Who was the best villian on Star Trek?
My guess would be either Khan or Gul Dukat. The Borg Queen was evil, but she didn't match the status of those two. Q wasn't really a villian, just a nuisance.

Posted by The Red Admiral (Member # 602) on :

Q I think was a villain, he may not have been a military foe, but I think the Enterprise crew would consider him villainous in the extreme.

Others? Khan, Dukat, Tomolak, and the Borg Queen as you say. Also Eddington probably didn't have many sympathisers.

The Pakleds. Nothin's more dangerous than retards with weaponry.

Hey, I already did that bit a couple years ago!!!!

Okay, I'm only kidding.

Movie wise, I preferred Khan and Chang. Series wise, I prefer Weyoun.

Dukhat.

::closes case::

Posted by Dukhat (Member # 341) on :

All right!!!!! I'm the best Star Trek villain!!!
Wow, what an honor...

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

I think that Dukat and Weyoun definitly took the cake as far as great villans. Dukat had a very rounded character going. Weyoun was very hard to figure out. They were even better villans because they were kind of enemies of each other as well.

I think the Vorta were great villans, period.

Posted by The Red Admiral (Member # 602) on :

Ah but Dukhat, the real Gul 'Dukat', didn't have an 'h' in his name....

Posted by Stingray (Member # 621) on :

It's not?

Oh well, Dukhat, you aren't the best villian, you just have the taste to be named after him.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

Q was a great villian for Picard. He was the villian of the week type, much more fun. In TNG they did a good job of keeping his edge while making him appealing to fans. Meanwhile, Voyager decided to declaw him and make Q more friendly.

Posted by Michael_T (Member # 144) on :

Well that's because Voyager was a family-friendly show with a blonde babe in a catsuit.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

The producers (wisely, I think) stopped portraying Q as a villain after Q Who. After that he was an antagonist and a trickster, but never really an adversary.

Posted by The Red Admiral (Member # 602) on :

Yes, the proverbial extra-dimensional jester if you like. And what are the chances he'll show up in Enterprise somewhere along the line? Maybe he'll end up being this 'future guy'??

Posted by Mr. Christopher (Member # 71) on :

Some people just don't get it.

Dukat => Cardassian villian on DS9.
Dukhat => Minbari spiritual leader on B5.

The Red Admiral: Is there a specific reason you have a link for the ASDB in for .sig? I don't seem to remember a Mark R in our cadre...

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

That isn't a bad thing though, Michael T.

Posted by Wes1701E (Member # 212) on :

I really really really liked Weyoun. he was cool

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Some of his lines:
"What a pity."
"Time to start packing!"
"I'm sure we can arrange something."
"What a pity."

Posted by Dr Phlox (Member # 680) on :

I'm going to put it into little categories.0

TOS= Chang and Khan

TNG= Borg Queen, Q, and Lore

DS9= Gul Dukat and Weyoun

VOY= Well the Borg Queen and the Hirogen.

Posted by The Red Admiral (Member # 602) on :

Mr Christopher: Yes, sorry I forgot about the Dukhat from B5...

BTW I am also a recent addition to the ASDB team, my specialty being 3D starship design and construction.

My vote for Trek villian goes to Khan. On first appearance, he was simply a power-hungry ego-maniac. But he come off as caring and compassionate and with a genuine love for whats-her-name in "Space Seed." After the death of his wife and fifteen years of torment on a desert planet, rage and revenge superceded his previous traits. You could still see his traits from "Space Seed," but he was almost like a new person. Full of rage. Quite powerful stuff.

I liked Dukat as a villian. He was an arrogant self-centered man who lived in a delusional world of his own making, in my opinion. He's trickery becomes evident after he sides with the Dominion (which also marks him going even more power-hungry). Then we get to see his decline into madness after Tora Ziyal's death. Was quite interesting to watch. Even in madness, he had the core of Dukat's personality.

Chang and Kruge I liked as far as Klingon villians. They were similar in intentions but differed in executing their plans. Kruge was brazen and in-your-face. He was harsh and brutal. Chang had an elegance in the havoc he unleashed. Quoting Shakespeare and attacking under the cloak of darkness. Quite interesting to watch the two.

Well I would have to say Dukat was primarily ones standard military despot, reigning as 'prefect' of the Bajoran occupation as long as he did probably moulded his lust absolute power and control. In many ways he saw himself as a pseudo-deity.

This was all perfectly summed up in his conversation with Weyoun (in possibly Sacrifice of Angels) whereby he lamented the lack of appreciation the Bajoran people (which he saw as 'his children') had shown him, and that there was no existing monument or statue to honour him on Bajor. This was extreme megalomania, and yes he spiralled horribly at the end when the Pah Wraiths took control of him. Again his desire and lust for power.

Dukat is summed up perfectly in "Waltz". Excellent ep.

TRA: How come you're not on the mailing list?

Posted by The Red Admiral (Member # 602) on :

I don't know, but I get all the emails from other members enveloped to me. I haven't been involved with the group that long so perhaps it hasn't been set up yet. I'm hoping to get a 3D project to work on soon, I'm closely monitoring the progress of Kristian's illustrations of Surak Class....

Yes, Waltz was a brilliant examination of Dukat, by this point he had changed quite drastically. But we all remember his almost aimiable personality from early on, from episodes such as Defiant and Indiscretion and so forth.

Another villain no-one has mentioned yet, and possibly the most devastating in the level of destruction he caused was Annorax and his temporal weapon ship. Although he was not a military foe of the Federation as a whole, he routed entire civilizations from existence. Although driven by good intentions, he was a maniac in the extreme.

God, what I wouldn't give to be able to see the whole rest of Season 6 and Season 7 of Deep Space 9 right now.

Watching one per week is agonizing!

Posted by Mr. Christopher (Member # 71) on :

Well if you had been smart like some of us and taped all the eps, you'd be set

TRA: If you get all the emails then you're on the list.

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

1) Weyoun (and his fellow Vorta). Creepy, cold, complex and eerily sympathetic. The baddest bad guy!
2) Gul Dukat. One twisted little man. "Waltz" was quite terrifying.
2) Khan. He was good (in an evil way).

Close runner-up:
The Klingon governor of Organia (Kang or Kor) from errr, that one episode featuring the Organians.

Here's one no one has thought of ...

Gowron.

Sure, he didn't start out as an villain ... but he certainly schemed and manipulated Picard enough to make him at least as annoying as "Q" -- and he sure didn't start out on the right foot either, with his treatment of Worf.

Then on DS9, okay, he came to Quark's defense after a failed math lesson, but he was perfectly willing to put the fate of the Alpha Quadrant on the line repeatedly for his own political benefits: including a war with the Federation, and then later, squandering precious military resources in vain attempts to cast Martok in a dark light.

Gowron gets my vote for "Under-appreciated Villain."

...I apparently killed all interest in this thread.

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

My God, tape all off the episodes?
Who are you people??
How much time do you got?
And stop bragging about watching an episode every week! Back in my day, they were on every night from Monday to Friday.
Now that's changed. You should be thinking about all the unfortunate people in the world, such as the ones in Milwaukee, Wisconsiin, who don't have DS9 reruns on any channel anymore!
The horror! Voyager and TNG every night!
What's life without DS9?? Auuuugghhhhh!!!

:::smacks Veers::: DUDE!! You HAVE to fucking chill OIUT. Take a fucking VALium.

GawDAMN, son....!

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Sorry, sorry. I just get mad when people talk about things I don't have..like DS9 reruns on TV anymore...
Someone will probably say, "A life, you mean?"

Posted by Mr. Christopher (Member # 71) on :

A life, you mean?

Anyways, what's wrong with taping all the episodes? It's not hard. You know when you watch them? Well, stick a tape in the VCR and press the "record" button. Oh, that's so hard! Oh, that takes so much time! Oh, I'm pressing the record button, so I don't have a life anymore! Whatever shall I do?

Let's see...a six-hour tape, and a 176 episode series...that's 29.3 tapes! And some of the episodes wouldn't be good! Who has the money? The time??
All I have are the good episodes, the cool episodes, and so forth.
I just think some of you people have too much time. And a lot of you are either teenagers or adults (of course), so you must have a lot of work. I do!
But I understand die-hard Star Trek Fans, though I am not one. It's just...do you have a library or something where you keep these tapes? A basement? The dorm?
And now people will say "chill out" again. Ha!

Posted by MeGotBeer (Member # 411) on :

One wonders why you post on the BBoard.

One also wonders why everyone has ignored my post about Gowron as best villain and gone onto bitching about DS9 reruns and lives. Sheeesh. Get your eyes on the ball, people!

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

Hey, anyone else noted that Jeff named Gowron the best villain of Trek!?

BTW, I think the Red Devil from Cow & Chicken is the best villain of any tv-show

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

No way. The best villain EVER would either be KARR or Garth Knight.

Posted by Mr. Christopher (Member # 71) on :

I have a few TV stands with tapes in them.

Seska and Klaa. Best. Villans. Ever.

What about Eddington?

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Eddington was cool. Why they go and kill him? They sure hate those Canadians...
I remember back in '96, a lot of people on the Internet thought he was the changeling infiltrator on DS9.

Posted by Balaam Xumucane (Member # 419) on :

I think Khan kind of has to win. Dukat is a close second. I liked the idea behind Gowran, but he came off as so two dimensional. Q was fun, but his motivation never seemed sinister. Eddington was interesting, and I though he had potential, but his unresolved motivations left me wanting more. Nope, sorry, it's Khan for me.

"Surely I have made my meaning plain. I mean to avenge myself upon you, Admiral. I've deprived your ship of power and when I swing around I mean to deprive you of your life."

As Kirk put it best:
"Khaaaaaannnnnnnn!"

Posted by MeGotBeer (Member # 411) on :

Or, as I put it best to my alarm clock at 7:30am Monday --> Friday (albeit, in a sleepy haze), "Shadafukupumudafuker."

Which can be a bit difficult to explain if there's someone else in the bed. But that's another story.

"BTW, I think the Red Devil from Cow & Chicken is the best villain of any tv-show."

The Red Guy. And Cow & Chicken is less funny than one of the late and unfunny episodes of Ren & Stimpy, watched after discoving you have one week to live, and your penis has fallen off. I Am Weasel's not bad though.

Just to get this over 3 pages...

Get a life, Veers.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

I've just realised that in 6 and a bit series of Rimmer being dead, Lister never once said "get a life". We did have "Drop dead" "Already have done" "Encore" though, which was nice.

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Can't I have a little fun?

Posted by Tahna Los (Member # 33) on :
