As I post this, it's 3:18 p.m. and it feels like twilight is setting in.

The sky has the feel of heavy cloud cover, but it ain't rain or clouds, it's smoke. The sky to the east of my house is darkening, it basicly looks like a storm is gathering in that direction.

And I don't live anywhere near the fires.

I've lived here a lot of years, and I've seen a great many fires, but these may be some of the worst. In terms of homes lost from Simi Valley to Big Bear to San Diego, it's going to be devastating.

Yesterday, California State University Northridge had to close due to the smoke in the air from the Simi Valley fire. Today, the campus opened but with a very minimal amount of students showing up for class. It was very crappy yesterday and for the remainder of the year.

I heard someone on the news mention arson. That would be really lame.

Wow, you people in the mainland have a lot of brushfires don't you? The last one that was in Hawaii was around 1983. WAY before my time.

Are you lod enough to use the internet without supervision then???

I've been near a couple of forest fires in northern MI, but nothing as bad as the ones out west....

I heard that one of these fires was started by a guy lighting a signal fire to get his lost self rescued, and now they are persueing arson charges against him.... Like charging people that get lost in the wilderness to be rescued, first time, okay, after that you should have learned....
