I've recently upgraded to Win XP Home and have this annoying little problem. A little message box titled "Messenger Service" keeps popping up when I am on-line. I have a picture to show with it on, but can't upload. Anyone know about this and how to stop it as it's really bugging me and my sister as she's got this problem on her laptop.

It should be related to Outlook, that much I can say. Maybe some preference in Outlook or the messenger-part of "Internet Options" has some feature or box to be disabled/unchecked.

Norton sucks ten levels of ass. If it was doing its job properly, no systems would be allowed to contact the Messenger Service on your system in the first place.
The ONLY things Norton makes nowadays that don't blow dead bear are Ghost and the AntiVirus package.
Their "firewall" does nothing that switching to ZoneAlarm (free) and Firefox (free) won't protect you from anyway.

I have ZoneAlarm installed in my laptop and I love it. Talk about helping control freaks become more controling. But what is Firefox? Is it another firewall program?

I have Bullguard (paid-for) and it has killed every diseased mail and popup for six months now, and it doesn't talk to Messenger, nor does it drain memory or screw up gaming.
At my office we use F-Secure, very effective but it is too expensive as a single-license for me to want to get at home, it's not worth it.

Well, I shall seriously consider these programs should I get any problems with Norton, but so far I've not had many problems with it. Since I got Win XP the firewall has worked properly and allowed me to alter options and stuff. Should problems arise I'll consider other options. Thanks guys! I just tried this "Firefox" thingy, it looks nice, and it loads fast, and the popups are gone. But it didn't transfer any of the cookies pertaining to passwords and logins from Explorer, so I've stopped using it for now, until I can chase down all the passwords and login names...

I was at least able to transfer my bookmarks from IE 6.1 to Opera 7.12 when I switched a while ago. I don't know if the fully operational version of Firefox will work that way.

Charles, I'm trying out Firefox to see if I want to replace it with Opera... I'm currently pissed since I can't figure out how to use the tabs function where each new window is launched within a tab so I can have few browser windows open as possible. That is why I switched to Opera in the first place.

Firefox tabs are tabs. This isn't MDI. You can't force all links that would open a new window to open a new tab instead.
Use Ctrl + Click or middleclick (assuming your mouse is so equipped) to open links in a new tab instead.

So taking Charles's advice I did. Although I got annoyed at first with the pop ups asking permission for things like AIM or McAfee to get online, now I'm glad it does. It's already prevent a couple possible firewall breaches. It makes me wonder what the hell was going on before I installed it that I didn't know about.

So that's a good one is it? I have this sudden to expand my horizons regarding broswers - my, if you will, browserizons. Firefox is recommended I take it. I've been using IE exclusively since, two or three PC rebuilds ago, I asked myself why I'd even bother reinstalling Netscape given how much it sucked.

I switched over to Firefox to see what all the hype was about. I've been using IE for years, Netscape sucked ass and would crash all the time. Not to mention if a website's HTML wasn't 100% error free it wouldn't show up.
Firefox's tools and settings have taken a little getting use to, but it's growing on me.

'Da Buzz' are AoB's successors. "Alive" is a good song. Not grammy-material but fiercely humminglingus. Singer girl is cute as the button. Also, solo broad 'September' (Petra Marklund), with "Never Give It Up". She's alto, so she sounds like a dominatrix.
