Just because someone has a free email account automatically makes them a potential toublemaker? What makes the difference that a person with an email program like Eudora is more likely to behave themselves than someone with Yahoo? I don't believe basing a person off their email account is fair, especially to those who might not be able to have anything else. My personal opinion is if you were to lift the ban SolarFlare would get more people who would have much to contribute to fanart and ideas and opinions for the forums. I know a guy who does a lot of great starship CGI artwork who was interested in becoming a member but was upset that he couldn't because he has a free email account. You may feel that this rule will keep a lot of troublemakers out, which I'm sure it does, but it also keeps out a lot of good people. Either way you'll troublemakers with or without the free email rule.

Actually the free-email ban is meant to keep troublemakers from constantly coming back by registering with a new address each time.

I am gonna weigh in. I use a free email address on this site. Am glad that cc did allow me to access with a free email cause my account email never works My point is consider each case.
Not all may be bad. And besides, isn't this place expanding?? New members should be welcome.

There are two incidents in question in which prompted CC to add this restriction in which I totally agree with. I will not quote the first. The second was when several posters came in with e-mail addys from anti-social.com, which is a very racist site. They came in, insulting the forum folk, and I bet that CC had a bit of a difficult time getting rid of them.
To make a long story short, a troublemaker can get in with a freemail account, cause trouble, get booted, then get a new freemail account, and come back to harass us again. Sure, we can IP ban them, but there are some people who can get around an IP ban to harrass us again.
May I make a suggestion to CC though? Are the Reply to Thread notifications sent to the Primary mail? Perhaps it could be modified so that it could be sent to the Secondary Addy (which would be your hotmail, yahoo, etc).

Actually, I don't think the people at anti-social.com are racist. It just seems that they like to talk as offensively as possible.

Heres a funny little story that really has nothing to do with free email, but an old HS friend of mine asked me to send him all the porn he had downloaded onto my computer when we shared an apartment.. Well needless to say I found it and discovered it taking up quite a bit of room, so I sent it all to him, unzipped, in about nine seperate emails... He has a WebTV account BTW... Anyway I get the last six back saying his account had overloaded... So anyway I have not heard from him in over a month now... I ought to call him and tell him why his WebTV thing isn't working anymore, but I'm just too damn lazy...
Moral of the story: Don't be a lazy bum, by a real computer and download the damn porn yourself. *lol*
