Felt my first earthquake ever. I was in class here at OSU when I noticed that I seemed to be shaking. At first I thought it was me but I didn't feel sick or anything. After class let out I talked to some people and found out that a 7.0 earthquake had happend near seattle which is around 300 miles away. Neat to say the least.

I know Simon and Liz (Sol System and LOA, that is) both live within 300 miles of Seattle. I think we have a couple people here from Seattle itself, but I don't know who they are offhand...

My God, LOA, my condolences for your friend.

I've checked news sources. Only injuries, no fatalities yet.

Glad you're still typing, LOA. Sol is probably a bit dazed, but ok too....

No more so than usual. Though I live closer (by about three hours, I think) to King County than LOA, I didn't really feel a thing. I was heading out to my car at the time. However, apparently, there was some shaking witnessed, including a set of hanging plants which, uh, shook. So those of you urgently praying for my demise will have to wait another day!

Er...unless this quake destabilized the chain of active volcanos I live spitting distance from, in which case I will be buried under a mountain of ash and rock and ash and more ash. But that doesn't appear to be the case.

As a member of the Southern California contingent, let me first of all welcome you to the club of those who have been quaked.

It's not really a select club...there are literaly millions of us already initiated...but now you get a hat and a little blue button to wear. Those you will get in the mail from the home office 6-8 weeks after they process your application. Although anyone 300 miles away from the epicenter may have to get two letters of recomendation from previously quaked people. I could get one for you, maybe Ziyal could get the other.

A 6.8 (from the reports I've heard) is pretty big. But listening to the same reports it seems that all that retrofitting money went to good use. Believe me, this is of great discussion here in Los Angeles because we just sit around sometimes waiting for a big quake to hit.

We in Southern California feel for you in the great Northwest...and wish you all the best.

Remember, get under those doors, desks or other sturdy object, make sure there isn't a gas leak in or about the abode, and please try not to panic.
