Ok, I need to ask a question about the schematic I have produced to show Niagara Class. I didn't paticularly like the schemtic that has been circulating, so I produced one a little more stylized. My question is should I change it to more closely match the one provided by the Fact Files?
Oh, the picture is in a Flash movie, so only those with shockwave can view it. http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Stargate/9268/niagaratac.html

My next question is there any other ships of this class other than the Princeton and Wellington?

Well, yes, there's at least one other: the USS Niagara...

As for your first question, it depends. Do you care if your ship looks like the real thing from the show? If so, you might want to change it. But, if you don't care, I'm sure you can do whatever you want.

I don't have Shockwave, and no thanks, I don't want one - but under "specifications" you have a simple side view. You seem to have stretched the phaser arrays quite a bit. Too bad - I always liked the idea that some ships could make do with a bit less of phaser length than the big Enterprises have.

And I do like the overall Niagara design, too! How could one verify that the model in "Best of Both Worlds" really looked like that, though, and isn't just fancy imagination and artistic license by the artist...? Is there any contact info in the Fact Files, say, Larry Nemecek's email or something?

I like the website layout and function alot, but I can't say I much like the ship design. I don't really care for the megomungus nacelles or the big nacelles struts.

I can't view it either, although I thought it was included in Netscape 4.5.

I can tell what's wrong with Shockwave: the same as with all other plug-ins that have to be installed separately, work more or less well for about half a year until you have to upgrade it because everyone's using a new version.

Three years ago, Netscape 3 provided access to 100% of all pages. Pure HTML, few overhead, fast loading and browsing with a Pentium I possible. Just how I liked it.

I'm using the overloaded Netscape 4.5 only occasionally, it provides access to about 95% of all web content and is darn slow. Why should I care about countless additional features I will need every few months, if at all? Every time I visit the Netscape homepage I find another 20 new plug-ins one *must* have. Agreed, Shockwave is common, but not common enough to install it (and risk system damage, I'm using Windows) just to view one page.

I'm mostly using Netscape 3, fast and efficient. This excludes me from about 20% of all content, the most important reason being that everyone's using new HTML and JS versions for no obvious reason. On the other hand, with JS disabled, there are no pop-ups. Try it, it's surfer's heaven. ;-)

NIAGARA! where have you been? Thanks for the tip TSN. I will keep that under advisement for when I get around to updating the class.
Timo: I hadn't thought about it that way, but I believe I will also make that correction. I also added a few arrays where I thought they would be needed..Lol
Aban Rune: I agree with you entirely, but I wouldn't just do away with the huge nacelles I'd destroy the whole class.
Bernd: This is for you,but the file is kind of huge, so it may take a little time. Rip away!I think I can take it (snivels covering his eyes) http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Stargate/9268/niagara.jpg

Bernd: I often turn of JS while visiting sites with,uh, an adult persuasion. And you're right, it's fun with no pop-ups.

Postscript: I am Joking.

And about the Niagra, I think it looks good, even though I don't particularly like that Niagra concept.

bear: Thanks for posting the image especially for me. A stupid question: Is there any difference between the normal Shockwave Flash which should be included in Netscape 4 and Flash movies?

AFAIK, the Fact Files don't say anything about the ship's size.

I just wanted to measure the size and found that it's not necessary. The length should be exactly the same as of the Freedom (coincidence or laziness of the artist?):
http://www.uni-siegen.de/~ihe/bs/startrek/schematics/niagara-official.jpg
http://www.uni-siegen.de/~ihe/bs/startrek/schematics/freedom.jpg

In case the nacelles are of the same size as the Galaxy's, both ships would be 430m. Your version would be a few meters longer. The window spacing in the saucer roughly supports this, while the windows in the neck and the engineering hull, respectively, give us only about half the size. This is why there is a theory that the nacelles are actually smaller, the same type as on the New Orleans. This nacelle type, however, is prolonged and has therefore different proportions than depicted:
http://www.uni-siegen.de/~ihe/bs/startrek/schematics/neworleans.htm

So, if we trust the schematic, there would have to be another scaled-down version of the Galaxy nacelles. However, I tend to support the theory of a larger ship, after all there is definitely a bridge module on the Freedom which alone has the depicted three decks.

Bernd: While I don't really care for either the Freedom or the Niagara designs you posted, the rederings are killer!! Are they yours? If so, what program did you use to render them in?

Also, can you tell me the address of the Fact Files?

I think those rederings are from the Fact Files are they not!?!

We have to get some physical evidence of these two ships... we just have to - I think we should scour the internet - or mainly the newsgroups continually pleading with Okuda/Sternbach/Nemecek to give us some details...

I think that saucer section is an Ambassador saucer section - but the artist just made it a lil different!?!

Bernd: Shockwave is the plug-in that all flash movies should run on. I visited Macromedia about a week ago, and they are also providing something called a flash player. I have been regularly downloading flash player to view my page on university computers, so I really don't know the difference between Flash player and shockwave. Netscape 4.7 I believe also contains a built in shockwave plug-in, but I could be wrong.
