I am definitely regressing now. If thinking back about high school with hints of yearning for "the good ol' days" wasn't proof enough, than this is it.

I have woken up super early for no particular reason today. I have an exam in about eleven hours, but I'm going to do a quick review of the material this morning. Instead, I'm going to watch cartoons. I'm reverting back to my childhood.

In about twenty minutes on Cartoon Network, Max Steel comes on followed by Zoids: Chaotic Century. Then there's a SpongeBob SquarePants mini-maraton on Nickelodeon (assuming TV Guide is correct). I curse my friend Nic for getting me started on SpongeBob. I curse myself for getting started on Zoids and Hamtaro (which is later on this morning).

I suppose this revelation is fitting since my statistics exam today is over regression and correlation. Yay.

Oh no, study material saturating your daily contemplation through sleep, forcing you to apply the knowledge on your life when exposed to the irregular elements of daytime kiddie-tv!

See, this is why cartoons are dangerous. You're a bright young man, Sieg, but basically, you need to lay off the sauce.

Cartoons are my anti-drug. And the only sauce that I'm on right now is this Chernobyl inferno hot sauce. I've been applying that stuff liberally to my quesadillas lately. Burns the hell out of my mouth and makes my stomach do somersaults, but it's good.

The exam went well. All that's left is the cumulative final for statistics (on the 17th) and my Java final tomorrow afternoon. Yay.

overeating, booze, cartoons, drawing, writing, obsessive relationships, masturbation and being a workaholic are my anti-drugs.. oh and certain drugs are my anti-drugs, anti-other-drugs that is

Sieg: It was a Tommy Lee Jones-quote from Men in Black. Replace "cartoons" with "tequila".

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Ah, I see. I don't remember that quote, though. Was it from the cartoon series, first movie, or second movie?

Well, my Java final went well. Only my statistics final left. I'm going to go celebrate now.

Be sure to keep that little kid inside you happy at all times, Sieg. Or he'll pull a Will Robinson on you.

Boy, that sounds dirty. [Big Grin]

Precisely.

Can someone please explain SpongeBob SquarePants to me. Specifically why everyone seems to like the bloody show? I fail to see the appeal.

My roommate is into that show too. He's a fucking 19 year old sailor too... He collects all the shit too... No wonder why the Petty Officer thinks he's weird.

I've watched one episode of that show... I thought it was stupid as hell. I don't get why so many people like it. Plus it seems to have as much adult fans as children.

I really don't get into cartoons, the only one I do like the current X-Men cartoon. Not that I can watch it anyway.

Never got into SBSP either - what is funny about it?

The best of the "animations"

The Simpsons
Futurama
King of the Hill
Ren and Stimpy
Warner Bros. Cartoons are ageless.
|
|
|
Pinky and the Brain
|
|
|
Rugrats

I.e. these are shows in descending order that are beloved by all but appeal to Adults equally or more-so!

Any others?

I guess you could fit Wallace and Gromit in there somewhere.

I'd take out "King of the Hill" and put in "Family Guy". I'd also move "Pinky & the Brain" up a few steps, and stick "The Powerpuff Girls" and "Dexter's Laboratory" either side of it.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Family guy... no. It's just another "Dinosaurs" - and no I'm not putting THAT in there.

Dexters and PPG are just - no. They would be grouped with SBSP in their own 'special' group.

So, in other words, it's just the list of shows you like. Because I think "The Family Guy" was considered by the majority to be funnier than "King of the Hill". Except maybe in Texas.

I was not so enamored with it as some.

But what about Space Ghost? Or Sealab 2021? Brilliant.

All the things that could happen to Daffy's beak, oh my...

In the Robin Hood ep, when Friar Fudd starts laughing at Daffy, and he eventually thaws and start smiling at himself, you could see his eyebrows lift and his cap ride back an inch on his scalp.
That really made me fall in love with the characters, they could be so meticulously human...

shows I like??? Why yes, ok! [Big Grin]

OK you can knock KotH of there - but Family Guy in comparison was childish.

Simpsons and Futurama - still have it.

I like The Simpsons, and Futurama which in my opinion was a lot fresher than Simpsons which became repetitive to me.

I don't like Cartoon Network cartoons like Dexter's Lab. The new Transformer series would be ok, if it, like RiD, wasn't Pokemon-like.

As for a Transformers cartoon I wish they'd make one for the original fans, a darker more realistic using the original character designs instead of trying to update them. No stupid kids, bumbling villians who never win. I wouldn't mind an anime look, just a more mature one that doesn't resemble Pokemon.

SpongeBob SquarePants I like for no other reason than it can make me laugh. We all should know by now that my sense of humour is rather... off. It just appeals to me. Of course, not every SpongeBob is gem (indeed, quite many of them I've seen so far have resembled something in my cat's litter box). I will admit that I can't watch too many of those cartoons at one time. It does get rather trying and annoying.

I've tried watching some of Cartoon Network's other shows. I watched a couple episodes of Inuyashi, and that seemed pretty cool. I used to religiously watch Sunday night's Adult Swim, but a lot of what's being shown now is, I think, crap. The Ripping Friends can go straight to hell and never come back.

Talking about non-comedy cartoons...

Justice League is pretty good - well the few I've seen.

The X-men cartoon (the one from a couple of years ago) was very good!

Spider-man from a few years ago was also good.

Invader Zim.

Jhonen Vasquez is gawd.

Jhonen == teh r0x0rz

how is Family Guy like dinosaurs? Dinosaurs was dopey G-rated with a few jokes adults would get mixed in, and Family Guy has been cancelled 13,000 times for breaking network standards.. and Family Guy uses the shock value masterfully..

maybe I'm just prejudiced because I live in RI and hang out (and work) where FG's creator did.. nobody in the rest of the country must get all of the RI State Police, Brown U. or RISD, quahogging, Buddy Cianci, Pawtucket, Warwick Mall jokes... but then again I walk down streets that ive seen animated on FG all the time..

Go and watch Beast Wars and stop moaning.

Transformers: Armada makes me groan at times, but the new Masters of the Universe series is actually pretty decent.

New HE-MAN!?! Sacreligious! [Smile]

It's all right. Doesn't have as much of that cheesy dialog I remember from the original He-Man or (shudder) She-Ra. Although Skeletor sounds like Dr. Evil everytime he says "evil."

Interesting enough, Cartoon Network billed Masters of the Universe as being an "all-new original series." They kinda forgot the first one.
