Can there be found a complete CGI or sketch of the U.S.S. Zandura (FC) or is there really only the half ship existing?

http://www.neutralzone.de/database/indexfr.htm

Go to Federation -> Starship classes -> Zandura.

Wow, considering its only a bit of chunk visible for barely two seconds it seems to be more detailed than the Norway.
Ugly design, good that the Borg blew it up.

Thanks

The drawing (the second one from the left) was one of the original sketches, before they dropped it. I cannot comment on the other images, but the "piece of chunck = Zandura"-connection is, as far as I know, only speculation. (Speculation that originates on this board, IIRC). Given the fact that the wreck didn't look like any other ship we've seen yet (although some think it's a Steamrunner) but does look similar to the sketch, it makes the Zandura kind of official. Kind of. We don't know if it was really supposed to be a Zandura-chunck. And even if it is, technically only the forward half of the saucer is canon. Maybe that's only the first draft and the final design on which the wreck was based had two saucers and seven nacelles. [Smile]

I doubt that chunk of debris was supposed to conform to any design. It was just a chunk of saucer that had lots of easily identifiable Federation markings. Lifeboat hatches and pennet.

I can't imagine they would've taken the time to make it a part of a complete, unshown ship.

But this is not so different from BOBW. 1,2,3,4,5,6 ship classes never seen before or after just to be seen for a few seconds as wrecks. OK, they are kitbashes (I like the marker nacelles) but these are wasted designs. Except the Freedom and the Proto-Nebula I like them all very much.

we're just saying that we doubt that Paramount would pay a designer to work out the delicate design details of this ships arrangement and warp nacelles, draw up specs, and the have a custom casting of a model based on a small piece of that ships forward hull built at great expense.

More likely, the part was made out of found materials and its shape, while following a basic plan, was made determined on the materials involved.

there is no hidden revelation about this part, it might even be more productive to argue about the Galaxy nacelles at wolf 359. did they come off a shuttle, a new orleans or a nebula, or galaxy?

do you really think they were worried about what ship the orphaned nacelles were off of, or did they just take them out of the ERTL box and put the torch to the corners!?

When I think of my dream job, Star Trek Model Maker has to be number 2. Playboy Ice-chip Technician is number 1. But just think how cool it would be to get paid to melt model parts.

I'm going to speculate here a bit, since I havene't sat down and worked it all out, but when they made the Wolf 359 graveyard, I don't think they had alot of known ship classes to work with. Galaxy, Excelsior, Connie, Oberth, Constellation and Miranda. Right? There was no Nebula, Akira, Steamrunner, etc. yet and they couldn't damage any of the actual models for the known ships, so they almost *had* to create new designs.

"But just think how cool it would be to get paid to melt model parts."

So, in other words, you want to be a Trek modeller in the early '90s. 'Cause you would be doing that anymore, now that it's almost all CGI.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

yes. exactly. I want to live in the 90's.

Hmm, wonder what heppened to Bialik, Lawrence and voy Oy (Mmm. . . Six. . .)? *checks IMDb* Not a lot, apparently.

Oh, why thank you Ultra, you say the nicest things.

Could this be the ship that looks like an Oberth with long nacelles seen in the background?

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

I doubt it since they really would not come up with a new design and not have it used up closely or at all later on in movies or TV episodes. Or even talked about later in any form.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

For that matter, hasn't someone in the know explicitly said that the design never made it off paper?

Here are some past discussions CaptainMaxwell and others may wish to review on this topic:

Also, First Contact Sixteen Ship Designs. Of course, the picture links don't work anymore.

That's not my fault. I've checked ym folder and they are still there. I tell you there's a lot of stuff in there. Some day I have to clean up that mess. For now - here's all the stuff that could be of some interest...

USS Zandura (I wonder why that one's there, too...)
The big storyboard drawing with all the ships...
... and the zip-file mentioned in that thread;
The Seaquest (where have I seen that saucer before?)
The Endeavo(u)r
And the Goodson-"Endeavour". Or whatever...

[Cool]

[Edit:] Either I'm too stupid to use the instant-UBB-buttons, or something's messed up there.

Very nice.

Indeed.

As a modeler, I've gone so far as to scale up the sketches of the Zandura for making a physical model but have yet to get to it: I'm building the Goddard sketch design right now though.

The debris chunk does not match the Zandura hull detail (unless we're seeing the ventral side or a part hidden when the ship is joined -it was intended to be a science ship that cold seperate IIRC. It probably seperated into two equal halves along the horizontal midline- that would've been cool to see onscreen).

Any clue (bsed on the lifeboats) to the ship's length in meters?

Holy crap! There's a Shelley-class starship in there! [Wink]

There aren't any lifeboats on there, actually. But if you take the windows to be about 2m tall, then you get:

L: 158m
H: 35.6m
W: 69.6m

3m tall windows:

L: 237m
H: 53.4m
W: 104.4m

Roughly.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

158 m long seems really really tiny.
Consider that half that length is just the nacelles and you get something as small as an Oberth.
At most.

Your second scale works far better.
The height seems pretty short though based on the sketch.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Well, like I said, roughly. I don't really know what I'm doing here. [Smile]

You just know someone will quote you at a later date.

I've got a teeney-weeney model of the Zandura that a modeler named Garry Perry sent me and I'll likely use it as refrence.
The model's about as long as two quarters set side by side.

"Bialik"

She is some sort of neurosurgeon now, I hear, no fooling.

If I had any idea what you were referring to, I'd nod and say "Wow. A neurosurgeon? Crazy."

Yes, but did I ever meet her or converse i topics she was involved in?

Because, as we all know, people I've never met dont actually exist.

Yet.

Now I'm starting to wonder if I exsist...

lee, stop talking to yourself: it's just a plea for attention anyway.

a joke.

You sure? Sounded a bit, well, personal, if you know what I mean. And a bit weird. After all, it's well known I post here expecting to be totally ignored. 8)

It was a post refering to your comment about hor Boh did not really exist- thus you were talking to yourself.

The "cry for attention thing" was just a gag-
Although I might ignore you later if it makes you feel better. [Wink]

It's odd...normally I only have to explain jokes to Andrew.

Oh, yes, the question about the Oberth-looking ship. Didn't anybody answer? Far as I know the only Oberth-alike was in fact an Oberth.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Christ Lee, even I got that one.

You are getting slow in your older age.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Liam got one of my jokes!!!

....After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter....

"older age"

Are you saying that you're old, Liam?

Posted by Futurama Guy (Member # 968) on :

I'd say so.

Look at how young all our recent newbies are.

No. I'm saying that Lee has gone past "old age" into "older age".

Fool.
