A preview of the landmark SG-1 epsiode "200", the 200th episode of the show, has been released. Catch it here:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=z2EWNzLD6ng&search=stargate%20200

Hackneyed spoiler synopsis:

Mitchell is ecstatic to be going through the gate for his 200th trip. However, when the gate experiences technical difficulties, the team is stuck with Martin Lloyd, who is supervising a fan-inspired movie version of "Wormhole X-Treme!", his cancelled TV series (wink wink). Anyway, while serving as Air Force technical consultants for the movie, the team (and the SGC) pitch their own ideas for how a stargate-inspired movie should look, and...

Or perhaps "milestone" and "having fun" don't spring into your mind?

How is it noting a milestone by doing exactly the same as you did last time, with a plot line that wasn't especially entertaining the first time around?
What's coming in episode 300? A computer game of Wormhole X-treme perhaps? A novel of it maybe? [Razz]

Don't knock it until you've seen it. And I *loved* "Wormhole X-Treme!", both as an SG-1 fan and as a fan of the television industry. This should be the same kind of fun episode we haven't seen in , well, five years. [Smile]

I loved "Wormhole X-Treme!" myself as well. It's like taking a break from a grueling job to make fun of it for a little while. And I'm sure the writers are smart enough to not simply do a rip-off of the previous story. After all, how similar was "Wormhole X-Treme!" to its predecessor, "Point of No Return"? Plus, hey, it's the return of Richard Dean Anderson for something more than just a cameo appearance!

You should wait until you actually see the episode before passing judgment, Zippy. [Smile]

Teal'c and Carter as D'argo and Chiana? That settles it. If nobody hears from me ever again after this episode airs, it's because I died of laughter. [Big Grin]

My only question is whether or not they got, or even COULD get, Ben and Claudia to reprise their roles. I'm willing to bet that they don't, with a crazy one-liner to that effect.

And whose idea is it for them to do The Wizard of Oz? On the Atlantis sets? And why is the Teal'c Woodsman so built?

God, I love this show.

Mark

Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :

Why shouldn't they do the Wizard of Oz? It's not like O'Neill didn't drop an Oz reference every other episode....

My one-sentence review: "SG-1 not only jumps the shark, but they enthusiastically grab on and ride it like a bronco!" [Big Grin]

I mean, hey, they've even got FURLINGS!

Best. Thing. Ever.

The singularity is about to explode? Everything about that statement is wrong.

Posted by Krenim (Member # 22) on :

Geez. Where to begin? I guess at the beginning.

Ewoks! Furlings! And all of them get blown up within 30 seconds! Gotta love the little shrug Carter gives as she's getting beamed away.

We get a nice little jab at early Season 9's butchering of the opening credits. Oddly, we don't get the credits until the end of the episode, which would have been a great way to keep the guest appearances secret if it weren't for the fact that they've been plastered all over every Sci-Fi commercial break. And yes, that gets a nice little jab too later on.

Pierre Bernard continues to draw the ire of the SG-1 team by getting shot repeatedly by Mitchell in his zombie sequence.

Mitchell suggests bringing in a replacement character to replace the main character.

When Siler gets thrown up against the wall, he laments why such things always happen to him. This is, of course, because he's one of the show's stunt guys.

Am I supposed to recognize the guy who was playing Scotty in the Star Trek parody?

The Farscape parody basically consisted of cramming every single made-up Farscape word ever into less than 30 seconds, which in and of itself was hilarious. We again get a "Jackson and Mitchell look like" joke with Jackson playing Crichton and Mitchell playing Stark. Martin Lloyd has no idea what Farscape is.

So what is 30185?

As much as I love the Farscape parody, I think I gotta give it up to the puppet sketch as being the most hilarious. Never mind the fact that it's a completely inaccurate retelling of how everything got started. Hammond's hamming it up, Jackson's writing, and the fact that the event horizon cut off the puppet strings leaving the puppets dead on the other side of the gate while Teal'c just laughs... Genius!

Mitchell and Vala decided to insert themselves into the final scene of "Moebius".

Walter finally gets to go through the gate, and magically shows up in the right outfit.

The one jab that really surprised me was at the very end ten years later when the movie's back on. This is, of course, a reference to the fact that the original creators of the Stargate movie may get to make the sequel they've been wanting to do for years (that completely ignores SG-1 and Atlantis).

I loved those jokes about struggling how to get the actors to appear in the movie, but instead just leaving them out and mentioning them every once in a while, and having them call on the phone. (Obviously a reference to O'Neill, but also to the "Wormhole X-Treme!" actors, too.)

Vala's "Wizard of Oz" parody was a great scene, too. Crash-landing on the planet's Goa'uld ruler, meeting the "friendly Tok'ra," plus the Wizard himself. My only question is... who was the equivalent of the Wicked Witch of the West? Baal? Adria? [Big Grin]

Finally, I got the impression from the last scene in the Gate room itself that the entire deal with the "technical difficulties" was nothing but a practical joke on Mitchell. But hey, who cares? Walter finally got to go through the Gate!

I had successfully kept myself in the dark for this ep, avoiding all commercials like the plague and ignoring this thread.

The one commercial I did see part of was the mountain blowing up, making me think of another Jackson's Magic Mirror episode.

Had I not avoided all the hype of this episode I may not have had the word FLUFF running through my head all the time. Some parts I got a chuckle out of, and I liked the idea Martin didn't know about Farscape.

But Walter's must have already been through the gate. He was offworld with Hammond during the season 7 opener when they attatcked Anubis...

I was actually disappointed in the episode. A few good chuckles and that's about it. Might as well have been a gag reel or outakes episode.

I want Walter to start channelling Radar again...

Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :

Honestly, my favorite moment from the night had to be during the behind the scenes hour. The practical joke they played on RDA when he and Carter were stuck in Antarctica was priceless! Carter: "You spent seven years on MacGyver and you can't figure this one out?! We..We've got belt buckles, shoe laces, and a piece of gum. Build a nuclear reactor for crying out loud! You used to be MacGyver, McGadget, McGimmic! Now you're Mr. McUseless! Dear god! I'm stuck on a glacier with MacGyver!"

I liked it. I had chuckles all over - I mean no wiping the tears from my eyes laughter - except for maybe Thor/Rygel! [Smile] Oh and Thor as the wedding celebrant.

Oh the puppets were good...

Yes, who was the scotty guy supposed to be? Not from one of those internet Trek revivals is he?? I'm only thinking that because they seem to have a set like the original series engineering room.

No live General Hammond and no Janet or even Dr. Lam.

I can't work out which of those DeLuise boys is who... the guy at the end - that was Peter? The one who directs a lot? HE ends up being 'the new guy' for the series? But don't we also seem him as a director back in 'Wormhole X-treme'.

The BEST part of the whole episode was the cut to Teal'c when a 'younger' version was suggested... the 'No, no, no' and then 'just one of the most X-treme (sorry) Teal'c death stares.

Andrew

P.S. Was that Browder TRYING to do an Australian accent?

Typing somthing in the Point of Origin thread about stargates reminded me of an injoke I found funny.

The fact that they were saying the gate should spin... reading wikipedia about stargates the otherday - the Movie gate of course didn't spin and nothing lit up.

They joke about the Furlings - but I think they are going to reveal them still. It's all a furfy - a funny one, though.

ALTHOUGH - thinking about it Carter says "It didn't happen like that" - does that mean that they have already met the Furlings. Well it has to be since we last saw their technology in season 6.

Posted by WizArtist II (Member # 1425) on :

and if they DID meet the Furlings, did they actually end up getting nuked? "It didn't happen like that" sounds kinda like they met the Furlings, and then the Furlings met their fate.

Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :

I thought she said "Well, THAT never happened!"

Ayway, I know this episode shouldn't be taken seriously, but from the end of the episode (set in 2016), we *might* infer that the gate is still secret, and it's business as usual on Earth. But I wouldn't take it as a solid point.

B.J.

Or that the Earth didn't get doinked by the Ori...or the Wraith...or anyone else for that matter. So YAY! The Earth is safe for at least 10 more years.

Scotty's identity, from Wikipedia:

"The engine room, similar in design to that of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series, is manned by a Scottish engineer (played by Brad Wright, co-creator and producer of Stargate SG-1)."

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

His name wasn't across the screen in white letters, that is why we didn't recognize him.

Posted by Mark Nguyen (Member # 469) on :

The production crew of the show often make cameos of themselves for the hell of it. Martin Wood, the director of the episode, shows up as the director of Wormhole X-Treme's 200th episode. Peter Deluise shows up as some sort of background extra in every episode he's directed, but in this one he plays the colourful-languaged replacement for Colonel Danning, who was ironically played by his real-life brother. It is unknown however whether the character he played was supposed to be the same person as the director of the Wormhole X-Treme pilot episode, whom he also played.

Note also that WXT team was using the "real" Stargate field prop in the production, and not the fake-looking one from the last WXT episode. So perhaps the SGC has gone public after all, and WXT is now an historical drama. [Wink]

...Which is about the coolest thing ever, I must say. There ARE quite a few different style there, from flat, to Michael Bay-esque, to making allowances for stuff like puppet strings.
