...or God is about to pull a very nasty prank on me. Of the two, I hope it's the first option. I'm still in a bit of shock over this; it all happened so suddenly. I've had to sit down and read through my ICQ history several times to make sure that it happened. It looks like it has.

Ladies and Gentleman:
Siegfried is going on a date!

Yes! I'm finally going to get to go on my first date ever with a living, breathing, sober woman next Wednesday, February 13th. I'm going on a date. I'm actually going on a date. I'm so excited that I can hardly contain myself at the moment! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Remember to shower first. And don't be too eager. [Wink]

Don't forget what Ben Stiller did in "Something about Mary" before his date. You want to be ready for anything.
Good Luck

The Day before Valentine's Day? Hmmmm......

First Omega, and now Siegfried. Will wonders ever cease?

Damn. Even Siegfried beat me...

Well, since Siggy hasn't volunteered it, and since others aren't asking ...

Who is she?
Where and how did you meet?
How did you come to ask her out (or vice-versa)?
Where are you going?
What type of interogation do you expect from family members following this date?

Hell hasn't frozen over. I know this because things aren't working well with me and Leanne. Actually they are. For fear of going all Barcalow here, I gotta say I hate when girls like you only as a friend. Not that my situation is anything like the Major's

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Interogation by her family members? On a first date? Heh...sorry, I wouldn't put up with any of that. I would suggest avoiding any sort of interogation from the 'rents if at all possible until there's actually something to be interogated about. One date does not a relationship make, and in my experience, far too few parents get that :0)

But yes...congrats. Be respectful, don't try to kiss her, and for the love of Pete, open the door for her [Smile]

That's all I've got. [Smile]

Tahna, actually it's a fluke that we're going out on the day before Valentine's Day. I'm actually thankful for that since I depise Valentine's Day with a molten passion (see my signature, for instance). Plus, there isn't any "pressure" being induced by the stigma.

And here are the answers to Jeff's questions (before an Interrogation of Siegfried starts up):

Her name is Farah.

She and I attend the same college and share the same major. I was introduced to her about four years through a mutual friend of ours during a floor gathering for Star Trek Consumation Night. We've been friends ever since and have alwats had a flirting and teasing thing going on.

I asked her out on the date, but it wasn't my intention. She asked me for a favor, and (as is my standard response with her) I told her I'd do if she'd go out on a date with me. To my surprise she accepted.

The plan so far is to meet her at school and go out to dinner. Seeing a movie is not out of the equation, and neither has an evening walk through some of the more picturesque parts of the city. Yes, Houston actually has some nice places in it.

As far as family interrogations go, I'm probably not going to share a whole lot. I've always been very private about my love life with the family, but I'm at the least going to tell them that I am going on a date. My grandmother won't be too happy, though, she still considers me her upstanding Catholic grandson and probably wouldn't approve too much of me going on a date with an upstanding Muslim woman. As for Farah's family, they are not going to be told. They strongly disapprove of her dating (period) and would probably wouldn't be thrilled with her going on a date with me.

Aban, I know all about chivalry on the date. I pull out her chair, open the doors for her, throw my coat over puddles, no kissing on a first date, etc.

I was just kidding, Siegfried. Didn't mean to be offensive. You'd be surprised how many winners there out there who apparently don't know how to do all that stuff though...

Good luck, and have fun!

I can understand The Pompatus of Love getting a date, it was only a matter of time, but OMEGA??
Omega's date must have been Bush repulican.

Yay! Good luck, Ziggy!

And, um, Tahna... me? When did I go on a date? Perhaps you didn't read the latter part of the thread I posted a year ago. [Wink]

Aban, know offense was taken. [Smile]

Farah may very well be a fiery sex kitten, but I will never know if it's true nor will she know herself until she's married.

And, Ziyal, yes, I know what it sounds like. I didn't name our Trek nights together, so I don't have to take responsibility for it. However, there were a few instances of male posterior nudity and women discussing doing it "froggy style," so the name does kinda make sense.

Kosh, you're close. I don't know if Omega revealed the politics of the woman he was pursuing, but she was the daughter of the his youth minister.

As for pictures, here's the best one I have of her from our road trip to Texas A&M three years ago. She's the one of the far right holding the gun: http://pompatus.virtualave.net/pictures/roadtrip1.jpg

Hell must have frozen over, because my home network is working on my laptop computer, and this guy is going on a date. Ya sure this woman isn't just a sentient Antonio Benderas blow-up doll?

Posted by Tahna Los (Member # 33) on :

Maybe he is and he ain't telling us.

I've been dating my girlfriend for more than 4 years now. Very few of my friends and family have actually seen her. In fact, some of them are wondering if I am schizophrenic like that John Nash guy in A Beautiful mind.....

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

She isn't an Antonio Banderas blowup doll. For one thing, she's shorter than Antonio and a lot cuter. [Smile]

There might be pictures if she agrees to me bringing a camera along. She's rather afraid of me having a camera, so it may not be likely.

The shortness this is a matter of taste, but I sure hope she is cuter than Antonio.

It is nice that she met you at a Star Trek thing cause these things are hard to explain to the unbelievers. My wife still doesn't get it after 19 years.

P.S. you going to show her this thread someday if things work out?

Preacher. And I wasn't purusing her, as such. Far more complex.

Perhaps a section of hell has experienced a temperature depreciation, but I'd say the majority is still burning as well as ever. My most recent snowball demonstrated that it stood the traditional chance, after all.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Grokca, I'll be showing Farah this thread, but I really don't think that things are going to work out for the long haul. We're not really looking for something romantic to come of this, we're just kinda trying it out and, most importantly, to have fun. I'd be extremely overjoyed if things did work out because she's a really cool, neat, and wonderful woman. I also realize, though, that it isn't an undertone of romance between the two of us (at least at the moment). In short, who knows what'll happen? I'm not expecting much except to have fun with a great lady. [Smile]

[Eek!] She's cute alright, good for you, Siegfried.

That is the BEST fuckin' way, Siegster. After my last ex, I dcedided "no more high-maintenance women!" Now...I have a low-maintenance one. And things are INfinitely better. No worries about "where is this relationship going," no "you never buy me things," no "we're so different." Just...laidback & smooth. Werd.

Very cute girl Sieg, but I think I'd leave the camera at home the first time out. Unless you are going sight seeing, like to the Alamo.

[Cool]

That sounds more like a problem w/ the person than the relationship. Try finding someone who's simply not disturbingly materialistic.

It was a fun outing. We were going to a Tex-Mex place called Chuy's (of Bush Twins fame, though not the branch they were busted at), but the place was packed. We wound up going to The House of Pies instead. We were there a good couple hours chatting it up about classes, friends, family, politics, sexual harrasment, career goals, hobbies, etc. After that, we went out to visit the WaterWall near the building I work in.

All in all, it was a fun date. I don't think anything serious will become of this, but that doesn't matter to me right now. I had a blast, and I'm happy. [Smile]

"VD, is for everybody"

Hadn't thought of that in years.

Oh, my fiance gave me the Lego SW Ewok Attack set as a Valentine's present; we don't really go in for VD(!) much, so it was a nice little jokey gift. Whee! *flies the scout bike round the monitor*

Nice one Sieg. Now you have to follow things up by asking her out on the second date, in a subtle fashion though, no pressure.

You're so damn lucky that you know her over 'Star Trek'. It's been the bane of my love life in the past, telling a chick you're nuts about Star Trek can be like telling them your hobby is burning small animals.

Good luck!

Hey, telling them you're really into anime is like labelling yourself a pervert or someone who watches DBZ or someone who doesn't show regularly or all three.

That's why I don't talk to mundanes.

I hate DBZ, it's so boring, I don't see how my sister can watch it every night. So boring!

I'm somewhat curious about how television tastes come up in casual conversation with women anyway.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Well, the first step is to get into a casual conversation w/ a woman.

Once I figure out how that part works, I'll update you on the rest of it.

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Well, here it's easier, with only 5 mainstream channels you can pretty much ask someone, say, if they saw such-and-such a programme on TV last night and know (especially since no-one watches Channel 5 anyway) there's a chance they will have done.

Posted by Tahna Los (Member # 33) on :

Me: I love Star Trek.

Girlfriend: Ew.

Been like that for 4 years.

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

And amazingly enough she bought you a 'Star Trek' alarm clock.

Also in the random category, I drove past Shik and his girlfriend last night. I stopped to say 'hi', but I had deliveries to take.
