Scroll down. Comments? To me, it looks like the Voyager set, without any durved surfaces. And look - curtains! One wonders how that works in microgravity... Still, it's the first real concept of personal isolation we've seen in a sickbay set.

Ooh! Ooh! Look at me! I'm a broken link!

Not broken. Just apparently nonfunctional with Netscape. Views fine in IE. Stupid webmasters and their IE-only code.

I'm using IE.

Oh, sure, now it works...

Wow, T'Pol's got a nice rack goin' with that sickbay pic. There's just something wrong with the face though. Maybe it's the unisex Vulcan haircut. Or the size of her lips, kinda reminds me of Angelina Jolie.

Hmm... Those displays above the beds remind me of the ones in TOS...

Has somewhat of a 2001 look to it. Which is a good thing.

Some of the details (surgery bed on rails, curtains) are nice, but some (especially in the walls) are too sophisticated even compared to the simplicistic Enterprise-D sickbay. What I don't like is that, like the bridge, this sickbay seems to have the same basic layout as on all later ships. No development here.

In addition, this is not what I would call an attractive photo of T'Pol.

When T'Pol brings her guns to bear, she has two very large pointed ones to fire from.

Going from the absurd to the tantalizing-there is a third photo. This photo shows masks for the Axanar, a species in the second episode. Could these Axanar be the same as the Axanar mentioned in "Whom Gods Destroy"? These latter Axanar were peaceful scientists and diplomats who lived on the fourth planet of the sun Axanar.

Well, all the equipment on the walls above the beds seems to jive with what we have nowadays. Everything has it's own little control. Perhaps by the time TNG rolls around, everything can be controlled from one central panel...?

Since the sickbay seems determined to be the focus of discussion, does anyone else think this sickbay has the appearance of an emergency room at a large city hospital?

Posted by Michael_T (Member # 144) on :

The Sickbay reminds me of the ER at the Kaiser Permanente hospital I've visited. I have to say that the set looks good, although I don't like the fact that it still looks a bit advance for a Pre-TOS series...

*sigh*

Oh no the sickbay looks too modern like something you would find on an amazing ship from the 32nd century Berman is evil and wants to steal my soul blah blah blah.

Technological advances are accelerating faster than we can predict the future state of technology. The guys and gals of the new show are doing their best working with the limitations of the first, yet at the same time showing a future technological world that is plausible for the early 21st century.

Regarding the Axanar, Kirk got a citation, somthing like "the palmleaf of Axanar" for being involved in a mission to Axanar with Garth of Izar. Wasnt this mentioned at his courtmartial?
Is this the same species?

I happen to be a big fan of Angelina Jolie's made-for-blowjob lips. Anyway, that is a quite ugly picture of her, but hell, even Jenna Jameson has bad pictures... wtf am I talking about no she doesn't.

Sickbay looks ok... a bit bright.

Curtains? Nurse, the screens!

Wes1701E: Man, she's ugly...

Sickbay? Pornstars? Blowjob lips and Angelina Jolie? I'm having flashbacks to that movie I saw once called "Doctor Dirty and the Naughty Nurses."

As for Sickbay looking too bright, that's actually a good thing. If the lighting is a close imitation of real sunlight, it's beneficial to human health and recovery. I saw a documentary on the Discovery Channel a couple years ago where a hospital in one of the Scandinavian countries was experimenting in piping in real sunlight through fiber optic cabling to the patients rooms to accelerate the healing process. At the time it looked promising.

On another note, if you're sick or recovering from almost having died, would you rather be in a dark and gloomy place or a bright and annoyingly happy place? If I just had a leg amputated, I'm going to be pretty depressed. Being in a dark and gloomy dungeon-like place would probably be the final push.

The Palm Leaf of the Axanar Peace Mission.

for being involved in a mission to Axanar with Garth of Izar.

That's pure speculation on Okuda's part. In "Whom Gods Destroy," Kirk mentions that Garth was required reading at Starfleet Academy. He also refers to Garth's victory at Axanar. Later, he mentions that he "first visited Axanar as a new-fledged cadet," which might indicate that the Axanar Peace Mission was not at the same time as Garth's battle. Academic, really.

Yes.

Presumably. Note that, in the original series, they never mentioned a species at all; Axanar was merely a planet. The fact that it had inhabitants has long been assumed in fandom, by both FASA and LUG. Now, Enterprise confirms it, though they look totally different.

Yes, Axanar is a conscious reference to TOS and Kirk on the part of Braga. It is intended to be the same planet/species.

Posted by targetemployee (Member # 217) on :

Ryan,
There is an indigenous population on Axanar 4. Capt. Kirk refers to this species in "Whom Gods Destroy" in his conversation with Fleet Capt. Garth.

I, for one, really love the Sickbay set. It's very contemporary and I like how the brightness contrasts with the rest of the ship's interior. The curtains are kewl too. One thing I don't like is the contraption to the far left of the pic. It looks like the Main Biobed and the track in the floor suggests it rolls into the center of the room.
It looks SO damn uncomfortable! The same for the rest of the beds, too! They're basically just slabs.
The should've just stuck with the TNG biobed design with the raised head and giant pillow

Oh, and that is THE worst pic of T'Pol I've seen so far. She looks about ready to rip of someone's head and she must've accidentally put on her uniform with the 5-inch thick chest pads *LOL*

I wonder if she's wearing a modified version of one of Seven's uniforms?

Targetemployee: The planet mentioned in "Whom Gods Destroy", the one Garth tried to annihilate, was Antos IV, not Axanar IV.

We got some information of the Antosians - namely, they were capable fo this cellular metamorphosis that they gave Garth in order to help him recover from some injuries. Garth then perverted the technique into a means of camouflage, presumably some time after trying to blast Antos to bits. It's not known if he went crazy because of the technique, or because of his initial injuries, or if he was born crazy...

We got zippo on Axanarians, though. For all we know, Garth might have been fighting the Klingons, or the Suliban, over an uninhabited planet called Axanar. It still remains a possibility that Garth fought somebody else than the natives of Axanar.

The first doesn't apply to Star Trek. It's a Star Trek show, not a brand spanking new rendition of the future. Follow the guidelines of Star Trek first, or create an entirely new franchise.

Moving us back on topic...

It does look like that black bed on the left side is the main diagnostic bed. It's different from the other beds and the wall it retreats to seem to have more stuff on it than where the other beds meet the walls. It looks like it does slide out into the center of the bay. It also looks like the bed is adjustable to various positions since it has that slotted lawn-recliner-chair look to it.
