Holy copout ending, Batman! The staple of hit shows affected by a writer's strike: clips from previous episodes!
That being said, who the hell shot Nathan?! Will Peter make the connection that HIS blood can save Nathan as well?
I loved the showdown twixt Matt and Peter... Once Matt started trying to tell Peter what the think, Peter caught on and threw it right back! And the bit about the virus vial falling... when Peter destroyed it, there was a pile of ash in his hand and the helix appeared... what's up with that?
The other hero offed this week was Nikki, which is still badass even without Jessica/Gina/whoever.
Angela was definately involved in Nathan's shooting... she was probably the one watching the feed. Just what else is there in that vault?
What is Noah up to? Is he really working for the company now?
Sylar's on the rise again... what kind of havoc will he wreak? My bets are that he's going to go after Peter. Sylar would LOVE to be able to absorb powers just by being near someone...

Well I don't how to react to this ending. I thought everything was going smooth until Nathan got shot and Nikki went kaboom. And now that the future has been averted yet again, where the hell is Caitlan? The future she's in no longer exists.
Posted by OnToMars (Member # 621) on :
Maybe the future changed around her, like Jennifer in Back to the Future II.
Peter going through the hallway using all his powers was awesome though.
The helix thing is getting a little ridiculous. I mean seriously, how exactly does whatever force that's manifesting this reveal the shape in ash, and more importantly, why?
No love lost with Nikki, I've been waiting for her to get offed since the beginning. Took long enough. Now New Orleans girl will start looking after Micah and he'll keep convincing her to do the superhero thing, even though she'll resist at first since she basically got Nikki killed.
So that's a nuke and a virus. What's next?
Sylar shot Nathan. It seems pretty clearly him as he's walking away. My guess is that Elle somehow caught the feed and made a deal with Sylar.

Dude, Sylar is in NEW YORK. Nathan, Matt and Peter are in Odessa TEXAS. Sylar can't teleport.
Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :
Especially since he didn't have his powers right then and was all bloody.
Fuck Sylar. Sylar sucks. I'm tired of Sylar.
Jesus Shit, my heart was pounding when Nathan was giving his speech. Then TSEW TSEW!! Maybe I'm stupid, but I did *not* see that coming.
All the heroes fighting each other was pretty cool. And what Hiro did to Adam - shades of Interview with a Vampire there.
And what the ruttin' hell is Angela's power? Now she's transmitting thoughts to Matt? Or was she just thinking 'forcefully' so he'd hear?
Posted by WizArtist II (Member # 1425) on :
I loved the little bit of Sylar trying out his TK again with....A CAN OF SPINACH. Now if he only had a corncob pipe and a squint....
This episode did feel rushed though. They were trying to tie up too many threads on short notice. Hiro definitely has a sadistic streak. We know Adam can regenerate but what happens without oxygen? He will suffocate and die, but will he perpetually revive to suffocate again? THAT would even give Edgar Allen Poe the creeps.
I have this totally baseless feeling that Noah shot Nathan. Either that or yet another of the Dirty Dozen we haven't dealt with yet has made their presence felt.
So is Peter totally unaffected by Hiro's Temporal Pause Button because he has absorbed the power too? I am also surprised that Adam didn't give Hiro a slice of vengeance when he had the perfect opportunity. And WHY didn't the writers keep Maya DEAD. She is without doubt the most annoying character in the show. She even makes Claire look extremely intelligent.
Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :
Yeah Maya and Alejandro were nothing but MacGuffins whose only purpose was to allow Sylar to travel back to the U.S.
And don't be talkin no shit about Sylar. He can't help it if he's placed into a shitty storyline. Besides he might form the Heroes equivalent of the Legion of Doom.
Posted by Mark Nguyen (Member # 469) on :
I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Adam. He ought to suffocate, but he might regenerate and awake anyway. He'd then take a very long, and very bloody time to claw his way out of that hole. And when he does, he is gonna be maaaaaaaaad... Hiro is sticking to his character in being unable to actually kill Adam - I wonder if he'd been able to do it if Peter wasn't there to stop him from trying. Were he SMART, he might have dropped Adam in a volcano's ejecta or into a rockslide or something, where he'd be much more permanently buried. But Hiro's got his own poetry too.
Nikki dying is unfortunate, but I also got a semi-meh from it. She had a good story last year, but it was more or less concluded, and she wasn't really given anthing to do. However, I'm fairly certain she isn't quite dead either. Remarkably few people in this show have managed to STAY dead, and there are many comic-bookey ways for her to survive, so I doubt we've seen the last of her or her well-acted but otherwise bland story.
So, Angela P. has no powers? This season seems to show that the 30 years-past gang had as many norms as it did mutants (yeah, I said mutants). Hiro's dad apparently had none, and nor did Victoria Pratt. Bob, Linderman, Matt's dad, and Adam did. I wonder if it skips a generation in some after all.

What's to say that Angela and Kaito have no powers? I reckon they do, but they're just not powers that would have been useful in the scenes we've seen them in, so we never saw them used. Just like with Bob, if he hadn't shown off his Midas power that one time then we never would have known he had one, despite the fact that he's been in virtually every episode this season. It's just not been useful.
I also think Niki could be coming back, particularly since she sort of died off screen. I was a bit confused though, why did Mohinder look intensely at the vial that came out of his bag and think of her? Did she get Adam or Claire's super blood when Mo injected her with the virus a few episodes back?
Come to think of it, I don't think any of the people offed in this episode will stay dead. Which is a bit lame. They could have at least got rid of Maya.
Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :
"...why did Mohinder look intensely at the vial that came out of his bag and think of her?"
Because he was taking that blood to Niki to cure her of the virus.
"I have this totally baseless feeling that Noah shot Nathan."
How do you figure "baseless"? It's the same assumption I made. The shooter was the right build to be Noah. And he did say that he made a "deal" with the Company, with the implication that it probably wasn't something he was going to enjoy.
Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :
It was said either in one of the episodes or one of the graphic novels, explicitly, that every member of the Twelve founders had an ability.
Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :
Then Pa Petrelli must have manifested well into his later years. He was quite disturbed by Linderman having a power, to the point of calling him a freak. And when they met up later on there was no mention of a power either.

Well I call it 'baseless' because other than it feels like a twist the story would take and with just that brief glimpse of someone in a long coat with short hair walking off, I really can't point to any solid evidence.
Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :
Jessica manifested rather late in life too - at least as old as Pa Petrelli was in Vietnam, and maybe/probably older. Same for Matt.

Did anyone else find the persistent use of a split focus somewhat distracting, or am I imagining things?
Posted by Mark Nguyen (Member # 469) on :
Yes. I felt like I was watching 1970s movie making technique, or Star Trek TMP all over again.
However, I can understand the creative reason this was done. Whenever I see the split-focus thing, it looks to me like a comic panel with people in the fore and background, both in perfect focus. I think this was the intent.

No, I found it irritating. Wondered if it might have some significance, then quickly forgot about that and just wanted it to stop.

OMG! Amazing! I didn't realise that this was the end of the 'season'.
Then things started wrapping up and I guessed it might be.
Yes so questions:
Yes, what is up with the symbol on Peter? The only other person we've seen have a symbol appear is Jessica - not Nikki (remember she was covering it up with make-up in season 1).
Who shot Nathan - I thought it was probably Noah but then it cuts to Angela wearing black - possibly she shot her own son?
Why is Pandora's box open? Nathan didn't manage to say what his ability was.
Oh another reason why it could have been Angela... one of the main people we've seen that can withstand Parkman - and wasn't he making EVERYONE listen to him?
Will the virus still happen? Even though Peter nuked it - it's possible the powder could have some viral particles still in it - and Nikki is supposed to have the virus - is it possible she could spread it - Sylar too?
ALSO anyone notice the vault - all those nick-knacks?
A set of cards, a brain, a trojan horse and a dagger. This dagger is also a dagger that "The Nightingale" is wielding on the front cover of Micha's comic.
Also - growing powers... so far we've only really seen Matt's powers 'grow' (not counting Sylar or Peter)... I asked this last episode - but can you see any other's powers 'developing' as they get a handle on them? I mean what else would Hero be able to do? What about Molly, or West and Nathan?
What happened between Nathan and Matt on their trip to Odessa? How FAST can Nathan fly?

Whatever the intent, the result was that it drew attention to itself. Possibly due to poor framing and giving actors too little space in which to act without half their face going out of focus.
quote:Yes, what is up with the symbol on Peter? The only other person we've seen have a symbol appear is Jessica - not Nikki (remember she was covering it up with make-up in season 1).
We've seen it on Molly too when Matt's father locked her mind away.
quote:Why is Pandora's box open? Nathan didn't manage to say what his ability was.
Possibly referring to what Peter is going to do next.
quote:Will the virus still happen? Even though Peter nuked it - it's possible the powder could have some viral particles still in it - and Nikki is supposed to have the virus - is it possible she could spread it - Sylar too?
Nothing living, especially microbial life can survive being thoroughly irradiated. How Peter's hands survive it is another question.
quote:ALSO anyone notice the vault - all those nick-knacks? A set of cards, a brain, a trojan horse and a dagger. This dagger is also a dagger that "The Nightingale" is wielding on the front cover of Micha's comic.
Yes, that instantly put me in mind of the trophies in the Batcave. Here's an idea, was that Nightingale comic a 9th Wonders? If so perhaps Issac has some posthumous predictions left in him yet.
quote:Also - growing powers... so far we've only really seen Matt's powers 'grow' (not counting Sylar or Peter)... We've seen Hiro get a much better handle on what he can do, Micha also seams to be more proficient and they both seam to require less visible concentration. Remember when Hiro used to practically burst a blood vessel trying to concentrate on stopping time. Then of course there's Maya.
Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :
Micha also made the light turn green without having to touch it.
I'll point out also that viruses aren't alive, but their RNA certainly wouldn't survive that much radiation.
Angela couldn't have done it; she was watching a live feed of the event in some other location.

A side note, but this is sort of backwards. I sure hope at least something killed in this episode stays dead, though. (Maybe not Nathan, because that actor is OK.)
Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

But he was touching the phone and so could probably access any system connected to a phone line or even a closed wireless system if he's able to modulate the frequencies. Assuming he can access a satellite's systems remotely, range isn't even an issue.
That's a scary thought, Micha potentially has the power to start WWIII, crash jets, blackout whole cities bankrupt major corporations and dig up dirt on just about anyone.
Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :
We don't know Angela's power. She was watching a TV - so maybe it was a later news event.
For all we know it was a future Hiro or Peter Patrelli?
Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :
Maybe Hiro - but I doubt Peter would kill his own brother. I mean, all it took were a few words about how he believed in him to make Peter just suddenly decide Adam was a bad guy.

Yah. The Vietnam people were all like 18.

What will happen to the Primatech Paper Company. After that little event I don't think The Company can maintain that front anymore. Maybe they'll resurface as some other business.
Posted by HerbShrump (Member # 1230) on :
Ma Patrelli didn't kill Nathan. Someone called her on the phone to report that he'd been killed and the reason why. Ma Patrelli replied "yes, I understand. You do know you opened Pandora's box now..."
If Ma Patrelli killed Nathan, then that phone conversation was pointless.
Someone else killed him. My suspicion is Noah because of the deal he made with The Company.
Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :
Or maybe an entirely new character killed him.
Posted by Johnny (Member # 878) on :
I think Noah is too obvious. It's probably what the writers want us to think.
Remember back at the beginning of season 2 when they tried to make us think it was Nathan who was killing the oldies only for it to turn out to be someone completely different?

"Will the virus still happen? Even though Peter nuked it - it's possible the powder could have some viral particles still in it - and Nikki is supposed to have the virus - is it possible she could spread it - Sylar too?"
Niki and Sylar had a different strain of the virus. Not the kill-everyone version. I think Niki said it wasn't even contagious, but who knows how true that was?
Another reason why Angela Petrelli couldn't be the assassin : Unless her power is shape-shifting, she was not the behatted fellow who walked away from the shooting.
This weird camera focus thing everyone seems to hate... Was that the reason, every once in a while, the edges of the screen went all blurry? Because that's what I noticed about it. I wondered what they were trying to do.

Nikki, Monica, Peter, Nathan, Isaac, and Matt were over 18, though, when they manifested, so I don't think it's necessarily age-related.

Not to mention that Claire was about sixteen, and Elle has apparently had her powers since she was a child.

Oh, I LOVE that effect. They use some sort of split focus lens so they can have a close up and a long shot with everything else out of focus. I think it looks really stylish, though it can be overused.
Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :
What got on my nerves is that in one scene (forget which) the person in the foreground (either Noah or Bob I think) turned their head and their nose and half their face went completely out of focus.
I don't have a problem with it's frequent use, but when it's poorly used like that it gets distracting and if I'm even noticing things like that then I can;t be paying as much attention to the story as I should and that is a problem in itself.
P.S. Anyone notice that Bob's password was Midas?
Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :
I noticed. *smacks forehead* Did you catch his username? Maybe that's the thing for PrimaTech Paper's website.
Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :
You know I'm still wondering about the things in that vault.
Edit after disjointed edit...about Pa Petrelli and his power and manifestation...what if it was a power he didn't notice at first? I was poking round the wiki, and some fans think his power might have had something to do with probability. It was mentioned in the graphic novel that he was extremely lucky at cards; there are also 3 playing cards in the Vault.
Further: The brain being kept there is theorized by some to be the brain of some Hero whose power the Company wants. They might have been keeping Sylar alive in order to have him extract the power, or to have Peter, who they had captured for awhile, to absorb his 'intuitive aptitude' and extract the power.
