work for! too much at stake, eh comrade?

I think people (including me) were just suggesting that you would like Illustrator for this kind of work.

I'm almost positive there's a shot from the new Ent ep with the Intrepid that shows a good aft view. I know it was posted here not too long ago.

I think Mim should have a new revision of that Intrepid graphic for you tonight perhaps

Mmmm... now that's what I'm talkin' about. Very cool. Now... do the flying wing!!

Please.

Posted by Irishman (Member # 1188) on :

I imagine the Intrepid to be about 180 meters long, based on the size I used of the saucer. Five 3 meter decks, with one shuttlepod bay about the same as that of the NX-01.

I moved the impulse engines to the edges of the saucer, for two reasons:

1. They couldn't be where I had them before, as there is visual evidence to the contrary,

2. There is a small glow in one of the screen caps I've seen that looks much like impulse exhaust.

Working on the flying wing.

I'll build a 1:2500 Intrepid, one day... [Roll Eyes]

Irishman sent me this enlarged version of the ENTrepid top view:

MMoM,

Thanks for that, man. Large file, I know. Should I continue with the other views?

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

By all means. [Smile]

Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :

Very well done, Irishman.

I was uncertain about the true shape of the saucer, but I agree with the revision that it's a bit more than exactly 180 degrees.

Is the deflector red though?

Posted by Irishman (Member # 1188) on :

Nah, gold. MMoM should post a new Intrepid color change

A question: Did you mean to leave one side of the hull plating untextured near the forwardmost running light? I would assume that was a mistake.

Posted by Irishman (Member # 1188) on :

Good catch. The plating was a detail study that I forgot to delete.

In case you're curious, the color palette I got by Photoshopping HD screencaps of the Intrepid, and eyedropping a dark, medium, and light hull color, as well as nacelle blue, bussard red, and other notable spot colors. I've written down the RGB values and will be using them in the vector version of the Intrepid graphic.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Nice, just two things...

Shouldn't the running lights be red and green?

And the hull colour should be less beige and more... coppery dark grey - no?

Very Nice.

How about an MSD? [Smile]

Posted by Irishman (Member # 1188) on :

Andrew,

No, the NX-01 is coppery dark grey. The Intrepid is a lighter color in the HD shot of it in the convoy ("Twilight"). I used that shot as a basis because it's evenly-lit, and not awash in FX colors from explosions, etc.

I'll check the running lights, but you're probably right.

I'd make an MSD but what would be the point? They didn't have Akudagrams in the 22nd century.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

That's "Okudagrams", after Michael Okuda.

Posted by MinutiaeMan (Member # 444) on :

Sure they've got Okudagrams in the 22nd century -- they just look different from the once we're used to in TNG and the like. After all, Okuda's still doing the graphics work for those displays... [Razz]

Wasn't one of the best examples we've seen to date of and aboard the Horizon in "Horizon"?
