Eeek! This is only like the second time I've ever started a thread...It's quite exciting! I'll be writing a letter to Shik over the next few days. I usually print a copy of some of the longer threads and put them in with my letters. This time though I thought I'd give people the opportunity to send him any news they might have. So off you go....write...lots...NOW!! *cracks whip*

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Do you want us to send them to you over private message? Is there a cut-off date for sending them to you to be included?

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

Its up to you...I can simply print out this thread if people put them here, or you can PM them or email them if they are a little more private...I don't mind (I also will avoid reading them - honest ;-) I'll probably write my letter at the weekend and get things in the post on Monday.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Wow: that's a really cool thing to do.
I'll PM you once I think of something good to say.
I'm at aloss to come up with anything not as pedantic as "hang in there".

Thanks.

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

No problem...to be honest I think anything will be more entertaining for him than the blow by blow accounts of my rehearsals he has had to endure! We have been scraping the bottom of the barrel with my descriptions of my DisneyWorld vacation...If you know Shik you know he's not a Disney kind of guy! I even described swimming with a Dolphin...compared to that 'Hang in there' would be an improvement!!

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Hey! You were in MY part o' the world!
I could've told yu all the coo things to do in Florida...although swimming with Dolphins is definitely one of them!

Shik needs something to look forward to so I think I may organize some model kits to send him once he's out.....mabye some good sci-fi books to read too: those I could send him now, but I dont know the prison's policy on that: some facilities only allow prisonrs to read from their own library.
He'll be on probation, so he'll be indoors when he's not working.
He really should ask his probation officer for permission to move so he'll never run into this girl (or her family!).

I'll think of something.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Cool. Thanks, MaGiC. I'll send you a private message with my letter to him as soon as possible.

What to say that isn't too smart ass, but encouraging that life isn't over.....

possibly more later....

Not to degrade the thread... but I hope he hasn't become anyone's bitch! [Smile]

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

..not that he's mentioned, no. And he is allowed to receive books. I send him them. But put them in a padded envelope not in a box...he has not recieved anything that came in a package rather than an envelope (used to happen at the prison where I worked too) also people have been sending things from amazon...he hasn't got any of these either. He also didn't get my stamps that i sent with the last letter which is annoying cos I can only get them from the states and have to ask whichever of my friends is on holiday to bring them back. This time I'm actually going to stick them by a corner to the letter or the book! Less chance of them getting lost.

Please keep sending the PM's.

How long will he have to stay there before he get's out again? I seem to have overlooked that detail in the other thread.

Hope springs eternal for you, huh Andrew. [Big Grin]

Kidding.
Really.

Mabye I'll dig up some Trek books for him....hmmmm.
Mabye Count Of Monte Cristo and Stephen King's Diffrent Seasons.
Lotsa hope in those books.

Would you mention it???

That's odd, I've never heard of them not letting packages from the bookstores and publishers through, it's usually the ones sent from home that get tossed... Never know when someone good is going to get the drugs in to the bindings just right....

I know far too much about jail.... friends and family... gotta love it....

Tell him to never ever drop the soap. Ever.

Of course he most likely already learned that.

You mean Sty?

Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :

When I think of Shik I think of that tall guy in VOY: "The Chute", with the manifesto.

Shik's got a goatee, doesn't he? Or is that some other Flareite's lj?

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

As far as I know, the Facial Hair Club for Flarites only includes the following TSN, Charles Capps, and Sol System.

I could be (and probably am) wrong, though.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

I have (currently) a close cropped beard and goatee.

My face looks a bit too angualr without it: like I'm designed by Japanese anime artists.
Only the one tentacle though.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Hmmm...

A cropped beard and goatee...

Angular face...

Hmm...

He's a liberal pinko commie! Get him!

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

I currently sport a close-cut chin-only goatee.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

You are probably wrong.... My goatee fluctuates from an eighth of an inch to an inch, depending on what I have got going and when I look in the mirror and say 'Oh shit!'

Hey, just what Shik needs, a bunch of guys describing themselves to him....

I've had the funky Victorian moustache-and-long-muttonchops (see Mastermind in the X-Men's Dark Phoenix Saga or the admiral to the left of Admiral Bill during the briefing room scene in Star Trek VI for reference) for the last twelve years.

Messages people messages!! Can't you people stay on topic for more than 3 posts!!

As for release dates etc. At the moment looking like July next year as long as he keeps his kitchen job. He as applied to the judge for sentence modification. A reduction to 12 months would mean out in April, 9 months out in Feb, 6 months out in December. He can't apply for parole as he has no address to be paroled to, his lease expired 4 days before sentencing. The money which was supposed to be finacing his car payment while he was inside did not materialise and so his car has been reposessed, which as he is a pizza delivery guy means he isn't going to be able to go back to his job as he anticipated. He's pretty down. I get the impression that he doesn't get too many visitors because of the distance involved...

So SEND ME MESSAGES!! Share your highs (they might cheer him up) Or share your lows...they usually make me laugh...(yes I am a cruel individual)

Faaa. I know several people who were in prison for one reason or another. They all have horror stories about the showers.

Details best not explained.

Though in my mind this explains why people get out of jail, and go on killing rampages. Getting nailed by Bubba every day in the shower would make me quite angry too.

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

MaGiC, no, we haven't quite mastered that yet, although be the topic count we do keep trying...

359, oh, in some cases you are right....

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Shik's at what? County or state prison?
He's not in Federal or maximum security prison and that's where most of those "shower stories" come from.
Not that county's any sleigh ride or anything.

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

County I believe

Oh, come now. You should know by know that we couldn't stay on topic to save our lives. Need I remind Her Mistress of how the interrogation threads got so far off track that they went from teasing His Highness to a Transformer-Pompatus RPG battle?

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

good times....fond memories...

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

Is that on topic???

Posted by MaGiC (Member # 59) on :

Well everyone else is doing it! I felt like I was missing out!!

You were, but we forgive you.....

How much extra is it for him to send a letter overseas???

Which was largely your own doing, Matrix Boy. B)

Hey! Frank and Krenim were heavily involved, too! And Jeff Raven kept swooping in eating everyone, too! Don't pawn that whole thing off on me!

Besides, it was Tahna that started the whole thing anyway. It's really all his fault. [Big Grin]

Ah....the ranks of fallen Flarites.
Some grizzled vetrans seem to show up from time to time though...

I can almost envision a klingon-esque hall of heroes for those lost in the dangerously sarcastic seas of the Internet.

Just reminding you lovely people that tomorrow is the cut of point for messages. Thanks to those who have already sent them.

Sieggy...you can have my respect if you want it... however in my experience it's like a magic pumpkin...doesn't last all the way until the next morning.

Posted by Kosh (Member # 167) on :

Sorry I missed the cut off. If you write again, tell him I hope it all works out when he gets out. It's going to be tough, but you have some friends online, when you need them.

I heard my name mentioned, so I figured I'd acknowledge that I still do exist (although some researchers might disagree).

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Well, given the time lag between the mention of your name and your appearance, you were presumably out somewhere near the Oort Cloud. . ?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Yeah. Even Simon responds quicker than that, and he lives in the fag end of nowhere.

Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :

Well he could always join the academy next year. Unless he's got too much of his father in him.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

I got a letter back from Shik today. Now to write him back and see what I can assemble to send to him. Overall, Shik seems to be doing incredibly well. He's in positive spirits, and he's putting his time to good use. I get the feeling Shik going to be much more philosophical when he gets out (which will be in August). He's also working a story that:

quote:
Frank and Simon will adore it, Liz will love it, Omega will call me a heretic and start collecting kindling.
Also, in case anyone here is interested in sending him something or writing to him, here are some notes (I said I'd pass this info along to everyone here):

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

So... he's writing the Book Of G'Shik, eh? I think I have some idea whom the characters might be patterned after. B)

Actually, he didn't tell me anything about his idea other than that bit I quoted above. For all I know, it could be a Star Wars cookbook with lots of literary devices slipped into it that makes lots of fun of conservatives. However, I highly doubt that it's going to do with anything or anyone here (because I already called dibs on that story -- and the result is that everyone here will call me a heretic and start looking for kindling).

Well, It's good that he's doing okay!
I'll have to round up some paperbacks to send him.

"Packages from Amazon aren't being given to him; packages from persons are being given to him."

So, packages from a known, reputable company are forbidden. But random boxes from any unknown person are A-okay?

They have to keep the contraband flowing in somehow dont they?

One rock hammer and a poster of Rita Hayworth coming up!

Apparently, that's the case. He said that all the Amazon packages he has been sent by his mother have been placed into his property bag. The packages sent by MaGiC have been given to him. He didn't say if those packages were searched before he got them, but I'd assume so.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Maybe it's the way Amazon packages are? In the UK they're generally folded cardboard that makes it impossible to tell what's inside.

Kinda make you wonder what is mother has been sending him.

US and UK Amazon boxes aren't really different. But, then, they aren't really different from the kind of boxes anyone would use to send a package. And, if they're opening the packages, anyway...

We'll put a Harmonica in the Bible for him: it's not contarband and it'll make for a good gag with Prison security.
We'll put Omega's return address on it (just in case). [Big Grin]
