Ok, there haven't been any new topics posted in the DS9 forum for a while so here's a question I've been wondering about.

When Starfleet and the Klingons abandoned DS9 to the Cardassians and Dominion, we see the Defiant and the Rotarin blast their way through a bunch of Dominion ships and cloak. Unfortunately, not a Runabout is to be seen. I doubt they would have fit on the Defiant, not that she was available to load. Then when Starfleet got back, the Runabouts are still there.

Should we believe that A) Sisko would leave at least 3 Federation starships sitting on a Dominion outpost and that B) Dukat and Weyoun would just leave them sit there?

Maybe they were used in the station evacuation before the battle and then stayed on Bajor.

That's a thought. Is there anything in that episode that would suggest they began the evac before the Defiant departed? I suppose the Runabouts couldv'e been used to evac the remaining civilian personel.

You mean apart from the fact that all the Bajoran officers, plus the civilians had been evacuated to Bajor by the time Kira walks into Ops and 'protests' Sisko's actions?

Well, I think Ron Moore commented it was their intention to use the runabouts to transfer Bajorans to Bajor and presumably stay there.

Um, weren't scenes of people piling onto runabouts shown in the episode? I thought I remembered them.

When Worf and Jadzia have their little moment, you mean? That was the Defiant... There was a scene of Bajoran impulse ships docking at the station...

No, not that one. I'm thinking of another, but I think maybe various scenes are blending into each other in my memory.

*Screws with Sol's memory some more*

What about the evacuation scenes from 'The Reckoning'?
I recall the scene where Odo and Worf are evecuating civvies onto the runabouts, and an external view later on showing the three runabouts leaving the station.

And that shot in 'A Call to Arms' with Worf and Dax's "moment" had a Sydney-class transport hatch behind them .

Whatever was done, I don't think they would leave them behind. To easy to hook up weapons to a Runabout. Since Bajor was supposed to be neutral, I think the Runabouts would have moved on with the Federation.

Ah, not necessarily!

It depends on whose command the runabouts were really under. If we just say they belong to Sisko, then yeah, the Dominion might be able to go grab them from Bajor. But, if we say they are part of the station, then they become Bajoran property and therefore protected under Bajor's treaty with the Dominion. See? I should become an interstellar lawyer.

I think the safest thing to say is that they stayed on Bajor after being used for evac. The Dominion probably didn't bother with them and risk upsetting the Bajorans. It's unlikely the Fed would have been allowed to pick them up.

Like the Defiant, the runabouts were always Starfleet property. They do have Starfleet regos, after all.

*plays devil's advocate*

Sol: But the Dominion occupied Terok Nor, so why not the runabouts?
