Today I just learned that my girlfriend who I have been dating for nearly a year, has just told me that my prom is on the same day as her graduation day. Now her graduation is from 6 to 10. My prom is 8 to 12. Given she could have told me, but now its a little too late too look for another date. She could come for a about an hour or two then go to the Post-Prom party.

However I believe there is a rule that no one can be allowed in after 8.pm. If she does not go to her graduation, she does not graduate with her class (naturally).

Boy my life sucks.

What, they can't send her diploma in the mail? Silly.

Talk to the class advisor.. perhaps they can make an exception if you tell them you (or she) or whoever will be arriving late ahead of time.

Gotta hate that life. Ouch. My father goes in for surgery for his benign tumerous growth inside his abdomen on Thursday.

But that prom thing? That sucks.

I thought your father was killed by a drunk driver ... ?

Posted by UM. (Member # 239) on :

That was my other father. Actually, that was just to MAKE YOU FEEL TERRIBLE ABOUT DRINKING AND DRIVING. And this one is TO MAKE MEN FEEL TERRIBLE ABOUT SILLY PRIORITIES. My father always told me life lessons, and he's helping out now, by dying when a moral is needed.

Apparently you cannot be depressed about something if there is something more depressing, Matrix. I think Captain Mike's advise is the best. Most people will be reasonable if there is a good explaination.

The solution is obvious. Go to the graduation, then find some post-graduation party and get seriously trashed. You won't even be thinking about the prom. [Smile]

See, now Frank is giving advice on crazy freak-outs, and nothing is the same anymore.

I love hearing technical arguments about Star Trek, especially when said technical arguments involve the fact that design linerage is more important that writing good plots!

I love everyone!

at my high school, if you didn't go to graduation you just picked up your diploma at the main office. proms are over rated anyway. my girlfriend and i went to my school's prom and to her school's prom, and they were basically just a bunch of asshats going crazy while the more intelligent people tried not to be killed by an errant bump and grind. the only thing good i got out of my prom was a wannabe beer stein with my school's name on it (kinda ironic, considering they were trying to crack down on alcohol). i like drinking from a pilsner anyway (or if it is german beer from a REAL beer stein), so even that mug was lame.

I don't suppose this would be a good time to suggest that you ditch the prom in favor of your girlfriend's graduation?

And then for a quick bite?

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :

Matrix, don't worry, its perfectly natural to want to eat out.

Most men just want to do it in the privacy of their own homes.

Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :

I like to eat out as well, in fact, one time she dragged me down behind a tree during a forest walk, after she had finished taking photos of a treestump that looked like a lion.

Yes, public displays of sex are usually frowned upon....

Best...Quote...Ever.

Honestly. Something that manages to have something as exciting (ish) as outdoor sex, and something as dull as treestump photography has to win a prize of some sort.

I'll second that.

"...my girlfriend who I have been dating for nearly a year..."

You lost any hope of getting my sympathy the moment you said that...

Matrix, my sister also has a strange prom journey. She buys her ticket at the last minuite, because she didn't know wheter her boyfriend will go with her (He's moving to cow country at June). Then she finally gets a date at the last day she needs to buy the tickets after pestering one of her friends from Key Club who got her the job at the Gap store. Unfortunately, this is the same guy that my mother hates because during Christmas, he was folding the clothes we bought at his store and making small talk while my mother just wanted to get out of the mall. She found him annoying. To top it all off, I've paid for everything: the tickets, the dress, the hair, the nails, the pictures, and the flowers that each will wear.

The problem is that I never went to a dance before because one she thinks its stupid, and two I didn't wat to go. She really wanted to go to my prom and so do I. She wants the distinction of getting her diploma on the stage then merely go to the office and get it.

I did talk to her about the problem along with some of the Prom organizers, the deal is that she can come and to the Post Prom party, but if she does not go to the Prom, she can't go to the Post Prom. Which makes no sense.

Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :

I understood that last part.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Well, if her graduation ceremony is anything like mine was, she won't get the diploma on stage. They handed out empty diploma-holders so as to avoid mix-ups w/o slowing down the whole process. We got the diplomas from random teachers in classrooms afterward (graduation was in the school gym; they really went all out... *rolls eyes*).

I skipped my senior prom. I didn't like the aura of overstated importance associated with it. I didn't like the idea of getting super dressed up to hang around a ballroom for a few hours. I especially didn't like the idea of hunting down a woman for me to escort to prom. I hated the idea of prom, and I made it quite clear that there was no way I was going to attend.

I endured two solid months of people trying to convince to go to prom. I swear, some of the intensity of those trying to convince me was on par with some of the Christian Bible Groups that solicit me on campus. My best friend got pissed off at me, and he keep giving me this ominous warning of "living to regret" not going to prom. And, as if getting the third degree from my peers wasn't enough, I had two of the band directors pressuring me to go. They offered to rent me a tuxedo, chip in my share of a limo, and pay for dance lessons.

I won out and spent the night watching Star Trek movies and helping with a band fundraiser. I watched various videotapes of the prom and the Project Prom held afterwards. I saw the pictures, and I read tbe commentaries. I don't feel like I missed out on anything.

In my opinion, prom just isn't worth it. The post-prom party might be since it could be the final time you hang out with your friends in a social atmosphere. I'd keep trying to pressure the prom organizers into relaxing the rules. Maybe going to the principal would help? If that doesn't work, is it too late to organize your own post-prom party? I know people who rented out a beach house and partied there after the prom instead of going to the Project Prom.

Well Seiggy I am 39 years old and I skipped my prom too. And to tell you the truth it has not made much of a difference in my life and I have never regretted not going.

Well, I want to go to my prom. And, I probably won't have a date, as much as I would like to have someone accompany me. But, I'll go solo anyways. Doesn't bother me. I have no idea what I'm doing afterwards. My friends aren't exactly the partying type.

Posted by Matrix (Member # 376) on :

Problem solved, I am to either go with my girlfriend's best friend as friends or go solo and wait for my girlfriend to 50/50 chance of arriving on time. She said she'll get back to me by Thursday.

At the risk of sounding like a major hypocrite, I'm not 100% certain how much I respect the opinion of a Canadian X-ray service technician who spends his free time on a Star Trek forum posting in slightly broken sentences.

Actually, since I'm slightly drunk at the moment, I will use this opportunity to insult Canada to the fullest degree. Canada smells!

There. I have proved it.

You'll not hear an argument out of me. Canada DOES smell. Take that, and be offended. For I have asserted TheLiam's assertation. Be offended, indeed.

Fake Englishman, that's what you are.

Slightly drunk? Eh?

Snayp: "Eh?"

Thou doubtest Sir Liam's phenomenal capability to get slightly drunk? Hi think you underestimate his chances!

Surely the worst superpower ever.

Being permanently aflame would certainly have to rate lower than that. Also, Robin is stupid, too.

You really have to lay off that warm beer, try putting it in a cooler with ice you are able to drink more.

Oh and England smells even worse.

No, hitting me where it hurts; my country's reputation for badly chilled beer! Damn you!

Robin is stupid, too.

Even when he was in the Teen Titans? What about Nightwing?

After he was blue, he turned okay. But he's still Burt Ward.

Jason Todd. Best. Robin. Ever. Y'know, because he died.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Tim isn't bad, although he's a completely different character in Young Justice than he is in Robin, or any other Batman title. Plus, his costume is no-where near as gay as Dick and Jason's.
