...or not.

Where conspiracies never die

George W.'s Missing Year

quote:
The initial page I examined is a chronological listing of Bush's service record. This document charts active duty days served from the time of his enlistment. His first year, a period of extensive training, young Bush is credited with serving 226 days. In his second year in the Guard, Bush is shown to have logged a total of 313 days. After Bush got his wings in June 1970 until May 1971, he is credited with a total of 46 days of active duty. From May 1971 to May 1972, he logged 22 days of active duty.

Then something happened. From May 1, 1972 until April 30, 1973 -- a period of twelve months -- there are no days shown, though Bush should have logged at least thirty-six days service (a weekend per month in addition to two weeks at camp).

I found out that for the first four months of this time period, when Bush was working on the U..S Senate campaign of Winton Blount in Alabama, that he did not have orders to be at any unit anywhere.

AND

quote:
As an "obligated reservist," Bush was ineligible to serve his time in what amounted to a paper unit with few responsibilities. As the unit's leader, Lieutenant Colonel Bricken recently explained to the Boston Globe, "We met just one weeknight a month. We were only a postal unit. We had no airplanes. We had no pilots. We had no nothing."

Double U working to keep Charlie out of Texas and Alabama must have been a sight...at least when he showed up.

I'm not sure I see the point. Clinton hid in England during the Vietnam War. Gore was just a reporter, and wasn't that after her ran away to Canada and got dragged back by his parents?

If they kept themselves alive, more power to 'em. Hooray for draft dodging! And that's not sarcasm. :-)

The only point that I want to make is that that Herr Double U isn't all that he has painted himself to be.

Well, when the Republican Party slams Bill Clinton for dodging draft, and brushes over Dubya's playing hookey, it kinds of hypocritical.

I don't really have a problem with Dubya playing "hookey" like this. Just as I don't have a problem with Bill Clinton protesting the war and dodging the draft.

Okay, maybe I do have a bit of a problem with Dubya wasting the tax payer's dollars by skipping out on his time obligated after being taught to fly fighters, but it's not a real big thing. I think he should've been honest about what he was doing, and not using it as a shield to hide from not actually serving in Vietnam, but it's really a non-issue ...

And it essentially means we've got two draft-dodgers in a row in office.

Well, given Gore's history, (Canada, then cushy photog's job) we pretty much would have had that in any case.

Unless we'd all voted for Dole back in '96.

I've no problem w/ that. If they ever reinstate the draft, the Canadians can expect me to make a prolonged visit to their fine nation... :-)

So I guess from what I'm hearing...or not hearing...Double U's actions are indefensible.

Hmm.

I just think now the Republicans look kinda foolish harping on Clinton's actions during Vietnam during the time period ... so, hey, that's always good enough for me

It's okay. Looks like we'll get Clinton on the Rich pardon anyway.

Didja hear they say Jessie J.'s got another love child? And another report is coming out about a THIRD woman?

No wonder Rainbow/PUSH took in 12 million, but only spent 47 thousand on education.

Jesse should have taken his own advice (and poor english skills): "stay out the bushes!"

From what I understand -- and I'm not defending anything here, just what I heard on CNN -- is that the evidence that could be used to prove that Rich paid Clinton to pardon him is largely circumstancial, and while it can be proven, it's extremely difficult (if not impossible) to prove.

So pretty much, Billy-boy just handed the Republicans another thing to bad-mouth him about while also keeping himself clear of any legal actions regarding the matter.

At least, according to CNN.

Have you ever noted the way Clinton talks his way around certain questions? Especially lately?

Very often, when accused of wrongdoing, he says:
"I don't believe there's any evidence of that."
"I don't think they'll find any evidence of wrongdoing"
"There's no evidence that I did anything wrong."

rather than "I didn't do anything wrong" or "I didn't do this." or even "I deny this."

Ever wonder why?

Certain semanticists I know seem to believe that what's going on here is a subtle turn of phrase: Clinton isn't SAYING he didn't DO it, he's just saying they won't find EVIDENCE that he did it, and covering himself against a lying charge just in case they do.

Crafty lawyerspeak, no?

Of course, this may show simply that he's learned since "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" to be a bit more circumspect.
