I can't believe I did this one in one night. I found some very good references and decided to do a profile view of the BSG Viper. This would be the version from the Sci-Fi Channel remake.

My only issue with it is I couldn't track down the correct font for all the markings. I used a similar font, but I suspect that they created a new one specifically for this purpose.

C&C welcome!

Very nice indeed. Any other views you'd like to do?

It looks very nice, especially with all those markings, but as far as I can tell, it's slightly too short and too tall.

Wait - is this the "old" Viper they end up using, or the "current" model that didn't fare so well?

This is the old Mark II Viper, old ship of Adama, not the Mark VII Viper. Mk VII is much more ugly [Smile]

It sure is: you ever see the unused design made for the BSG series that stalled in pre-production?

That one looks gooood.

Kazeite: It's not too short or tall. I basically traced it off a side-view render of the real deal. See here: http://www.starshipbuilder.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000002.html

Personally, I prefer this one over the unused design. But I agree that the Mark VII is ugly. Maybe it would look better with a good paint job.

Hm, I guess that my source is the one that is distorted... I didn't know about those renderings [Smile]

Oh well, good work, then. Keep it up.

And... what was the unused design? Do you have any sketches of it or smth?

Oooh, nice! Are other views in the pipeline? Please say yes.

True to form, I am now going to disagree with everyone in the universe and add that I actually liked the Mk. VIII too. Although not as much as the Mk. II.

Yes.... eventually.

For now, here's a look at some different paint jobs:

I feel like I'm looking at the centerfold of an "In Action" book. Lou Drendel eat your heart out...all hail the mighty software!

Camoflauge in space= goofy.

Nice renders though.

Shame the cylon ships suck so hard though.....
Mabye they'll make something cool once the series starts.

Well, if I did anything other than that particular camo pattern, some might not recognize it as a Russian paint job.

Did the top view tonight:

If camoflage is irrelevant in space, who's to say they can't have camoflage for fighting in an atmosphere? It's not as if having a three-tone paint job will make them more vulnerable to guided missiles launched from a frillion klicks away. They could paint the bloody things lime green if they wanted to.

Yes, I just resurrected an old thread, but it's MY old thread, so there! [Razz]

The first two are new paintjobs with slightly different markings that I just neglected to post here:

And this one was the result of a bit of nostalgia caused by CMT's reruns (I couldn't help myself):

Hello everyone! I'm new to the board and I actually came across this thread whilst looking for Viper pictures and reference photos. I have to say I'm REALLY impressed w/ the amount of work that was put into the Vipers especially the custom Designs! I'm A BIG fan of the new series, and I love the Mk. II redesign of the Viper. I also play the video alot even though I'm stuck on this one level thats really hard. Anyways, I was wondering if there were any plans to do the remaining views of the Viper? The artowrk you've done sofar is awesome, and I like the original ideas for the USAF and Sukhoi Russian variants. I f we had Vipers in our airforce I'd join today lol! But anyways more to the point I just wanted to say I loved the artwork, and was hoping you'll do some more pictures like the 3/4 views as well as the bottom front and rear angles. Also, did you have any plans for making a Silver Spar Squadron variant? I don't know if they ever mentioned Pegasus in the new series, but if I recall the silver spar squadron on that battlestar had unique markings. Any ways, enough for now, but thanks again for making some awesome pics.

PS. I was wondering if anyone in the US has gotten the new series' season 1 on DvD. I was wondering how it compared to the regular airings on Sci-Fi (extended/added scenes etc.) If anyone can let me know I'll be better informed when I go and pic my copy up!

Season 1 of BSG has been released on DVD labeled as the "UK Edition" or something at Best Buy.

Wait for the actual full-retail release on September 20th, if you can.

Yeah, I learned about it a few days go... I had plans to eventually buy the miniseries DVD together with the first season box once it was released, but if it's going to include it, all the better. I wonder if the 1st season episodes will be dubbed too, like the miniseries was... it's one of the best dubbings I've heard lately (most other ones from the last 10 years or so seem amateurish).

[Oh, in case you're wondering, a friend of mine bought the miniseries DVD back then when it was released... various circumstances prevented me from buying it so far]

Thanks for the compliments, Starbuck! I wasn't really planning on doing any more views for the alternative paint schemes. If I did, it would only be a top view since any non-ortho or perspective view would be a huge pain to attempt. As for Silver Spar Squadron, I don't know what that looks like. I do remember seeing the Pegasus in the original series, but it was so long ago.

You should make a whie Viper with red stripes as an X-Wing riff.

oh wait....

I dig that "Triton" version- reminds me of Enterprise B's colors.

Perfect in case the Cylons ever decide to replicate Jabberjaw.
