I've had a starship design and name that I've been working on for over a year. Well working on constantly making modifications and so forth with the basic design staying the same.

Here's the final sketch:

Then I sent it off to a 3D artist.
First CGI
Second CGI Much more detail, but still needs much more work.
Third CGI With revisions made.
Fourth CGI Different view of saucer
Fifth CGI 99% perfect saucer, just forgot the to color in the aft transporter emitters. Also first pass at side view.
Sixth CGI A bit of detail added to engineering hull.

The current CGI. Still lacks the weapons pod and phaser strips on the nacelle pylons. The shape of the nacelles themself are a bit frelled, but I think he can fix it. They will also need to be a bit higher up.

Size wise, I wanted something close to scale with the Nebula or Galaxy-class. Everyone likes these tiny fast ships, I like the huge majestic ships myself. Although my ship looks a little closer to the Ambassador-class in terms of scale.

I have a 2-tier bridge layout I need to sketch and the Pioneer's Class 1 shuttle. I also like the blueish-white impulse engines seen on NX-Enterprise and the Prometheus-class.

It's meant to be a 25-th century ship with a new registry prefix system. I like how the Navy has prefixes for specific ships, CVN for carriers, DD for destroyers, etc. NXR stands for Federation Explorer and Research vessel.

Excellent work, Hobbes. This design strikes me as a blending of several Sovereign class and Intrepid class elements. The effect is a very nice looking starship. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Pioneer Plaque

The stardate is a bit low, that's because I came up with my own system. I based it on a standard Federation year being 400 days. The first 3 numbers are the year day, second 2 numbers the year. 113th day of 2401.

The rest is pretty standard...

More renders....

Ninth CGI

The dark panels at the head of the bridge are holoprojectors used for holographic communications. You know how the stars zoom by at warp, well these panels would make a holographic projection of the stars heading towards. A high-tech 3D movie, without the funny glasses. The light lines are carpet pattern.

The stairs ... this is a two level bridge, the stairs are steep like on current Navy vessels. On the second level is the captain's office, like Sisko's, and various science stations along the wall. I'll have a sketch soon.

You may of noticed no ops stations. I've merged ops and communications into Systems. Which basically monitor the overall status of everything.

And of course the circles at the sides towards the back are turbolifts.

Excellent Work! I really like. You seem to have a lot of talent. One thing about the Bridge, I accualy like how the 'Pit' is more of a broad, rounded of triange as opposed to a 360 circle. I don't know, just something about it, maybe cause it sort of draws tou to the viewscreen cause of the way it's pointed. Anyway, Good Work.

Very nice, Hobbes! I definetely like it as a blend between the Sovereign and Intrepid.

A couple things: In the last CGI posted, it seems the nacelles are quite short, much shorter than the previous drawings.

And it seems the two most important stations (Systems I and System II) on the bridge are the farthest back and quite a ways away from everything else. Maybe they should be closer to the captain?

Anyway, excellent work!

I like the shorter-John Eaves style nacelles seen in his sketches for Insurrection http://thefsd.tripod.com/sttm/insurrection.html

I updated the CGI pic posted, the bridge section is much smaller to make the saucer look bigger.

Re: Sys1&2... perhaps, but I wanted an alcove like station seen on Voyager's Ops and Tac, but I couldn't fit it in closer to the captain. That and I wanted it to be it's own section of the bridge.

Very nice, Hobbes. I like that bridge design. It's very simple, yet it has a very visually appealing scope. The latest render of the ship is extremely beautiful. I really like the hard, sharp look of the bussard ramscoops. There are a lot of interesting shapes on that ship. I love those pentagon escape pods. That is so cool. Excellent work!

Hot damn, I like that bridge! It's a little deep, though.. the CO might have to use intercom to relay orders to some of those stations, as he does not have direct LOS with some of them...

I hate you... I hate you... I hate you. Those are absolutly awesome drawings and I have no where near the artistic ability to do that kind of work no matter how much I want to. Again great work.

Did you do that CG hobbes?!

Great looking ship! Love your bridge to. One minor nit pic though, your captain's chair seems to far away from the other stations IMHO. Makes the captain seem isolated and alone. Just my $0.02

Hmmm...where have I seen this ship before

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

Hmm, "Captain is isolated" seems to be the only complaint. There are intercoms to each station. However, I also did this so the captain moves about on the bridge, not just spending all his time sitting in his chair.

I suppose I could try to redesign the bridge a little. But, as you can see on the CGI the bridge is a bigger than most.

I wanted to go for a more larger operations center rather than the standard bridge look.

Wow, Hobbes. That is great. Solid-looking. What program was the CG done in? Are you working on an MSD?

My turn.

About a year ago, I drew this as a preliminary concept sketch for Jeff's Tokyo series. It was just a quicky.

A few weeks later, I refined it a bit; it's the one on top. I added integral impulse decks in the rear hull cutouts & outrigger single-tube torpedo pods. I also did a quick sketch of the underside contours of the secondary hull. I also did an "older look" design (the one on bottom) using some of the elements from the refined design & my Odessa-class design.

About a week ago, I did a more fleshed-out ship design--both dorsal & ventral. The secondary hull is round, or at least no less than an 85-degree ellipse in cross-section; It "bleeds" up into the near-top of the arrowhead; see the aft of my Richmond-class design for an idea of it.

I was just bored, yo.

The second level. A bit rough, but otherwise not bad.

You can see how the second tier overlooks the first. I also added a XO and VIP chair next to the CO chair so the captain isn't so isolated anymore.

As far as the captain's office goes, it's based off Sisko's. It serves as both ready room and briefing room in one. Even added a little model of Pioneer off on the side.

Nice!

(For both the ship & bridge) ...

I really like what you've doen witht he bridge. The whole "ops center" idea gives the ship a neat feeling to it. The nacelle pylons attaching to the front of the ship is also something I like alot. I have an unreleased design myself that has the same mounting of the nacelles. The cgi work is good too. Are you planning on making a MSD?

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

Not yet. I'm working on the Engineering section.

Posted by The Antagonist (Member # 484) on :

Ah, cool! An engineering layout would be just as good.

Final sketch of Main Engineering, Tier 1.

Like the Enterprise-D the entrances are at the sides instead of in the center like Voyager. With a large ship directory in the same place as the Ent-D's (centered on the wall below 'USS Pioneer').

Where's the potties? No, seriously though. Nice stuff, Hobbes.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

Tier 2 ... rough, otherwise good.

You can see how parts of it look down to tier 1. Private conference offices at the sides.. for who ever would be working on a project and needs a quieter work area. I also modified the master situation "pool table" on tier 1.

Anyone with MSD making skills, please feel free to do me a huge favor... I have no clue how to do one.

I've tried to make the outline similar to Voyager's with the nacelle deattached from the main hull. Also I left out the weapon's pod. I'm still trying to nail down the shape of it.

Update: Added the other impulse engine, the saucer nav deflector, modified the bridge (just a bit) and detailed main engineering.

The vector drawing here is made by Bernd based of my original sketch. Yes, it's based off a car, try guess which and you get a gold star.
