In the conversation between VP Gore and Gov George Bush on the matter of retracting the concession, the governor of Texas told the VP that his brother had assured him that his win in Florida was a done deal.

What could this mean?

In Florida, we are receiving confirmed reports that ballots were illegal (punch holes for Buchanan were to left of name, not right as stated in law); voters, both black, hispanic, and white, turned away at the polling booths; and so on. Could this be part of the done deal?

Personaly, yes, I agree that something is "rotten in Denmark" er, Florida.

Regardless of whether or not Jeb actually helped his brother or not, I don't think either of them will live this down ...

*You're* the self proclaimed speaker of the dead, why don't you tell us?

I think dead Democrats have the same right as dead Republicans to come back from the grave and vote. Its a basic human right!

No we aren't. Go check the laws yourself. Omega even was courteous enough to post it for you in another thread. Don't simply kowtow to what the Dem. talking heads are saying. at this point, they'd say the moon was made of spam if it would get Gore elected.

"voters, both black, hispanic, and white, turned away at the polling booths; and so on. Could this be part of the done deal?"

It's far more likely, since the majority of those turned away were new immigrants, (haitians, etc.), that there's a law about you having to be REGISTERED to vote in Florida, like there is in Pennsylvania and virtualy everywhere else, and that they weren't. (See, busing in people who normaly wouldn't vote doesn't ALWAYS work for the Demoncrats.)

Don't you dare drag my title into this, JeffKardde... If you understand the reference of it, then you would know it has nothing to do with this discussion.

Read Orson Scott Card's Ender Series, and then you'll know.

Er, I think JeffK was making an amusing little quip there. No need to bite his head off.

JeffR,

The flameboard seems particularly hot these days, so I was just trying to bring in some humor ... that's all. No offense intended.

I did read the series, believe it or not ... well, actually I only read "Ender's Game", but I read part of "Speaker of the Dead" ... it didn't really *grab* me the way the first book did, so I put it down and still haven't picked it up again (its about here somewhere).

If you want to talk about dead people voting, just look at the 1960 presidential election. Besides enlisting the mafia's help to rig the vote, a large number of long dead democrats mysteriously voted for Kennedy and Johnson, perhaps enough to swing the election.

Hmmmm.... I wonder how that happened? Do you think Daddy Kennedy the bootlegger called in a few favors? Or, did "Landslide Lyndon" just do what he normally did around election time? Despite this, at least Nixon had the class to bow out gracefully and not put the country through electoral Hell by demanding multiple recounts.

For the record, I voted for neither Bush nor Gore. I just find Gore's behavior particularly childish and amusing.

Well, whatever the case, JFK was helped by mayor Daley, of Chicago, the father of the man who you see on TV working for Gore. I find that a little suspicious, personally, but we'll see...

They didn't have to call in favors, the dead have been voteing in West Virginia since the state formed.I think the dead voters outnumber the living voters in Mingo county. West Virginia put JFK over in '60.

Constellation,

Gore's behavior will become childish if he loses Florida and doesn't concede when the recount/absentee ballots are figured out by Nov. 17th.

In the meantime, why does GWB want to stop a manual recount? What's the big friggin deal?

However my dear Omega, you seem to have argued long and hard before that the sins of the father or past generations should not be revisited on the son or current generation.

Peace out.

Well, that was actually intended as a little joke, not that the situations are really analogous in the first place.

As for Bush wanting to stop a hand recount, I'd stop it because it gives that much more chance that someone will do some, shall we say, creative counting.
