Straight from the horse's......um.....MOUTH

Well it's a long way off and the writers said they wanted him involved, so he could still be in it. Surely they'd be mad not to include him?

I don't care about Shatner. Zach Quinto is going to be playing Spock. First solidly good (or even decent) thing I've heard about this, but hey. it's good enough to make me watch.

Mmmmm, Zach...

EDIT: I fail at listing sources. Here it is. Just ignore the fact that it's on MTV; I read it at MA and googled for an article.

Sweet! Quinto will make a good Spock, I think. He has the right look (at least when he's clean-shaven).

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

I don't know. Sure, he's good at creepy, but I didn't think much of that episode with Sylar's mom, and that was the one episode requiring more than creepiness from him. Though maybe it was his mom that was the problem. Anyway, it just didn't work for me, and that was the most Quinto-heavy episode.

Posted by WizArtist II (Member # 1425) on :

Well, he is already familiar with a character that does "Mind Meld" of a sort. I see this turning into a Spock's Angst portrayal.

Posted by Johnny (Member # 878) on :

The "Sylar's mum episode" was out of character for the whole series, really. I remember at the time it was broadcast nobody knew what to make of it, so I wouldn't blame Quinto's performance. I think it's just that up until that point Sylar had been a fairly one dimensional character who wanted "more powaaarrr!!" Introducing his mother showed more depth to the psychosis, but in quite a forced, twenty-episodes-into-the-series kinda way.

Anyway, I'm glad he's Spock. He's got an intensity and mysteriousness to him that an actor needs to play the role.

And they're saying Shatner may yet be in it.

I just hope that, with Nimoy and possibly Shatner in it, they'll have them as one-off cameos to a distant relative and not a 23rd Century Spock and Kirk reminiscing on past adventures.

Posted by Josh (Member # 1884) on :

I hope Nimoy plays Sarek or something along those lines.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Reality check? You do not coax Leonard Nimoy back to Trek and have him playing anyone but Spock. He'll be looking back on his life, or something. Hence the suggestion they'll also have Shatner if they can find a place for him - the fact that canonically he's dead, and physically he's not really capable of passing for a pre-Generations Kirk, makes that difficult.

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

Oo! Holographic Kirk! Spock gets a hold of an EMH 1 matrix & radically modifies it so that....

...Or not.

A while I remember reading an article about Quinto wanting to be Spock and they photoshopped an image of him looking like a vulcan. I thought it looked good.

Physcially, no, but digitally, yes. Those direct TV Star Trek VI commertials were pretty good.

I saw the Back to the future one and the Aliens one. They were pretty well done.

There's an interview with Nimoy here and here, which dances around this issue, and others.

A slight mistranslation from the original American made me look at that last post for several minutes with an odd look on my face.

You really need to stop this.

Yes, especially since your post constitutes spam, Doc.

no just a science fiction fan with a podcast, and just doing it for fun. Trying to bring attention in this post to some things about Star Trek that i can bring to the table. If i was trying to turn a dime that would be different, i am not however. If you are hating...then hate away.

Shameless self-promotion is still spam, whether it benefits you monetarily or not.

*blank look* I don't think I understand what you mean. I can't think of any meaning of the words spanish, chick, and sucking that would lead to any combination of the words hair and widow.

Somwhere, there is enough letters to spell out Frn'ech, Nympho and Getting-Nose-Wet...

What is wrong with you?

Posted by doc (Member # 2031) on :

does it honestly do harm bro. (are you going to actually say something or just quote someone else). On the William Shatner subject....(four periods should do it before i type again)I grew up with Captain Kirk as my hero, i would love for him to be in the next movie(i think however, that is not going to happen at this time). If you asked me if your favorite hero could be put in a movie/tv. show that he originated in, i would say no problem. The garbage about it will ruin the story etc. is just that, take it out, don't type it. William Shatner is Captain Kirk and Captain Kirk is William Shatner(as a podcast named "Make it So" has stated.)I think the right thing to do was to invite him, and that might have happened and agents jumped in the way, who is to say. Finally, i am looking forward to the movie...Shatner would of been the icing on the cake, of course.

Well, as interesting and impressive as that is, may I ask if you beer a lot during posting??
Not that I oppose beer, mind you, far from it. Only...

Posted by Daniel Butler (Member # 1689) on :

I think Shatner is rather...odd, myself.

Posted by Pensive's Wetness (Member # 1203) on :

I assume you all have seen the 2 latest ST:NV films, correct? Time and Enough? i'm surprised Shatner -HASN'T- tried to get into that stuff...

Nim: Neg sir. I rarely consume beer and stuff (only if someone else is driving of course and i feel it approiate for a Beer & Foods. having seen enough fools gone to mast because of truely retarded decisitions and my own moral stances, i rarely get sauced much.

besides, i think i did enough drinking during my first duty station in Italy to cover the remaining past decade or more, TU [Big Grin] )

No money in any of the ST:NV episodes. No money = no action to get involved with.
