A guy emailed me stating I'd missed the USS Jupiter off my list for Akira Class vessels.
I said "what"?
I'd never heard of this ship. His explanation, and tale, goes as follows:

No not canon. Unless it was on TV it's not canon. Unless there's a new rule I haven't heard. However the USS Juipter is a Akira class CCG card they put inside the ST: Armada. I liked it back in the day when I collected the cards.

Paramount has a hand in anything with the words "Star Trek" written on it, more or less, but there concerns are almost entirely limited to "Don't put boobies in it!" rather than vetting each ship for appropriate canonocity.

I really doubt that the Jupiter showed up anywhere aside from the two games. Just because Paramount wants to make things sound "official" doesn't make them canon. Their idea of "official" is just to make it sound more important to drooling, unintelligent fanboys than unfortunately give the rest of us Treknologists a bad name.

Paramount had direct contact with Activision regaurding Armada and Armada 2. Foundation Imaging models were used, and 'official' information was used in the game. If Activision had its way, Armada technologies/timelines would be canon. They are very proud of that series.
I think we need three catagories.
Canon - Movies, Television (excludes TAS) Offical - Paramount-related and canon
Fan Universe - The third of course would be fan created materials, novels and such.
Sounds good to me. Yep. This is the new system. i formally declare it.

I have a screencap of the Jupiter, if anyone wants to see it.
AFAIK, every Akira class ship seen in FC, DS9, and Voyager was labeled "U.S.S. Thunderchild." If the original Foundation model was used, I don't know if this affected what we saw on screen. When was this game made?

What about those we saw on DS9's 'Tears of the Prophets'? I heard the tale (and it isn't more than that) that the Akira drifting through the scene after the platforms are activated was the Trotzky. Like I said, a tale after the first airing of the show, but combined with the fact that most of those vessels had names it was a powerful one.
As for the Jupiter, the ship (and another one, can't remember the name) were Enterprise's escort in the first mission. I don't think they ever mentioned the vessel's name, but since that name was one of the possible names for newly built Akiras, it was absolutely possible you got the ship several times during the game, maybe even several times in a mission if the old Jupiter was destroyed.
I have the card, and if I remember correctly it also said the ship was commanded by a Captain Satek or Satelk or something and was the first vessel with a chain reaction pulsar weapon. Since this was the standard special weapon upgrade of all Akiras, it's as stupid. I really don't know why the ship was featured so prominently on that card (and the CCG trailer on the CD, which had a short CGI-video sequence with that ship, too) allthough it was olny one of many vessels in the game.

Federation starship, Akira-class strike cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-71627. Commanded by Captain Satelk, the Jupiter is the first vessel to be fitted with an experimental chain-pulsar weapons system. In 2376 the Jupiter helped the starship Enterprise defend the timeship Premonition from a Borg attack.("Armada" [Interplay]). The Jupiter is one of the supporting starships in the video game, and has been featured in a multimedia tie-in in the form of the Decipher Star Trek CCG as a special Akira-class chase card.
I'm assuming that'd be the captain Satelk featured in TNG "The first duty"

I thought he was the head of an Academy department (in other words a 'soon-to-be-promoted-to-admiral'-ish assignment)?
(BTW, A1 is from Activision, the guys later formed their own developement team, Mad Doc, for A2)

maybe he is just a 'career captain' killing time at the academy til he can get another assignment.. who knows, maybe thats what Johnny Picard did for nine years until the 1701-D came along..
i've fixed the mistake in the Galactopedia, but i cant edit that post so it remains forever as a testament to my rsearch process.
