Here's a sneek preview for a set of new and improved schematics for the Concordance Antares design and my subsequent refit.

Those not already familiar with these ships should take a goosey here.

P.S. Masao: I hope you're happy now, my ship looks all dark and murky. [Wink]

Simply amazing. Beautiful as ever. I'm really liking the refit. [Smile]

BTW, when are you going to finally settle on a logo for yourself? [Wink]

Pretty close...

[Eek!] Wow.

I wish I was that good with vector art. Oddly enough, I'm currently trying to blueprint the same design for a fan group I'm involved with, but I'm pretty useless with Paint Shop Pro's vectors and can't afford Illustrator.
Took a look at the weblink and the design used there is similar to what I had in mind, with minor differences... amazing how great minds think alike, eh?
The one thing I really love is the pseudo-3D look you've achieved with shading and gradients. VERY impressive!

It's a beautiful drawing and all, but the one thing about the design that has always irked me is the engineering pod slung underneath. It just sticks out like a sore thumb.

Variety be the spice of life. [Wink]

Practice, learn and repeat.

The hard part is spending 2 months drawing an acurate vector of the aztec pattern, after that anything can seam easy.

Unless you want to start paying me for my time I'll work as slow or as fast as I feel like working. [Razz]

That's the plan! [Big Grin]

Awesome work, Reverend. I can not wait to see your final product. I have always loved your Antares Class Starship. I have been following your design trends in the vessel for some time. Keep up the great work. [Big Grin]

Monkey, why don't you just back off. Reverend can take as long as he wants. Why don't you try your hand at designing the Constitution? [Confused]

Really, really love the Excelsior-style yet not kitbashed look. Perhaps something similar could be done to the Raging Queen and the unnamed three-naceller...

So what's the deal with the TOS version impulse engines? Are they on the pylons, like in the movie era version? Or on the saucer aft rim? Or below the shuttlebay? If not the latter, what is the doorlike thing below the bay? I missed all the discussion on the design back when it was finalized...

Looks to me like you got it right second guess - they appear to be on the aft saucer rim.

Hmm, I don't think a 10 foot barge pole would be long enough...

You were right the second time, but their elevation is a little awkward because of where the pylons are.
This is half the reason why I moved them on the refit...the other half of the reason was that the ship looked horrible with two impulse deflector crystals on the saucer.

Door like thing? you mean this?

If you added just a few degrees of anhedral (or is it dihedral?) to the nacelle supports, you'd clear the impulse thrusters rearward as well as the bussards forward. Or else put the impulse thrusters at the very end of the secondary hull (the shuttle bay's below, right?)

Dihedral. Think of the F-4 Phantom II. The wintips are di, the tailerons are an.

Have I mentioned that I love this ship? Cause I love this ship. This is probably the best fan design I've seen.

Posted by Wraith (Member # 779) on :

Yeah, me to.

Incidentally I think the third version down on your prposals for a refit side view on the ASDB site is the best.

Ok I'll spoil the surprise and show you what I had planned for the Redux.
Antares: Aft

I didn't want to angle the pylons partly because it's a little too much of a departure from the original sketch that I'd care to make, partly because the flat one-piece pylon is one of my favourite aspects of this design and finally and I think most importantly I didn't want to draw any further design comparisons with NX-01.

Same here, although there are days when I wish it wouldn't be so stubborn and finish itself. [Wink]
I only wish it was really my design at all.

I've given up taking advice on that side view, I gotten such a hugely variety of preference but little justification.
I have a few fresh ideas concerning this and I should have it cracked when I come to do the plans proper.

At last! A sideview that I'm actually happy with!

Still a WIP, but only a few structural features left to do.

It'll probably be a while before I get back to doing the side view now that it's "frozen" so I'll leave a challenge for those artists who enjoy drawing up bridge plans.
Antares-II Bridge Module

See if you can design a bridge that can fit inside that.

Also a brief update on the Antares Redux; I've started work on the ventral view (something of a first for me), the nacelles still need to be sorted out properly but almost everything else is more or less done.

Wow. What can I still say? That's perfect.

Unbelievable! Great job!

I love how you used gradients to give it a pseudo-3D effect (has someone else said that? if so, didn't intend to plagerize).

I thought I had to do starships in 3D to get them to look halfway descent. You have restored my faith in 2D and inspired me to perfect my design ability in vector applications.

BRAVO!

Truly Awesome work Reverend. [Big Grin]

I believe that I am speechless...

really great job, i love that design [Smile]

one nitpick: airlocks on shuttles are male and on ships they are female. your bridge airlock is male [Wink]
