Hrm... purusing the summaries on the link page, I have a question.

What are "Strak Fans"?

Posted by FawnDoo (Member # 1421) on :

He was over in Scotland for a convention years back, and I got the impression from the people running it (friends of mine) that they knew way back then, and this con was in the very early 90s. Maybe it was an open secret? I must admit when I saw this thread I was surprised - thought everyone knew about that one. Ah well, since I don't want to be sued by George Takei over something I write about him on a forum, I should probably shut up now! :-D

From the same thread, on Starship Modeler:

This is no shocker... I met him and his partner on a gay cruise before. I guess it was somewhat of an open secret though... gay Trekkies knew well in advance in one form or another.

Posted by Mark Nguyen (Member # 469) on :

Yeah. I was almost surprised that there was next to nothing about his orientation, even hint-wise, in his Trek autobiography.

Mark

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

I thought the same thing as Mark when reading his autobiography. Still, good for him.

Posted by Toadkiller (Member # 425) on :

It is truly sad that he (or anyone) had to keep a nearly two decade long relationship "secret" - though as said above apparently it wasn't something that his friends didn't know about.

Actually, I'm just glad he's doing well. When I saw his picture in the news I was afraid it was going to say that he had joined Bones and Scotty.

Does it really matter?

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Well, intrinsically? No, of course not. But sexual orientation is obviously still a huge issue in most parts of the world.

Posted by Mighty Blogger Snay (Member # 411) on :

And, uh, who cares that he's gay?

He and his boyfriend, probably, for two.

Posted by Mighty Blogger Snay (Member # 411) on :

Good for them. I'm just wondering why we need a thread to talk about it in.

Posted by Vice-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

Because Sulu can't come out of the closet. Maybe Pavel...

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Why do we need a thread to talk about anything in? It's just what we do.

Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :

You know I always wondered if any of the the TOS cast was gay, even though it was considered a pretty liberal show it still had the same machismo found in other shows of that era.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

I mentioned this in passing a couple of years ago and no one here thought anything of it then....

It's pretty obvious if you meet him, really.

Oddly enough I still don't, but, I haven't posted in sometime, so what the heck, this thread is as good as any I suppose.

Welcome back- I say this from my devestated neighborhood in (now somewhat flat) Fort Lauderdale.

Where ya been?

Posted by Ritten (Member # 417) on :

PC suffered a major problem, had to save up to buy a newer one.

Glad to see you made it through and have power.

My I ask what ye was doing on a gay cruise...

It's funny when people ask "why do we have to discuss this?" when it's a sexual orientation issue, but no one asks why we need a threat to talk about other pointless minutia.

Cruisin'! [Wink]

And gaying, no doubt.

Posted by MrNeutron (Member # 524) on :

"Gaying"? So are you "straightening?"

Quiet often, in the past anyway, I have asked myself, what in the hell am I posting this for. Then I remember, oh, yeah, this is a BB, we post here, usually for mundane reasons.

Say, anyone heard from Shik?

I just have one question for this thread, and that is: Why is it so bloody difficult to spell THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU'RE POSTING ABOUT correctly?

It's Takei, man! Takei!

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

"'Gaying'? So are you 'straightening?'"

Well, not at this exact moment, much to my disappointment. But, shouldn't it be "straighting"? Or we'll have to change it to "gayening".

"I just have one question for this thread, and that is: Why is it so bloody difficult to spell THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU'RE POSTING ABOUT correctly?"

I think you've failed to notice who made the initial post, and in what style.

There was a thread a while back where someone speculated on this, but really - I agree. Who cares.

Sulu was cool, George is cool! WOO!

P.S. In the article at this page... did they have to include one of the most gay-esque pictures? [Smile]

P.P.S

Oh and if you look at the link to the google page - trekweb.com is listed (in grey lettering) as a google news "news page". In the same vein as BBCnews or CNN. Not FoxNews... that's not news, that's just shit.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Oh and to add fuel to this thread... "Excelsior" would have been a better show than "Enterprise"! [Smile]

Posted by Vice-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

Why would a show about Excelsior be a better show than ST: Enterprise? Sulu likes the women... look at his daughter.

And yes I went on a gay cruise to party... and dick around.

Posted by Toadkiller (Member # 425) on :

Excelsior wouldn't have gone mucking around in Trek pre-history to no avail?

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Oh I was just saying it to get a reaction. It would have been interesting to see what came of an Excelsior show, though.

Posted by Mark Nguyen (Member # 469) on :

*beurk*

But let's discuss!

Mark

Sure they wouldn't.....

Imagine the backlash if all the Enterprise stories from season one were inflicted on the (incredibly boring already!) Excelsior crew.
...plus, they'd have stuck Tuvok in there to get the dozens of Voyager fans to watch.

Bitch all you want about Enterprise- their bridge crew was pretty cool.

Except for Mayweather.

And Hoshi.

Posted by Vice-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

What's wrong with Hoshi, aside from not being fleshed out as a character... and the Mirror Universe episodes don't count since they fleshed out something else.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Shi-Ho? [Smile]

Posted by Johnny (Member # 878) on :

A friend of mine has a sister called Ho Man.

And the Excelsior crew did have interesting characters. What about the dude with the beard who could come back from the dead? Not to mention Yoeman Randy.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Yoeman Randy? Sounds like a C'n'W singer.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Or a character in a military-themed porn film.

Posted by Vice-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

Great... Star Trek porn. As if hentai isn't disturbing enough.

Star Trek porno? Hang on, I think there's an echo in here...
