After a bad week, I had some company for the weekend. An old friend, who has moved south came in for a visit. He and I had comsumed much beer in our younger days, and I thought I would have some on hand when he arrived. We had drank just about anything in those days, from Bud to Gobal to Mickey's. We've both grown up since then.

He had told me he would cook one night, and it was to be seafood. Didn't know what beer would work with seafood, but I hoped Bass would work(it did). I had had a few of them in the last couple of years, but I also bought some Guinness Draught.

This is the beer!! Guinness now owns me. It is as expensive a beer as I've found, but worth every penny.

What about you all? If you drink any beer, what do you like best?

[Cool]

Castlemaine quad-X from Queensland. Impossible to find here, so I drink naught.

Bass Ale and Raspberry Cider Jack.

Mississippi Mud is good when I can afford it. Samuel Adams rocks.
But I drink beer from the micro-brewery in town most of the time. Inelegant names like "Texas Crude" for the stouts and "On a Pale Horse" for the lights make it hard to remember which one is my favorite. Though If I were to choose a fave concoction, it would come from The Brew Pub--a place that is essentially Cheers with big shiny Vats where you can watch them make beer while you're drinking it.

Killian's Irish Red
Amber Bach
Mickey's (I just tried this last week and it had me buzzed pretty quick)

Moonshine.

Just kiddin'

No, really Carolina GOld is good and don't get ya drunk quick.

No offence but it doesn't.

I usually drink Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale, but I also drink Crystal, Guiness, KilKenny, a variety of European beers(at the LCBO you can make variety packs of european beers). I try to stay away from the American knockoff (Bud and such).
Cause everybody knows that American beer is like having sex in a canoe.
Fucking near water.

I don't drink beer myself, besides I prefer Smirnoff or Bacardi Vodka, Kahluah, or Bailey's Irish Cream.

Heineken and Grolsch for me.

*Notices people staring at those names in total ignorance*

Look it up.

I can't decide if that's really funny or really scary.

Snay, I can't believe you'd forgotten that. He's posted it like twenty million times. Silly Alzheimers.

You are of the age of many when 31 is your time for birth. Also, many times you are very sad ass when is your 31 age.

Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :

He says he's 31. In reality, he's still being home-schooled (unless he finally "graduates" this year).

Honest, Simon, I'm trying to drop this ...

Guiness was good, I also like Bud Light and Rolling Rock, St. Paulies Girl was interesting also....

I really liked whiskey though.... Captain Morgan and Diet Cook was my usual.....

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

Try a lot harder, Snay. Or you can practice self-control on TrekBBS and not here.

Oh, and Bud Light is to beer what Kool Aid is to fruit juice. But everyone knows that, so I'm not thinking for a moment this is going to be funny or anything. Not at all.

Posted by The Ulcer Mongoose (Member # 239) on :

SKOL. Bizotches.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

And Rolling Rock would be closer to water....

Regardless, I liked the flavor.... or I wouldn't have guzzeled it so much......

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

But Kool-Aid comes in packets, and can be eaten or used to dye hair. Surely that renders it superior to any silly old fruit juice.

Posted by The Defiant (Member # 818) on :

When I was about 7, I dyed my hair with Kool-aid. I wore a white shirt and walked out in the rain. I then had a green shirt. Lesson learned.

EDIT: One damn typo and SNay goes all out...

We're really breaking down the stereotypical image here, aren't we Mickey?

Carlsberg Export.

And Shik: "Quad-X" is roughly as twatty as "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope: Special Edition: Colon".

They just aren't the same from a bottle and very few places here serve them on tap. In a little square in The Nederlands is the place to get those. Also while you go me thinking about Holland, Hoegarten is very good on a hot summer day, very refreshing. Any wheat beer will do but that is the best.

Eat it. I remember the cans with 4 huge Xs on them. Obviously worth note to them. so...

Akvavit. Foul stuff. Developed quite a taste for it once.

Heineken?! F*%k that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I tried to get into Guiness, I really did, but everytime I had a pint, I felt like I'd poured a loaf of bread into me. I guess I never really got the taste. Full Sail Pale if beer it must be. I'm into the hard ciders for klatching, and vodka martinis if I'm wearing a tie.

Anyone tried Absinthe?

Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :

You mean the illegal drink that rots your brain to an astonishing degree? Sadly, no.

Kidding, that last.

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

Absinthe's been recently re-legalized in BC. Aren't we oh so liberal and progressive.

I've yet to get to know the green fairy. Another merit badge for Bohemian Scouts I have to work on, I suppose.

A whole thread devoted to nothing but alcomohol and Jeff still trying to make people believe that that Defiant guy is MIB. (P.S.--Cutt that out, Jeff. Now.) Fascinating.

A friend of mine has apparently deleved into the world of making absinthe. I'll let you know if he turns up dead.

Saying Nederlands got you thinking about Holland? Do you have a cold?

Holland means Netherlands in many languages, including mine.

Chimay Trappiste wheatbeer, comes in 5, 7 and 9% alcVol. Very fast, veery dangerous. Dark and faintly sweet, very nice.

And of course good ol' Hoegaarden in their custom-designed .8 Liter glasses, chilled foggy.

Heineken, Amstel and Bud I can drink when I'm off on vacation, in some noname hotel. We have a couple of really heavy pubs in the Stockholm inner-city, [i]Akkurat/i] being the foremost of the bunch. I try never to drink the same beer twice when I'm there, except for the one's I really like. They have extensive menus. [Smile]

The belgians have Lambic as well, spontaneously fermented beer from open vats in attics in Brussels.

Here's a page about them crazy belgians.
http://www.marcobrau.com/belgians.htm

Also, there's nothing wrong with most Fifty-Fifty beers (Ale/Lager split) if available.

Not really into beer that much, but when I do drink it, I'd have to say that my favourite is Wieckse Witte Bier (white beer) served with lemon, much more palatable than ordinary beer.

Bulmers apple cider is nice too, but any more than 2 or 3 pints is hard on the stomach.

Why is that odd?

I found Symbolic Ore in my back yard once. I wanted to put in on the mantle, but my dog was allergic to it.

Yesterday? They won it today. 3-2 against Portugal, which is actually fairly impressive. See, Portugal are considered "quite good", whereas the US are considered "a bit crap". So well done chaps.

I'll gladly admit that I'm an alcohol weenie. I can't stand the taste of beer. I tolerate some mixed drinks and cocktails. Amaretto is still my favorite alcoholic beverage, and amaretto sours are still my hard drink of choice. I figure I'll become a girl-drink drunk as shown on The Kids in the Hall before too long.

And when I say I can't stand the taste of beer, I mean it. It makes me gag faster than when my parents start discussing the nature of their current and past sexual experiences.

Always wished I liked Guiness. It smells and looks great, but I just hate the flavour. I like Straropramen (If anyone corrects my spelling I'll send them a cyber wedgie). For nights out with the girlies it always American crap such as Bud or Rolling Rock etc.

Anyone fancy a cold one this weekend? Nope? More for me then!

::shrug:: It pays the bills. ::ducks and runs::

Seriously, I hope my taste buds do undergo some magical transformation. I mean, I come from a family of intense drinkers. So far, all I can say is I like Amaretto Sours and Strawberry Daquiris. I can state enthusiastically that I dislike beer, wine, rum, and Jaggermeister.

::sigh:: 23 years old and still the designated driver.

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

Strawberry Daquiris! Sieggy you are such a girl! I'm a girl and even I am ashamed to drink Strawberry Daquiris.

Designated driver thing sounds good though...I spend a fortune on cabs. ;-)

Dark rum, smokey brandy/cognac, +40% whiskey, gin. These are all heavy, aquired-taste beverages. Any damn fool can pull a snifter and be macho for the nite, but to enjoy these takes time and interest.
I freely admit I'm no whiskey-conneisseur, but in small amounts or in desserts, or as barbecue-marinade, it can be souperdouper.

JgerMeifter is...special, but I can't say I hate it. Tastes like salmiac cough-medicine, though, I'm gonna have to try it more.

I was just at our national liquor store chain, to buph up my inventory before tomorrows company kick-off trip.
We will go fishing for three days (like any of you give a rat's ass) out where the buses don't run, and I got six 'Chimay'-bottles, six 'Fifty-Fifty'-cans, a big 'Olde English'-cider and a new french cider, colourfully named 'La Cidraie'.
The Martini Bianco came along ass well, couldn't leave it behind, all alone and by itself, 'tis cruel.

So rainbow trouts watch OUT! I'll be pissin' in yer general matin' area!
Bish me luck!

Not anymore. I can't stand weaker beers now. If it doesn't have at least as much flavor as Bass Ale, I don't think I want to buy it.

There was a time I would drink any beer, but then I was drinking to get drunk, and wasn't concerned with taste. I haven't been drunk in some time, years really, and taste matters. Bass for lighter beer, Guinness when I have the money, and Saranac Black & Tan, when it's on sale, and I'm short of cash.

[Cool]

It ain't my favourite anymore either. I think the best beers come from Belgium and the Czech Republic. Yum Yum!
