Whoa...just for clarification.
From Tahna's comment about a lot of dates.....erm, are DT and JeffK the same people?

No. He meant Jeff has way too much time because he's reading threads from over a year ago.

I'm not DT. I don't even know who DT was, except he liked to fight with Omega, it would seem.

I'm a history major, so I thought I'd answer that question. Or at least try and clarify it.

Got all excited when I saw Baloo and Monty's names, then saw the date.

DT was a member from way back. He was going to school here in the USA. He was very intelligent, but well, he was kinda out there in some of his beliefs. I liked haveing him around, as he was entertaing at worst, but the aguments always escalated, and he would leave. He always came back, but I haven't seen him in some time. Although, it looks like he was here in January.

Last I spoke to DT, he said that he left Flare because it was messing up his Karma, or something like that. 'Course, we all know that Karma can only be portioned out by the Cosmos, so how that figures, I really don't know.

So, lemme see if I have this straight. We DID actually make a major contribution to winning the war (that whole, like, "fighting it by ourselves for two years" thing) but everything we did worked only by accident, so it doesn't actually count, and the Second World War didn't "really" start until 1941. Have I got that right? 8)

The Germans weren't even in the War, remember? They were some trivial nuisance, taken care of by the fledgling UK, and that Cornorda country beside Alaska. Oh, the Russians were involved too, but they were all poor and stuff.

World War II begins anywhere from the end of WWI, to 1931 when the Japanese invaded mainland Asia, to 1938 when Poland was invaded. It all depends to who you talk to.

I prefer the 1931 date myself, simply because it marked Japan's dramatic agression to its neighbors which would not be ended until 1945. Certainly the Versailles Treaty set the foundation for the War in Europe, but I think its a bit far fetched to say WWII began in 1919.

Then there's my favorite theory, the "One Big War" concept which states that the planet was effectively "at war" from 1914 until 1991, with only small ceasefires and playier change-ups.

Didn't Picard or Data say that during TNG at some point? That historians had marked WWII as lasting from 1938 until the end of the Cold War or somesuch?

I recently read an article by a historian who considered WWII to have lasted from the beginning of what we know as WWI to the end of WWII.

HIS WWI? The global conflict which included the Seven Years' War and the French and Indian War, and ended with the American Revolution and the consolidation of the United States. Say, 1754-1794.

I believe Poland was invaded in September 1939, not '38.

Yep, you're right, Sept. 1, 1939.

But Hitler annexed Austria in March of '38, and occupied the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia in September of '38.

Just a bit of a defense to my goof
