I personally don't have much to say about this ep. I'm just curious as to the preview of the next ep. When did this become "Star Trek: Enterprise"?

Posted by Akira (Member # 850) on :

is it that now i missed the preview whats the next episode about?

Posted by Alshrim (Member # 258) on :

Well .. it was ok.
When they said that the second season was going to be sexier - - they weren't kidding !

Don't get me wrong .. Jolene Blalock is one hot lil' woman .. but ... eesh.. I've never seen a vulcan so exploited before...

Now .. as a man... she looked a hot.. yup.. no doubt about it.

As a Trek fan... I think they took it a little far.. but hey.. ratings are ratings right???

Some good humour in the show -- but .. not much plot.

I'm looking forward to the next one ...

UPN's ad department makes the ads, not the Enterprise people, so they probably just put the "Star Trek" in for the hell of it. It could have even been a mistake.

And next week they're doing a rerun of "Shockwave, Part II" for some obscure reason. (There are new episodes coming again after this one rerun -- why they tossed that in there I have no idea.)

The doctor would be good in Kiss.

Roddenberry did the same thing in the sixties and got away unscathed because, hey, it was a perfect time to make love not war.

'Course, back then, a few decon-chamber scenes here and there would've likely prevented Trek from being cancelled altogether.

I love ratings.

Posted by Alshrim (Member # 258) on :

I suppose .. but sheesh ...

I just hope they don't do that too much -- it'd cheapen the show .. (Is cheapen a word?)

I like gratuitous sex just as much as the next guy, but honestly, that decon scene made me want to throw up. So now B&B are trying to pander to the lowest common denominator by showing quasi-lesbian undertones? This "sexier" Star Trek is so ridiculous. This is so NOT what I want to see in Star Trek.

As for "Star Trek: Enterprise," I figured that TPTB had realized that their pitiful PR campaign to cater this show to a non-Star Trek audience was a dismal failure, and that they are now letting everyone know that "This IS Star Trek!" instead of "This is nothing like Star Trek! You're gonna love it!!!"

i on the other hand cheer quasi lesbian undertones. unless theyre butch or something.

The next new episode is about a mining town, I think. Firefly crossover! No. But there's a colony of miners/refiners/extractors coming up, and I think it may be the next new one.

Hey, people have been clamoring for the 'first gay character in Star Trek' for years.

They just ASSUMED they were gonna get a Man Train episode.

A lesbian Vulcan though... kinda makes you wonder how different the Vulcans are during this century.

Posted by Proteus (Member # 212) on :

ok. In this epsidoe. the first decon room scene was like all the others, the other one was a dream.

I had no problems with both. They were not cheap, and they were relivily short. Overall this was a very heart-warming episode.

Why does this board go crazy when there is sexual content in a Trek series? You people always over react and anything sexy is IMMEDIATELY A DESPRATE MOVE FOR MORE RATINGS, OMG!

I'm sorry some of you probably come from a strong christian family and think its wrong to masturbate and having sex before marrage is OH NO KILLING BABY JESUS, but in real life, stuff like this happens, and its rather enjoyable. The decon scenes in this episode contributed to the story AND were a pleasure to watch.

I'm sorry most of you were most likely raped as a child.

The World Series is next week, IIRC. They don't want to put one of their "big eps" (Klingons) up against it and have the ratings tank because of baseball.

No, IIRC, it's the gay community that have been clamoring for the 'first gay character in Star Trek' for years. As if this will somehow make their lives more meaningful.

However, my statement was not meant as gay-bashing. Not in the least. My point was that cheap gratuitous sexual situations strictly for ratings purposes should not be what a science-fiction show, especially Star Trek, should be about today. Never mind what GR did in the '60's. It's pretty lame in comparison. I'm talking the 21st century here. I'm talking about a show that has had three (or at least two) preceeding shows which worked out just fine without all of these ridiculous sexual undertones. And Proteus, if you have some of that weed left that you're smoking, please pass it my way.

Silly gay community... they actually think they are people. When will they learn? [Roll Eyes]

Christ, next they'll want equal rights too.....

We can sit here and argue opinions until we're blue in the face. What person A thinks is great! A-OK person B will think is atrocious. So why can't we just agree to disagree and bury the 'sexiness on Enterprise' debate alongside the 'length of the Defiant' debate, mmm'kay? [Smile]

Wonderful, Ryan. You're the second person to take what I said totally out of context. But you're right, Topher. I'm just getting sick of talking about this any more.

And here I thought I was just being silly. Relax, I knew what you meant.

i didn't see anything wrong with the episode. i can't reemember another episode that has delved into the captains sexual frustrations before, and i found the decon scene to be rather tasteful. it didn't show anything that it shouldn't, and it got across the point that Archer was very attracted to T'Pol. she is the breast science officer ever, and she can send me her lips anytime she wants. when ever i see those tame Kitassians, or whatever they are called, i keep wanting to pilot a Sovereign to their damn planet and Quantumn Torpedo them into the stone age. damn prickly bastards. i never saw Picard set the time on the Enterprise to the capital city of some stupid bunch of asshats. Picard was the breast.

Posted by EdipisReks (Member # 510) on :

i just watched that ceremony at the end, and any people who have a ceremony like that REALLY REALLY REALLY need to be nuked into oblivion. just my breast opinion.

Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :

The Kreetassans though, are one of the better Aliens of the Week. They actually have a different culture than humans, while most other (especially Voyager's) AOTWs were basically humans with bumpy heads.

Posted by EdipisReks (Member # 510) on :

yeah, they do have a very different culture, which is why i want to nuke them so badly [Big Grin]

Um...exactly how long IS the Defiant?

Posted by Dukhat (Member # 341) on :

We're just going to ignore you from now on, 'K?

Well, let's not be so hasty. I mean, this isn't a hypothetically Frequently Asked Question for no reason.

Anyway, Bernd has a good presentation on the issue here.

Essentially, the ship is supposed to be around 170 meters long, officially, but in practice is smaller.

"trying"

Posted by Dukhat (Member # 341) on :

I was just wondering why our esteemed cadet was asking this question in a topic which had absolutely nothing to do with the Defiant. I figured he was just being a smartass.
